Jewel (You win, your year long messages have worked, but do remember I'm now a married woman and have a full time job and am buying a house. I'll come when I can lol) The Guild had been on lock down for a long time now, ever since Lena's powers went awol and so to protect everyone else, everyone who even stepped foot in the Guild lands or asked for their help, Lena had put them on lock down. No communication in or out of the main house and Lena had put Quarantine signs on the drive up towards the first of the three walls and gates and then on the main gate's doors. Lena had allowed the Guild to continue, but out of the Underground and not through the main site. She couldn't be trusted around people. It broke her heart to leave that letter for Thea. *** Dear Thea,I'm sorry to do this and I'm sorry to cut you off from all of us here, but this is the safest thing for you. My magic has gone awol and I've hurt/infected all of those who were here when it 'went off', shall we say, including Kenneth, my mum, Tay and JJ. I infected them all. I'm so sorry. I'll lift the quarantine and extra spells when I've cured them. Let Drogo know too, tell him I'm so sorry and Shade. I need to learn control.SorryLena*** When Lena's magic had gone off, a long time ago now, she was made weak by it and she was so sick that she teetered on the edge of death. To protect her, protect those around and her magic, once the quarantine had been put in place, Lena had been placed into a coma where she could astral project on to a seperate plane, created by the Swamp Witch, who then spent all this time fixing her and help her and helping her to learn control. As Lena didn't know when she would re-awaken and lift her spells, she placed a freezing charm on everyone, kind of like putting them on ice and so they could all pick up in their lives where they left off. It was called the Sleeping Beauty and everyone was frozen in time. So that was where the Guild had been, frozen and unopened. *** "You are ready to go back." The Swamp Witch said to me as Lena finished her final task. "It's been so long, I don't know if I can." "You can." "But people's reactions? The last time I was away for so long...my mate...he left me for another woman, what if that happens again? It'll destroy me, I love Drogo, even if I can't admit it to his face yet." "There will be anger, but you protected everyone and people's loved ones. Hopefully they can see the good you did." The Swamp Witch stroked my cheek affectionatley and kissed my forehead. As if falling backwards off a cliff, Lena fell back into her body. Her muscles ached from lack of use, her body felt heavy and her mind sluggish, but as soon as she opened her eyes, it was like a breath of life and light went rushing through the house. As she breathed in her first proper breath in, she didn't know how long, collectively so did the house and everyone who had been 'asleep' woke up to a new world. The sickness that Lena had infected them with, slipped away and vanished from sight. Phones started ringing again, computers pinged back to life and a call was sent to the Underground Guild that they could come home. This all happened while Lena sat up and started re-using her body. Her stomach growled, her bladder ached with fullness and her back clicked like an arthritic 80 year old as she stood. Flinging open her bedroom curtains, a mound of dust flew in every direction and sunlight blasted through the dirty windows, unwashed due to no one cleaning them and Lena squinted, her eyes not used to the natural light or any light at all. Lena coughed, her throat dry from dis-use and her eyes dry, she rubbed them to create moisture. ' Bathroom and a hot shower' Lena thought and she slowly, cautiously, like she was re-taking her first steps towards Thea again, she limped to the bathroom. *** Kenneth's POV: Kenneth was one of the first people to awaken when Lena did. He had gotten the largest dose of sickness when she broke down. He had been the one to tell everyone what had happened and what was going to happen. He had been the one to tell everyone to go to their beds and wait for the heavy sleep to happen. He had been the one to set up the Underground Guild and he was now the one calling them home. He ached too and he felt weird, like he'd been asleep too long, which he obviously had and sluggish too, but he powered on. He opened up curtains and shutters. He turned on computers and phones. He opened up bedroom doors and called people back to work, as if it were any other day. He cracked his neck and knuckles, starting to feel more alive and he looked through the files that the Underground team brought to him. He was getting back to normal and then one name went through his head like a steam train...' THEA' *** Lupita's POV: It was weird for Lupita to wake up and not knowing what day or year it was. It was weird for her to wake up and feel weak. What felt normal to her was to hear her almost teenage twins banging around as they woke up. She sighed to herself and got up. She reached for her phone and turned it on. The date and time were weird to her, they were in the future, but that was currently her present. It would take her some time to get her head around all this. She had texts and missed calls and a lot of emails. She opened up her messaging app and texted Shade: Quarantine and spells have been lifted. The twins and I are dying to see you again, we've missed you. I love you, Lupi xxx
