Ventia smiled easily, a small relived feeling filled her at Andy words for she had been holding some doubt about whether or not this was such a good idea. She had only officially taken the Alpha role for less than two weeks and was already pushing for major changes when the Packs had been basically stagnant for the better part of two decades. Of course there was going to be doubt in her head despite her mate's overly confidence that she should do whatever she wanted and that joining the two Packs together wasn't such a bad idea as her doubts led her to believe.
Hearing someone else tell her it was a good idea as well made Ventia feel more determined to follow her gut and keep to it and deal with the consequences later. It was why she didn't share Andy's view on the troublemaker warlock that had disrupted the meeting's peace. She knew about magic more now than she did before because of Lue too.
Lucrezia popped into her head, the fiery redhead that towered over her on any given day, especially if she was in her demon's skin. She was still avoiding the lovely succubus something she had to fix if she wanted any forms of interactions with the girl, and being co-owners at her club that was a given. And Ventia still wanted Lue's friendship as well, no matter how angry each parties involved would be.
"I understand your concerns Andy but its a risk I'm prepared to take if things go south. Magic isn't all bad. I have a few magical friends that could also help but I do want to ask Jackson as well. I'm not happy with the guy either with how he treated my Jewel and Nate, but if they can forgive him I think he can be a asset to the Packs that we previously didn't have. I want us to be safe. Our land. Our Pack. I'm sick of even one lone rogue slipping in, because I know how much trouble one person can stir up and the years of consequences people have to deal with because of it. If we want to prevent that we have to start thinking outside the box."
"Thank you for agreeing with me, I really appreciate it. Let's play it by ear first, see how Jackson handles the Jasper and Jade and the vampire's problems. If he doesn't betray them, let's give him a chance and see what he has to say."
-
"True true." Katie said to Thea after Brooklyn's comment, bobbling her head a little as curiosity filled her, where was Baker Boy going to take her best friend? She would totally rate him depending on his choice, and if he didn't score at least above average she wouldn't approve of him. Thea deserved only the best, after her shitty record with shitty men, that much was a given.
"She needs to hurry up and text him again too." Katie urged, bumping her elbow into Thea's side, while adding.
"See where he plans to take you and remember the day after tomorrow."
"I wanna see this mystery man." Harley added, squeezing closer fully intending to watch Thea's phone without shame once she pulled it out again, once again smiling warmly at Rikara to make her feel welcomed as they waited.
"Do you have a picture of him? Tell him to take one and send it." Harley demanded with a smirk on her lips, happy to have something else occupying's her head full of worries, and a boy Thea was interested in? Definitely the juiciest tea Harley would get her hands on this in situation.
She pulled out her own phone when she felt a text coming in and wrote first. I think so? For the most part, it seems. I'll let you know if they say anything important after, thoughhhh there is one big important thing being talked about right now, and that's a boy in Thea's life. Oooohhh I'll def keep you updated on that.
-
Killian rolled his eyes at both his mate and his niece but did as one of them asked and scooted away, pulling the laptop along with him across the table. His eyes were still on Brooklyn though, always greedy to have her in his line of vision especially since she wouldn't stay in the camera's frame for long.
They can't tell, it's our little secret. He shot back at her, letting his voice drop in the way he knew she liked. Come on Kitten, give me a little shake to get through the next few days. I miss you too much for this. He sighed softly, watching her face as she chuckled at him, wishing he could reach out and caress those smiling lips that he liked so much.
He glanced to the pair next to them, keeping his ears open to the light conversation's around him, and went back to looking at the screen. How are you feeling by the way? He asked Brooklyn, his concern for her easily noticeable in her mind, she had looked a little pale when he had left the other day though she told him she was fine.
"I might have to leave and go find out." Davion leaned back, taking up more room now that Archard wasn't next to him by stretching his legs out but he still kept snug to Hallie's side. Enough that her warmth washed away the cold and if she moved a little their bodies would brush up against each other. He didn't like the idea of leaving Hallie at this time however. It wasn't that long ago he wasn't allowed to be next to her much less roam around freely, even if he was still under their watchful eyes, Davion didn't mind.
However he had to go and get information, there was only so much his men could tell him and Davion would feel better once he checked the situation himself. He wanted to bring some bodyguards in, to protect Hallie, but that had been shut down by Jewel the minute he voiced it. No matter, they still were outside the Estate's property, doing their jobs.