Lupita closed her phone and got up, she needed a hot shower and the twins needed baths. So, she set to work. *** Lena's POV: Lena dressed, brushed her hair into a plait and sighed as she turned on her phone. She sent a mass text to Thea, Shade and Drogo. The Guild is back online. Quarantine has been lifted and everyone is well again. Please don't be angry at them, be angry at me. I slipped up, but now I have control. Please come home, all of you. Lena xx
Lena then sent a personal text to Drogo. I am so sorry about all that has happened and I promise to make it up to you. I will be a proper mate from now on and be open to our relationship, just please, don't hate me. I don't think I could take it. I'm so sorry that my magic went crazy. I'm better now and ready to try with you, if you'll still have me. I really like you Drogo. Lena xx
Lena went downstairs and the Guild was all bustling around, acting as if no time had moved at all and she smiled. She knew that they were doing this to make her feel better about her slip up. She was very sorry for what had happened and would be eternally in the Guild's debt for all that they had done and taken on. Lena went into her office and lifted up her over-protective spells, leaving the original ones and waited for the storm to arrive and by storm she meant Thea. *** P.S. The reason for my absence for the last year is: - I moved from London to the midlands with my now husband
- Had to try to find a job I liked and was settled in
- Planning my wedding and being on my honeymoon
Jewel has been messaging me and talking to me for a while now and managed to persuade me back on here. I said I could come back this weekend because my husband, who is a Police officer, was not at home and so I had time to myself and didn't have anywhere to go/anything to do. I have been so swamped lately. So sorry for my absence, but a wedding is ridiculously hard to plan when you move halfway up the country and have to find a new job, but now I'm happily married and have more time...hopefully

Thea didn’t think she had cared, really, when Lena kicked her out of the Guild. After all, it was the best thing Selena could do. Thea needed a break from the Guild anyway; seeing her father’s face and hearing Lupita’s snarky comments about her had sent her over the edge more times than she could count. On the plus side, she had been in her siblings lives mare than she could have thought, with the Guild open. She might have missed their first steps and first words. But she was there for their first shifts. She saw them graduate at her alma mater (even though they only spent their year as seniors). When Thea wasn’t busy with Warrior duties for the New Dawn, she was running with Lucian. On top of that, she met some family that she never knew she had. While she was getting tired of them popping up, she was glad that she met Lynn, and really got to know her.
Yet, she did care. She wouldn’t admit this to anybody – shoot, it was hard to admit it to herself – but she missed Kenneth. She missed him with every fiber of her being. She wasn’t much for thinking, always opting for “act now, think later”. They didn’t have a relationship where they confided in each other; as her time away from the Guild grew, the more she wished they had it. Dimitri’s near-death was so terrifying, she had actually cried, and uncharacteristically wished that Kenneth was there to hold her and say in reassurance that her brother would be all right. After the stint with her grandfather and Harley, the Norse god of mischief had appeared and told her all about her lineage – at least, on her mother’s mother’s father’s side. And Jackson was always trying to push to the forefront of her mind. Rikara, as well (the little wretched doppelgänger of hers who thinks she’s all that and a bag of Twinkies because she’s the princess of some far off land or something).
While she didn’t feel as if he’d take too well with THAT bit of info, it would have been better to at least talk to her mate every day; she felt that if they did, she wouldn’t be so obsessed.
Telling Shade and Drogo was difficult at least, and downright awkward at most. Their faces wore the look of shock at first. Then anger. Then despair. Thea had – at first – scoffed at them, rolling her eyes at such things. But, even if it took Thea longer to feel it, she still did.
**
Her name had come through her mind, unexpected. She believed herself to be insane (she didn’t cross it off her list just yet, even when Lena confirmed Kenneth’s voice by sending that message). But one pinch to make sure she was awake later and she dropped off her Warrior-duty papers to Ventia to hightail it to the Guild.
It had taken forever; the heart of the New Dawn was a good distance away from the Guild, which were in the deadlands. While she drove, she was nervous. Her heart beat was quicker than normal. Her hands were sweating like mad. A few more times she pinched herself to make sure that she wasn’t dreaming. Or that Loki had her under some sort of mental dilemma (he hasn’t done it yet, but she wouldn’t be surprised). Her stomach churned, threatening to send her breakfast of eggs and sausage back up across the windshield.
Not only was she nervous. She was angry. A familiar emotion that she held on to like a lifeline. Anger wasn’t weak, like nervousness was. With all that happened to her while Lena was off doing her magic thing, she didn’t feel like her best self while handling it. But with all that she knows now, she can’t afford to be weak.
Drogo, Shade, and Thea comically arrived at the same time, pulling into the designated parking areas they were given. All three opened their doors simultaneously as well. But Shade was the first to rush in, car door still open.
But Thea and Drogo stopped to size each other up, not really liking each other even after all this time.
After a moment, though, they nodded at each other. “Thea.”
“Drogo.”
“It’s good to see you again.”
“I’ll take that lie.” She smirked. A trait that she had definitely gotten from her god-ancestor. “It’s good to see you too.”
He chuckled, then moved on ahead, having the decency to close his door.
Finally, Thea walked in. Her head was held high, and her feet took her in, one in front of the other. It’s been ages since her time in the Arena, but her lessons with Cleo was still ingrained in her. She was a princess, too. A false one, but one nonetheless. She walked like one, and stood like one. She had even perfected the look-down-the-nose bit.
When she was inside, she didn’t stop until she was on the second floor, where the offices and the bedrooms were. One deep breath in, then a sneeze out later, she opened the door to Selena’s office. “Cousin.”

Lena looked up and tried not to gape, by the looks of it Thea had changed a lot and even looked older than Lena, not that she'd ever say that to her face. Lena still looked like she did when she went asleep, long black hair and shiny eyes. Lena stood up and smiled instead. When she saw Thea, her heart jumped and her stomach rolled in fear, but her sense of joy mounted.
She ran around the old oak desk, dusty with un-use and ran into Thea, crushing her arms around her cousin and Lena sobbed. Lena actually sobbed. Lena hadn't cried in years. She hadn't cried when she was raped. She hadn't really cried over Nate. She hadn't cried when she became paralysed or when she got her legs back, but finally seeing her cousin in the flesh and hugging her made Lena cry.
"I'm sorry. I'm so so so sorry, I know you can probably never forgive me, but I am sorry. I was angry and had no control, as you remember from the fire and it all got too much, missing you and you not being around, I just lost it. I did what I had to, to save everyone, but I missed you so much." Lena bawled into Thea's shoulder. Lena hid her face into the crook of Thea's neck and squeezed her cousin to her. "We can start fresh, no treaty needed. I'm not angry at your mother anymore or him. I did a lot of soul searching while I was up there and I watched over you, when I could or was allowed. I just want you back in the Guild, back home with me and us back as a team." Lena said as she pulled back, her hands on Thea's shoulders and stared at her cousin. Lena's eyes were streaming with tears, her cheeks moist and her nose running. Lena sniffled. "Please...don't be mad at me...forgive me..." Lena begged as she wiped her nose on the back of her ratty old jumper she'd thrown on, one Thea had given her for her 16th birthday years ago.
"Did Shade and Drogo come too?" Lena finally hiccuped, looking around for her mate. Her heart leaped and at the same time dropped at the thought he would leave her.

Lupita's POV:
Lupita was blow drying Tay's hair and making it straight when her mate connection buzzed inside her from the close proximity of her mate. Lupita stood up, kissed her daughter's dry hair and smiled as she went over to their home's front door.
Lupita didn't live in the main house, she lived just west of it, in her own house now, since the old one on the pack lands burned down and she lived here with her twins by Shade. William was finishing his last year of his residency to be a doctor and then he would come home, Lupita knew this and so she had had a house built for her son, her daughter in law and grandson.