"Am I allowed to leave? More importantly, would I be allowed back in?" He asked her, leaning into her space pressing into her shoulder feeling her warmth and softness sink into his hard body while he whispered into her ear. He was watching her, aware of the glare her uncle was sending him behind her head but couldn't care to move away as long as Hallie herself didn't mind.
She heard Orville's little whine before she heard his footsteps, before she felt his presence sneaking up behind her on quiet feet, Evanna turned and instantly found herself meeting Maddox's eyes. Bright eyes that drew her in each and every time. She felt warmth fill her belly much faster than the earlier liquor had done and hoped it didn't show on her face.
Gosh she hoped nothing showed on her face, having almost cried and swallowed down the sudden lump in her throat. "I'm okay, I'm almost done. But you can help me bring them over. Did you want anything? Did Juliette? I didn't hear." She closed the top to the bottle after she poured the glasses and placed it back on the rack before turning around again towards the fridge. With her back to Maddox she quickly wiped at her face satisfied there was no liquid on there and opened the fridge to get a couple waters.

Oh, stop you pervert, Brooklyn admonished, tossing a narrow-eyed look over her shoulder at the computer. She did notice that she took the computer over there for himself and that he lowered his voice. It was as if he was right here beside her, not halfway across the world. At that moment she missed him. And wanted him, needed to feel his presence beside her. Maybe she could face time him later, in that dark red lingerie set he got her. Only he could find her something that fit her. (He definitely didn't get it from Victoria's Secret - her full bust and waist weren't what they catered to.)
Correction, only he could care for her the way he did. The worry in his voice softened her heart all the more. Yes, she had been pale when he left. That day she had been tired - more than usual - and she wasn't sure why. This morning? She woke up sick to her stomach. She had a deep gut feeling that she was pregnant, but didn't want to believe it. That was a flaw Brooklyn was aware of in herself, and a conversation she and the other Constantine Wives had before. She would much rather battle everyone else's scary things. That was evident in how she had signed up for the military and police force. When it came to herself, she'd rather not face it. Pregnancy scared her. Being responsible for raising a child to be a decent person knowing that there was a possibility they could still be a shitty person in the end? She's come across those people in her career. Escorting assholes into her squad car from where they were harassing their sweetheart parents.
She didn't think she could do it.
I'm fine. I promise. And I miss you too. I'll call you when the boys and I get home if you want, she replied, her chest vibrating with a low purr. Something that started when she and Killian established their mate bond and only cemented Killian's nickname for her. She didn't mind ... most of the time. Her mate loved it, which she guessed was a good thing. It definitely helped him sleep at night.
***
"I did text him back!" Thea defended herself, eyebrows raised in the look of innocence. She turned her phone to have Katie look at the blue bubble that told of her response. "See? I told him what I was doing and asked if he was working. I'm not going to double text him, you told me not to. That I would look desperate."
But she was desperate. All she wanted was to text him. He made her feel good. He sent her good morning and good night texts. He had her smiling and laughing. Baker Boy was slowly becoming her favorite thing in the world right now. Funny how she could think that when her mate tried hard to be the same thing -
No. He left her for Selena in the end. If he tried he didn't do a very good job.
For a few moments Thea battled with her anger, jaw clenching so hard she felt her teeth groan. Harley's voice had her snapping out of it to chuckle, even if there was a bit of force behind it. "So not doing that. I can pull up his socials though. Here -" she exited out of the messages to pull up one and tap on his profile. He had a heartbreaker's smile on, lighting up his blue eyes. The bakery hat he had on hid most of his near-white hair, but tufts poked out periodically. "When he texts back I'll let you guys know."
By the time Thea got to open the text from her youngest sister Harley had already spilled the beans. "You didn't!" Her arm shot out, hand pushing lightly on Harley's forearm. "Ugh, she's going to be upset I didn't tell her first thing."
***
Hallie's phone buzzed with a response almost as soon as she sent it, but it didn't have her attention right now. Instead, Davion held it, her body gravitating toward his like it always did. There definitely wasn't much wiggle room, even though her uncle gave her space on the other side. She felt like she should move. Yet his pull kept her rooted to her spot. "Do you really have to?" she couldn't help to ask, heart flipping in place at his response.