Lupita ran to her front door and flung it open, welcoming home her mate and the father to her precious twins, when they were being precious that was, most of the time they were the terrible two. She had missed him so much and she couldn't wait to hug him and kiss him again.

At first, Thea didn’t budge.
She watched Selena move with cold eyes, a scowl prevalent on her face. It was evident that Thea wasn’t happy. Not one bit. Her cousin left her alone in her life a second time, and with her absence she took everything. Her job. Her second home. Her mate. Everything that she needed, especially in her trying time. Damn her, she thought bitterly.
But she let Selena hug her. Well, not really, but she didn’t move out of the way of Selena’s bee-line to her. Thea felt the breath squeeze out of her chest. Thea didn’t make a fuss. Really, though, she didn’t make a fuss like she would have. If she was still the hothead she used to be, she would have her fingers wrapped around Selena’s throat. Yet she stayed still, stone-like.
At least, at first.
Her arm automatically raised up to her line of sight. The one Selena burned. It scarred. Like Selena’s fire was actually silver, it had left its mark on her skin. While in her wolf-skin, there was no fur covering the inside of her foreleg. She remembered that time. It still played in her memories, unbidden. Unforgotten.
Thea didn’t think that her anger would leave her. That even though Selena was bawling and snotting, Thea would hold true to how she felt. She still felt hatred to her father, who had never once spoke to her since he felt to battle Graham with everyone else. With Selena though? Hearing her apologize and explain herself? Listening and processing all she had to say? No treaty, no hatred, nothing? Selena actually watching over her?
Ice travelled through her veins briefly at that. What did she see?
Then, Thea broke. She reciprocated the hug. Her arms were shaky. Her legs, too. It was an overflow of relief and sadness. For what seemed like the thousandth time this year, Thea cried as well. It wasn’t the full-on sobs like Selena’s; instead, her few tears travelled down her cheek silently.
There was a reluctance to let her cousin go. But she did, her hands dropping limply to her sides as those brown eyes, now warm with forgiveness, searched her cousin’s face. Her clothing options. Of its own accord, her mouth twisted up on one side slightly, a sign of approval. “Yes,” Thea answered simply. “All three of us got here at the same time.”
The door revealed another person arriving at the squeak of its hinges. Thea had to take a step back to allow the hulk of the man by the name of Drogo make his way to Selena. She rolled her eyes before turning away from the show of affection and adoration Drogo had on his face as he took Selena into her arms.
“Selena,” he whispered, a burly arm wrapping around her waist while the fingers on his other arm wrapped themselves in the black silk she called hair. “There are no words to describe how wonderful it is to see you again.” His lips found hers with ease shortly after that, cradling her bottom lip and tasting the salt of her tears. Not one bit did he mind.
**
Shade didn’t stop running, hope and anticipation his fuel as he made the final leg of his journey to Lupita and his children. He took the stairs up to the porch two at a time, a bright smile on his face at the sight of his mate. His wife. His everything.
With no warning, he didn’t stop his running until he got into the center of his living room, which meant taking Lupita with him. His hands had found her hips, and with ease he picked her up off the floor and twirled her around, laughter bubbling up and out of his mouth. “Oh, my God. I have missed you so much, you don’t even know.”
He set her down, only to take his hands from her hips to frame her face as he placed kisses everywhere he could possibly kiss. Her skin was still soft and inviting, as if nothing had changed at all in the time that they had been apart.
“Kids!” he finally pulled away to call out. His kids, too. God, he’s missed them so much, their moodiness and all. “I’m home!”
Finally.

Selena saw the coldness, the hatred and anger and she understood. Lena couldn't even be angry back or hurt or upset because she had caused this and it was all her fault. Lena had again ran away from her cousin, taken everything from her and this time, taken more, but if she hadn't, again, someone Thea loved would have died, but this time, instead of coming back full of hurt and anger, Lena came back with a sense of completeness and no longer held grudges or hatred for people who had once hurt her ages ago.