She hated the effect he had on her, wishing that she could hold him at arms' length without them getting tired. He was still a stranger, no matter if he was getting familiar by the day. Hallie's bubble was nonexistent when he was around, and so it seemed her self-respect. Thankfully he wasn't forcing anything on her. She didn't think that anyone here would stand for that, but still at least he was a gentleman about everything. "I'm sure if you asked Mom," she murmured back, wincing internally. Her mom was still so angry about that night. "I heard our cousin Felicity say that coming back in you would have to have her and Dad's permission. How long will you be gone?"
Maddox couldn't help but to walk to her, like her presence hypnotized him. Orville beat him to her, wagging his nub of a tail with much enthusiasm and pressing his nose against her hip to smell her. Maddox kept his eyes on hers, however, and noticed the glassy quality her eyes had. His chest squeezed tight in worry, and he frowned. "I don't want anything -" but you he wanted to add - "and if Juliette wanted something she didn't say. Highly doubt it though. She's a bit of a sourpuss." His steps halted shortly after she turned, unsure of what to do next.
"I plan on having some tea after I'm released from my duties for the night," Maddox continued, almost sheepishly. "Would you care to have a cup with me?" He walked forward a little bit more, steps hesitant this time until he came to her side. Orville whined once more before stepping back, having no need for a command to sit expectantly. Maddox reached out with his bare hands, waiting for her to fill them. Of course he would help her with anything she needed. Evanna had his heart.

You know I always do, Killian said low and sweet in their bond and was already looking forward to Brook's call later. I still don't like the idea of you going back alone. He sighed, if this dragged any longer he would make Brooklyn stay there with Jewel or with Avery, he was sure either of them would be willing and they had the extra rooms. Seeing as how this was only the beginning, that was exactly what he wanted and Killian was slowly but surely trying to be subtle with convincing his mate to stay on the Pack's Territory, at least when he was away.
~
Katie pursed her lips, looking at the phone and the delivered under Thea's latest message. "Well at least he didn't see it yet, I would have thought poorly of him if he was ignoring you. Aww look at him, triple texting you. How cute." She giggled, reading the bit that she could see quickly before Thea switched apps. She was happy that Luc genuinely seemed interested in Thea or else she would have told him off, be it as it was, Katie may have been making some trips to Ben's Bakery more than she did before just to grill Luc that he better be nice or else she'll take Thea away.
Clara would chuckle at her when she did that, but Luc always seemed modest when he swore to her that he liked Thea and didn't want to mess anything up. Satisfied she looked at his picture with the other girls and nodded, he was pretty cute and once again Katie couldn't help how good they'd look together. Dark and light and all that.
Only then did her mind twist elsewhere to another light haired man but she quickly shooed the image away and said: "You're right, let's just wait for his response and-" she chuckled "I think you'll live."
Harley smiled as well, "You should definitely send her that pic and Hallie will forgive you in a instant. I approve of him."
"So what time should we all meet?"
~
"It's a gamble to be honest." Davion told her softly, watching her face as he spoke.
"But your father is coming back after this weekend and he'll be staying for the next entire week right? I'll try to be back before that Friday so I can go with you to the visit." Even the thought of leaving her side felt wrong to Davion, like he would lose her entirely if he did, yet it was something that needed to be done. The more information at his fingertips the better, though he would have to be careful not to fall into any traps his parent's no doubt had in store for him.
He wouldn't let Hallie and her family be alone.
"Should something happen and I'm not back, just continue as plan and I'll meet you there. I promise." He smiled at her, his gold eyes warming with red undertones similar to a gentle flame.
~
In the kitchen Evanna nodded on auto and closed the refrigerator door, it was only a second later when she turned and finally made herself look up at Maddox's face that she registered what he had just said. She blinked as she stared into his eyes and then down at his open hands. The urge to grab those hands were strong, hugging him was a even stronger urge, yet Evanna held herself back. Had she really been so open in touching him the other years? Now all Evanna could feel was shyness which was the comepete opposite of her character.
"Tea?" She repeated as if she hadn't heard him and felt her cheeks warming, her heartbeat relaxing, "I would love that." She smiled finally, feeling both relieved and foolish as she tucked the water bottles under one arm and reached for the other drinks to place one by one into Maddox's hands, her fingers surely touching his as they passed, and with no startling tingle that should have been there. He wasn't her mate. Once again it was made clear. Evanna swallowed, picking up her own glass and nodding at Maddox to go.
Following him back to the others, Evanna found herself staring at his back, the back of his head, the back of his nape, the curve to his ear and the sharp line of his jaw. She bit her lip, so what if he wasn't her mate, Evanna didn't care. Yes it would have been nice to have, to feel that sensation, of tingles erupting to life...if Evanna was honest she had always looked forward to it since she was a little girl, it had always sounded romantic to her, her true love made just for her and those tingles would let her know just who it was.
Yes, she had always liked the idea of it. Until she met Maddox. Until the first time where she teasingly but determinedly laid her hand on Maddox's bare arm because she was absolutely sure she would feel those tingles with her. And then there had been nothing. And her heart had sunk. Try as she might to not develop feelings after that, since it wasn't meant to be, it hadn't gone that way at all. No she had only craved and liked Maddox more. And the thought of never being good enough for him, since she wasn't his fated one either, began to haunt her like a bad dream.
"Text me when you're done." She told him before they entered the other room, because mate or not, Evanna was in love with Maddox and she wouldn't go down without a fight. She's seen true love overcome mate and tingles logic for all her life, and knowing how happy her uncle and aunt were still, was enough hope to keep Evanna going despite her negative thinking.
~
Lucifer had been enjoying his time outside waiting for Thea to text him back when something became annoyingly clear. The earth shook every two seconds like a great earthquake was about to erupt into life. It wasn't anything new, the ground had been shaking for a couple weeks now and Lucifer was up in the human world way more than down here to really care whether or not what his two righthand men were fighting about now.
Still the echo of a distant blow after blow along with the earth shaking was fucking disturbing his peaceful thoughts about Thea. A black void surrounded him until he was stepping out onto the lower realm where a fighting tournament was always taking place. Demonfolk constantly battling each other, vying for the title of who was strongest.
He watched disinterested as his ears were hit with sounds, as if he were in the belly of a concert, Lucifer could hear everything and nothing at all, and with the vibrating of the ground he didn't feel his phone vibrate in his pant's pocket. Instead, his irritation began to rise as two devils ping-ponged back and forth across the mountain range creating havoc in their wake.
His jaw twitched.
Lucifer strolled forward.

If Killian were with her, Brooklyn would have sent him a don't test me look. Instead, she rolled her eyes, knowing what he was trying to do. The problem was, she was very much like an old man. One who had been alone for a very long time and was used to it. She lived alone - and was content with that - ever since she enlisted in the military. The cop was confident in her abilities to defend herself and anyone close to her should the need arise. She had to resist the urge to tell Killian that, and that she didn't need to worry about vampires and crazy ex-girlfriends until he came into her life.
Besides, she had been a "rogue" all her life. When she was turned, she didn't have the help of other shifters or werewolves or anything like that. She had to navigate her new life with the limited help of Sasha and Royce, who had unique abilities that they never had help with either. Because of that, her mother believed that she had a demon living inside her. As much as she loved her newfound family and her kinship with the other Constantine mates, she was still on the fence about pack life.
I have work in the morning, babe, Brooklyn said instead, tone thick with patience. And I don't have the boys' food with me. She sure as hell wasn't driving the long ass commute to her job.
*
"Ugh, I probably should," Thea replied to Harley, resisting the urge to smile when Kate made the mention of Luc's triple texts. The smile broke through her defenses anyway when Harley said she approved. Not that she needed it, but her family did not hold back on their distaste for Kenneth - not when Thea raged about him every time he took Selena's side of things or especially now when he went with her on some bullshit excursion that looked like they had no intentions coming back from.
Breathe, Thea, she warned herself. Not a good idea to go apeshit now. Later she would probably demolish a training dummy. Right now she refused to feel like a stalker as she saved Luc's profile picture to her phone to send it in the group chat. "I don't know, how early are we talking?"
"Can I come as well?" Rikara asked genuinely, brown eyes wide with a desire to connect with the women. "I would like to experience this world through different points of view."
*
What Davion saw in her face was her best attempt at being understanding in his answer.