When Lena felt Thea reciprocate her hug, Lena's whole body relaxed and she hugged Thea harder. When Lena felt Thea cry she knew that she had been forgiven, even if Thea would never say the words out loud and she knew that she and Thea would be okay. When they pulled back, Lena wiped Thea's tears away from her face and gave her a soft smile. She could see the forgiveness in Thea's eyes and she saw the slight smirk of a smile when Thea looked at her jumper.
Lena gave a soft chuckle when she heard Thea say that the three of them had turned up at the same time. The three most recent 'outsiders' to the Guild were the first to come running when it was back open. She loved that they came home and that the family was back together.
Lena saw Thea roll her eyes when Drogo came in, but was happy that no snarky words were passed between them. Lena then looked up into Drogo's eyes and melted. She had never shown true affection to this man and for that she was sorry, but she was showing it now. Her eyes, still watery from the tears, shone with love and affection. She let him hug her, whereas before her 'sleep' she would have pushed him away and she hugged him back, gripping his shirt and crushing him to her as hard as she could.
Lena's heart fluttered from Drogo's words and kissed him back. She poured her feelings into that kiss; all her hurt, her missing him, her love for him, her happiness that he still loved her and her sorrow at missing out on all this earlier because she was scared and had been hurt bad before.
"I missed you too. I'm ready to give this relationship a try, if you'll still have me." Lena said, her arms still grasped firmly onto Drogo's arms and her eyes still locked with his.
****
While all this was happening, Kenneth had been busy getting the Guild back up and running and once he was happy that it was, he snuck up the stairs and saw Thea standing in the doorway to Lena's office. His heart leaped at the sight of her and he realised then just how much he had missed his mate. It seemed like a few days since he'd seen her, but in truth it was a lot longer. He snuck up behind her and held on to her arms as he kissed her cheek and buried his face in her neck.
"I've missed you T." He whispered in her ear. He slipped his hand down, grasping hers and tugged on it to indicate that they should go somewhere private too and leave Lena with Drogo. No one wanted to see that mushiness.
****
Lupita giggled as she felt herself getting swept up in Shade's charge into the house. She held on best she could till she could safely plant her feet back on the ground. She was then swept off her feet again and Lupita giggled harder. She loved his hands on her, his kisses and she kissed him back. She loved holding him, touching him and seeing him again.
Tay and JJ came running out of their respective rooms and over to their parents. They smiled when they saw their dad and both cried 'Papa!' before flinging themselves into his arms. The twins, both twelve and close to shifting soon, were very happy at seeing their dad. Even though time hadn't moved for them as they'd been asleep and frozen in time, they felt like a long time had passed.

Before the sleep spell – before her life had gone absolutely insane – Thea would have pushed Kenneth away.
Now was different.
She wasn’t looking at Selena and Drogo being passionate. But she wasn’t looking at the doorway either. Studiously, she was inspecting the walls. The window. The desk. All had months’ worth of dust on them. Dust that eventually would have to be cleaned. God, how she hated cleaning. The last time she truly cleaned was for her mother on Mother’s Day. That’s what she was thinking about. Something so mundane to keep herself from going crazy.
Her thoughts suddenly shut down, giving way to instinct when Kenneth snuck up on her. The she-wolf jerked her arms, taking a step forward without breathing. Her eyes were wide, taking in her surroundings with a new mindset. Then, her mate’s lips pressed against her cheek. That was all she needed to think logically again. Well, at least logically enough to realize that whoever had a hold of her wasn’t a threat.
One arm slowly, hesitantly, grasped his wrist in a gentle sort of way. If she had been the Thea he met, she would have grabbed harder with the intention of snapping it before throwing him over her shoulder. But she wasn’t the same Thea. “Did you?” she asked quietly, closing her eyes in response to his face being in her neck. Goosebumps rose on her skin at his whisper. Without a protest, she let him lead her outside.
** Drogo never had the desire to give up on Selena. When it was offered that he should go back home to Romania, he decided to stay, getting a little apartment in the Deadlands as close to the Guild as possible, holding onto the hope that the Guild will open. Drogo is stubborn that way, he supposed. And his patience and hope rewarded him.
Selena was now in his arms, with the intention of giving him and her – their relationship – a chance. He felt what she wanted to say in that kiss. A smile couldn’t be concealed when it came to how he felt. “Silly woman,” he murmured when they pulled away from their kiss, but still he held onto her. A calloused thumb rasped against her cheek, his other fingers still entangled in her ebony locks. “You sound as if you did some heinous crime. Of course, I’ll still have you. You’re the only person I want.”
** Shade was glad for the freezing whatever Selena had put over the Guild. Tay and JJ should have been grown already; Jewel’s children were, and Tay and JJ were definitely older. If Selena hadn’t done what she did, Shade would have missed out on vital events in his children’s lives. Being a first time father, the thought of missing out on their lives had his stomach churning. “Oh, you guys, I’ve missed you too!”
They nearly knocked him over, both of them flying at him at once like that. But he didn’t mind, happiness at seeing them again overflowing as he expelled a hearty laugh. A long time has passed indeed. He never wanted to be away from them again. “Papa’s been so bored without you two, little rascals.” He gave smattered kisses on them in much the same fashion as he did their mother, picking them up with ease. “And work has been hell.”
Being an Outsider was difficult at the very least. It was downright a time-consuming job and physically demanding. That’s why it was always so amazing to come home to Lupita and the kids. They made it worthwhile. While they had been asleep, he was irritable. A force to be reckoned with when he came across rogues coming across the New Dawn territory. He rarely let anyone survive enough to be interrogated. But it was only because he had been away from his family.
Now, all of those border patrols – all of those fights where he was bleeding and half-delirious – was worth it. “I’m so happy you’re awake.” One more time, he kissed his wife, resting his forehead against his.

Kenneth liked the fact that Thea didn’t pull away, that she didn’t shrink away and that she didn’t kick seven bells of hell out of him. He loved that he could make her feel goosebumps and that she was responding so well to him. He did wonder if she would try to put him on his back, but he had to say, he was pleasently surprised at her reaction.
He loved the feel of his lips anywhere on her body, but didn’t want to push her too far. Kenneth took one last gaze at Lena and Drogo, so very loved up and smiled lightly.
As he led Thea away, he stared down at her, giving her a sappy look. He was entranced by her and he had missed her so much. He was sure all of his feelings about missing her and not feeling whole without her could be felt by anyone who stood even remotely close to him.
Kenneth stopped just outside in the garden and turned to Thea, staring lovingly down at her and lightly stroked her cheek, enjoying the feeling of her skin and the tingles it shot up through his arm.
“Of course I missed you. You are everything to me, you know that and I have missed your voice, your smell, your presence and more. Of course I missed you. I love you, Thea.” Kenneth said earnestly and honestly with every fiber of his being. “Did you miss me?” He asked, hope and a touch of fear in his voice that she would say no.
****
Selena had never been happier in her life. Every fiber of her being was humming in happiness and anticipation. She had changed a lot whilst she was up there and she didn’t want to waste any more time being angry or hurt. She wanted to move forward with her life and not dweal on the past, which meant being with Drogo.
Selena leaned into his touch, opening herself up to the possibilities that small touch held and she smiled slowly, humming at his touch and gently closing her eyes.as he engtangled his rough fingers into her long black hair.
“I feel as if I have, I took years away from everyone...from us, but being up there...it changed me, for the better, and I’m glad you’ll still have me after all I’ve done to you. I was horrid before, I’m sorry, I was just afraid of getting hurt, but I trust you now. I can see you’d never hurt me or leave me. I feel as if I have a chance to grow old with you.” Lena babbled and then she blushed and giggled like she was 16 again.
Lena’s heart beated faster as an idea popped into her head. She had never thought she’d ever say the next two words that came out of her mouth ever again. “Mark me.” She whispered to Drogo.
****
Tay and JJ laughed as they almost fell to the floor through the shear force in which they ploughed into their father. Although they had been asleep, they still felt like they hadn’t seen their father in a long time.