Of course, he wouldn't be sure. She wasn't too positive about all it took to be the next reigning monarch of a whole underground kingdom. So maybe there were other things that he needed to do and all that jazz. But there were undercurrents of disappointment and worry. Even if he was trying to be reassuring that he would be by her side in the end, she felt like stomping her foot childishly. She didn't want him to leave her at all.
"Okay," she said instead, returning his smile if a bit half-heartedly. Then she forced herself to stand from the table and stretch, turning her head and closing her eyes but still seeing the reds and golds that played in his irises. With a satisfying pop running down her back and at her elbows she yawned. It took about thirty seconds in total, but the stretch left her with a sense of "can do". This whole vampire business left her feeling helpless. But her uncle and aunt's wedding was around the corner. Tasked with the bridal look, she wasn't a useless paperweight that needed to be watched. She was actually needed.
"I'm going to my bedroom if anyone needs me. Harley said the meeting was over."
***
"Of course," Maddox murmured, sending her a smile. He knew that she had been looking at him - he felt her gaze on him like the sun shining down on him on a cloudless summer day. The knight knew that his true title had been revealed the night of the vampire raid, and he had hoped that no one took his silence of it to heart. Especially not his Bonny, who shared everything with him whether she was sober or drunk. In her assessment of him, he hoped she saw that he was still Maddox underneath this armor.
On the way out of the kitchen Hallie passed by the pair, her phone in her hand and her head in her phone. At the last second she looked up, eyes wide in shock. At first, she looked at Maddox, with the drinks in his hand, and slid the water out that was meant for her. "Thank you," she chirped before looking behind him to Eva, face changing back into shock with a touch of giddiness. "Eva. You're never gonna fucking guess."
Maddox separated from the two with a chuckle, offering the remaining water bottle to Juliette as he took her spot beside her.
"No, thank you," she said stoically, before casting a glance at the other two women in the room, then to Orville who kept to Evanna's side. "Your companion seems to have forgotten that his place is with you."
Maddox's lips thinned, showing his distaste for the passive aggressive comment. Still he refused to call the doberman to him. He was not going to be cowed by someone who was supposed to be his partner until further notice, no matter if her rank was higher than his. "We are under no immediate threat. Orville is free to do as he wishes until I need him."
Juliette's only response was to hum, undeterred by his sharp tone.

Killian let out a little sigh at the end of her sentence, his way of giving in even though the urge to nag at her-yes nag-was at the tip of his tongue and taking all of his restraint to hold back from giving her a list of reasons of why she should stay with his brother. Still, Killian knew it would be useless for as stubborn as he was, he believed his mate could be even worse when she wanted to. And with everything going on, Killian didn't want to add any more stress onto his lovely wife-to-be shoulders than he had to.
He would have to be content with their facetime call later where he'd insist she'd keep it on throughout the night so he could keep an eye on her, and the few security cameras he had set up right after the kidnapping incident. Killian could barely sleep without Brooklyn anyway, though the facetime calls did at least give him an hour or two of sleep towards the end. Watching her sleeping face always put him in a docile state.
Still, Killian couldn't stop himself from saying: Maybe you should start using those vacation days. And then looked towards the hallway for his drink which was taking a little too long for his liking to make it to his hands.
-
Davion paused, watching her stretch the lingering image of that smile replaying in his mind as she got ready to leave him. He turned on the seat, following her with his body and his eyes as she began to walk away. Davion wanted to grab her wrist, to stop her from leaving, it was still early he still wanted to be in her company, to look at her, to listen to her voice, to steal more touches, to feel more of her warmth...yet he stayed sitting and watched as Hallie paused in the hallway.
His ears tuned in to her voice, while his eyes sank into her backside into the side profile of her face as she chatted briefly with her family member. He was still brought into the vault at the end of the day, where he'd wait out the feel hours with a thin line of patience until he was let out again more times than not by Hallie herself. It was always worth the wait to see her the following morning, yet he was growing greedy and the urge to start breaking some ground rules in this house was beginning to take hold of him.
-
"What about at ten?" Kate said and then grinned at Rikara, it wasn't only the fact that Rikara looked identical to Thea that made Katie want to reach out and demand friendship as well with her too, though it was helping the case, Rikara gave Kate the same feeling that Clara gave her. Power out of her reach, there was something different, something more, Katie was always attracted to the strong, her curiosity had gotten her into many pools of trouble.