“We missed you too!” The both said at the same time and then they laughed.
“Well we’re ready to keep you busy again.” JJ said and Tay nodded. Tay giggled when her dad kissed her and picked her up and JJ groaned and said “Daddddd”
“Well put work out of your mind, your home now, with your family and where you belong.” Lupita said with a soft smile on her face. She looked around her house and sighed at the sight of all the dust and footprints Shade had made coming into the house.
“Oh this house is a state.” Lupita groaned staring at all the surfaces that needed cleaning and the cobwebs in the corners. “Who’s ready to start tidying up?” At this, the twins groaned.

Thea wasn’t much of the sappy type. She hadn’t been; really, she would never be. Certainly, she has gotten more affectionate since the birth of the quads. It was evident in the severely different reaction than Kenneth had expected in his greeting. Of course, she missed him. As months passed without word or sight or scent of the one who Marked her, not only did she wish he was there to help her through trying times, she practically needed for him to get through her ‘in-heat’ times.
Heat rose up from her neck, travelling to her cheeks and ears. She cleared her throat swiftly, eyes glancing away from Kenneth’s intense stare. Her hand tightened on his slightly, her body’s response to his fingers brushing her cheek. Her gaze flicked back to his, ice rushing down her veins at his confession. Love? No. For Thea, there was no love.
Love was for people who deserved it. Her mother, for example, who loved unconditionally, deserved it. Her siblings, who were smothered in that love despite Jewel’s aversions to their choice of people they hung out with. Her best friend, Iggy, who was living her best life with the secret cosplayer Fitz. Even the vampires, whose plane of existence was something completely new to her. People who didn’t delight in taking lives from people. The ones who found that an outcast god from Nordic myth is their ancestor and aren’t intrigued by it.
People like her.
If Kenneth had confessed his love before this sleeping spell, Thea would have laughed in his face. There is no such thing as love, she would have said. But she’s experienced it already. It was in her siblings’ eyes. In her mother’s and Nate’s and cousins as they looked at her. Something that she shouldn’t have any part of, she has taken more than her share. Which was zilch. She couldn’t have Kenneth say something like that to her.
Especially when she’s been particularly ugly to him until now. She remembered her throwing rocks at him. (Her pride winced when she recalled it.) She remembered snarling in his face and literally pushing any physical contact he would give her. The time she ran away after he had locked her in the gym to yell at her for leaving with Selena to get her legs fixed. How can he say he loved her, when someone who deserved love doesn’t act like it?
He doesn’t.
Instead of denying it verbally, she just smiled ruefully and shook her head. She didn’t say it back; she’s never said ‘I love you’ since she was a pup. Not even to the quads. “Yeah,” she said instead. “I missed you.”
At least she didn’t lie to him.
“It’s been a helluva ride without you to knock some sense into me.” She let go of his hand then, and used her shoulder to open the garden door.

“Hmm?”
Drogo had been so engrossed at how Lena’s cheeks have turned such a pretty pink and the way her giggles sounded better than any music he’s ever heard. It was an aphrodisiac. He had made gentle reassurances to her, saying that everything would be all right. Honestly, he was more than happy to stand here, taking her in, keeping her within his reach and making sure she wouldn’t disappear on him.
And then she said something that shocked him.
He opened his eyes, his brow furrowing a bit in confusion. Drogo must not have heard her right. “Mark you?” he asked. His heart leapt, beating hard against his chest at what that could mean. “Are you sure?”

With the twins, Shade groaned. Yet, it was only to mimic his children and to give Lupita a hard time. “A state, indeed,” he muttered, overexaggerating a scoff. Then, he set his kids down, one by one, before standing up straight again.
“If only Selena’s … whatever she did stopped the dust from claiming everything.” As if to emphasize it, his sensitive nose went off in a large sneeze that sounded more like a canon blast.