"You should definitely come, I'll pick everyone up. Lynn is closest to me, so I'll pick you up first, we'll grab Thea and Harley, and then we'll come to pick you up Rikara. I'm sure you'll be either here or at the apartments anyway, so it all works out. I'm quite the fast driver too, so we'll be good on time."
-
"Oh, this sounds juicy." Evanna said instantly, feeling better now than in the last hour since she had gotten an invite from Maddox for tea, so the smile that came to her face was a genuine one. She leaned her leg into Orville's warmth and then glanced down when Hallie started unlocking her phone. It didn't take her little cousin long to swipe to the group message and click on the most recent picture.
"Oh, he's cute." Evanna was partial to blondes, though she preferred Maddox's sharp features to this man's ones.
"Who is he?" But even as she was saying it, Hallie was already telling her.
"Shut up! Thea?! Wow, shit finally, god damn." Evanna grinned then sobered quickly, "if he is messing with her, I'll fuck him up." She was always fiercely protective of her friends and family, especially the girls, and Thea was no exception. Despite being older than her, Thea had always been one of Evanna's favorites while growing up, and bitching out guys just happened to be one of Evanna's favorite things to do, especially to the jerks who preyed upon girls' feelings.
"Though I hope everything goes good! Where did they even meet? When did they meet? This is pretty juicy." She chuckled glancing at the screen again.
-
Fire and brimstone filled the terrain, what was once mountains now seemed more like a fiery wasteland with the black earth bursting and launching around in fits of eruptions. Low-level even middle-tier demons cheered from a safe distance, along with the smoke and dust in the air Lucifer could smell the liquor, smell the foul stench of bodies that didn't bother to bathe, sweat blood and body odor with the heady hint of sweetness. Some things never changed.
He waved his hand as if shooing a bug and the condensed air around him was slapped away leaving him in a clear bubble of clean air. It stayed that way as if not even the air dared to make him angry. He continued to stroll forward, when the lava began to fill the earth his body began to levitate, walking on invisible stairs he continued his stroll into the intense fight in front of him.
If either of those two idiots who were fighting had noticed him, they would know better and drop their weapons, ceasing this futile fight. Be it as it was, Roland and Diablo were too engrossed in their battle to even spare a glance at their audience or see their King was approaching. Like missiles they collided with each other, erupting violent explosions of powers before coming apart, only to charge and collide again a mere second later. They drew apart once more, before flying through the sky about to collide for the millionth time.
He had been still a ways away but was between the two in the next second, the fire and earth magic threatening to pop his protective bubble but before it had a chance to, gluttony swallowed the two of them and their attacks whole. Gluttony was like a monster more than a skill, it ate endlessly and if not for his control the black grime would have swallowed his two men whole. However, right now it was acting more as a temporary holding cell than the black hole sin it was.
"Roland. Diablo." He glanced at them both, laying suspended in the black goo, their lips tightly closed despite their eyes finally meeting his.
"This again? Didn't I tell you the last time to put a stop to these foolish fights? Didn't I specifically explain that you're giving me headaches?!" He shouted the last bit, condensing the gluttony bubble around them, making the foulness start seeping into their ears and noses.
He sighed, as finally silence fell upon him, cracking his neck he could think clearly now and fished for his phone in his pocket. When he saw the new notification from Thea, his mood instantly lifted and he clicked on it, turning away from the two of them and then sitting down as if he were sitting on the top of a stadium and not in the middle of the sky.
There were hums behind him but after he turned around to give them a sharp look, even those sounds quieted. His conversation with Thea came up and he read her latest message, frowning to see that twenty minutes had passed since she last texted him. He texted her back quickly.
No, not working. Just dealing with some troublemakers. And added a winky face before standing up and climbing down his makeshift stairway. Only when he reached the bottom did he finally let Roland and Diablo go.
Then he texted again, You have my full attention again, do I have yours?

By this point, everyone knew that there was a boy in Thea's life.
They had to have. In the midst of the collective geek-out about Luc, Lynn had peeked her head in to see what all the fuss was about. Not even two minutes later her eyes lit up with a sort of shy excitement. "That's a good thing, right?" she asked for reassurance. "I thought you were asexual."
That got a snort from Thea. When she first met Lynn, she wasn't sure what to make of the anxiety-ridden female. She had been quiet. Some would say standoffish. It wasn't until later that Thea realized why. Being diagnosed with anything was difficult to do for a shifter. And having anxiety was no joke either. Did she have a close relationship with Lynn? No, but Thea definitely didn't push for one either. If she did she'd probably have Jareth's overprotective ass breathing down her neck.
Besides that, she already had a fucked up relationship with one cousin. She didn't want another. "What makes you say that?"
"I dunno," Lynn said after a sheepish pause, shrugging one shoulder. And then when Katie made the mention of picking her up Lynn did a double take. "Pick me up for what?"
"The guy I'm talking to - for a week, might I add. Just a week - wants to take me out on a date and I have nothing to wear. We're having a girls' trip to remedy that."
That was when her phone chimed in its two cents, revealing texts from both Hallie and Luc. It was hard not to be excited about his, but when his name popped up her heart acted like a record player, tripping over itself before picking up speed. She had to force herself to click on Hallie's name first, wondering just how mad her littlest sister was at her for keeping such a secret.
Ok he's a cutie. I didn't know you liked blondeeeeessss tho. Eva wants to know when and where you guys met!!
Thea's eyeroll matched the emoji she sent in the group chat, though was secretly glad Hallie didn't yell at her for leaving out such juicy gossip. Then with a fortifying breath, she hopped to her conversation with Luc. Only to feel her breath rush out of her and a blush plaster on her face.
No, Thea hadn't known then that Luc was flirting with her that day in Ben's Bakery. It had taken Kate, her interpreter, to get her to realize that someone wanted to give her his phone number. She remembered feeling so silly, both for having her best friend metaphorically hold her hand and for thinking she was part of a world in which things like this happened to her. She had to admit, it had all felt so surreal that for the first day, she didn't speak much to Luc. But there was something about him that had her opening up her shell a little bit more each day they spoke. He was so easy to talk to. He got her to talk about her fears, for one. At least some.
But then there were times when she would be reminded he was very much a flirt and that she didn't know quite how to handle it. She was glad she didn't have her read receipts on. Because of course he had her full attention, he had it since day one! But she couldn't tell him that because then it would sound weird but also now this was a perfect opportunity to flirt back but how does one even do it? She's seen Hallie do it with such ease. And her mom and Nathaniel flirt all the time with each other even though they're fully married.
"Jareth said that we didn't have anything pressing tomorrow morning so I can go," Lynn said after speaking with Jareth through their bond. She sent him a reassuring smile his way before turning back to the group, arms crossed casually against her chest. She glanced at Thea, then did a double take at the way her cousin's whole face was red. "Did he text back?"
"Yes, and I don't know what to say."

"Well, what did he say?" Katie asked, no she didn't look over Thea's shoulder to read the latest message-she wasn't that bad. Thea had to at least see it first. Though from the blush growing on Thea's face, yet again because of Baker Boy, Katie knew it was already good.
"Is he flirting with you again?" She laughed lightly, tucking her bangs behind her ears as she finally glanced at Thea's phone when she held it her way, after a long minute.
"Ohh, that's..." Kate grinned at Thea, the blue in her eyes swallowing the black of her pupil as she let out a scoff.
"He's such a flirt. Which is pretty funny considering I've never seen him flirting with anyone like how he's flirting with you. Luc's nice to everyone and all but he seems pretty sweet on you." She teased Thea, wiggling her eyebrows for a second before letting out another laugh.
"What kind of troublemakers? Tell him you're dealing with a troublemaker of your own, aka me. I'm dragging you away tomorrow and not taking no for an answer." She winked, nodding at the phone.
"So you've met this guy?" Harley asked, interested.
"Yup. He's a part-timer in a bakery, sometimes he deals out information for me in exchange for trying out his weirdest concoctions that he calls sweets." Kate rolled her eyes, remembering the carrot and blueberry cupcake he had made both Clara and her try one time.
"Though the weirdest thing, is they always came out kinda good despite the random shit he put in there." She chuckled again, looking at Thea with a hidden smirk seeing her eyes had lit up a fraction at the newest news of Luc.