Kenneth knew that Thea wasn’t like other girls and she wasn’t sappy like normal girls had been around him, but he loved a challenge and he loved her. He hadn’t told her before all this because he knew she’d run like a scared cat, but he felt like he could tell her this time and even if she didn’t say it back, he knew she cared for him and would be broken if anything happened to him. He told her he loved her because he felt that she needed to know how he felt and he told her to prove to her that he’d never leave her willingly or hurt her. He would even leave the Guild and live in a proper pack for her, but he did hope slightly that she’d never ask him to that, he loved his job too much.
He loved seeing the heat flash through her cheeks into her ears and he loved the reaction her body had to his. He knew that she could never admit that she loved him or at least no time soon. Thea had been through too much pain, too much hurt to truly be capable of accepting and feeling back love, but he would wait and he would help her. He’d settle for like and lust for now, both of which he was sure she had for him.
He loved her despite her mean tempered ways, despite her throwing things at him, despite her laughing at him or having sex with him only because she was in heat. He loved her regardless of her attitude or scars or snarky comments, which he had heard many times and had to keep people from ripping her head off because of them. He loved her because she was strong, she was family orientated and because he had seen how much she cared through the way that she cared for Lena and even if she didn’t believe that she could love, he knew she could because he had seen it when he had seen her and Lena together.
He felt a rush of warmth and happiness that she actually admitted that she had missed him. A smile spread across his face and he beamed at her, quickly giving her a peck on the cheek for her answer. He then laughed at her next comment and then smiled as he looked down at his mate, his love, his hellcat and was glad to be awake.
“Yes, we’ll have to keep back to keeping that delicious mouth of yours under control or I’ll have to keep people from attacking you again.” Kenneth said jokingly. “Perhaps I’ll just keep that mouth of yours distracted.” He smirked and leaned into her slowly. “By doing this…” He whispered as he kissed her lips.
**** Lena raised an eyebrow at Drogo and huffed a little.
“Were you not listening to me?” She asked, slightly hurt. “Did you not hear my little monologue? Because if not, you’ll never hear it from these lips again.” Lena humped, her lip pouting out a little. She was a little hurt if he truly hadn’t been listening.
“I was till it seemed like you weren’t listening to me.” Lena said sadly. She was pouting like a wounded child who didn’t get the sweets she wanted. “I asked you to mark me, to make me yours.” Lena said as she looked up at her mate.

Lupita laughed at the interaction between her husband and her twins. She loved that Shade hadn’t missed out on any time with them because they’d all been frozen in time.
“Selena’s spell. It was called the Sleeping Beauty spell and it came from that book Thea gave her as a way of saying sorry.” Lupita explained. Her daughter had come to her as soon as she realised what she had to do and she had put everyone to sleep before herself so that she had time to sort things out. “Anyway, didn’t you ever watch The Sleeping Beauty film? The whole castle sleeps and the place ends up a cobwebbed mess. Just like this” Lu said as she pointed to her house and the dust and cobwebs that had taken over.
“Well the only way to stop those sneezes is to pick up a broom and open up the windows.” Lu said as she walked over to the hall closet and pulled out her cleaning supplies. “Come on, let’s get to work.” Lu said with a smile and the twins groaned as they went over and took cleaning supplies. Tay took window cleaning supplies and started in the living room. JJ took a broom and started sweaping towards the open front foor. Lu took the kitchen cleaning supplies to start cleaning her kitchen and she turned to Shade.
“Honey, can you chase out the spiders and such please? You know I hate spiders.” Lu said with a soft smile before walking off, through the swing door, into her kitchen.

Thea let herself be kissed. Truthfully, she kissed him back. After a bit of hesitance of course. But she did kiss him back, standing on her toes to better reach him and pulling him further into the garden.
She did miss him. It had been an ache that she didn’t know how to get rid of. Her heart, which had been twisted, unraveled itself with a sigh upon seeing him. In that kiss that she let herself have, she could think of nothing else but him. His strong presence. His dark eyes. His smile. Everything about him, she missed.
When the door closed, she pulled herself from him, rocking back on her heels before planting her hands on her hips. “Delicious?” she asked, as if she just now heard what he said. “I don’t think you used the right word.” She chuckled, before dropping her hands. “More like… truthful.” Yes, Kenneth did keep people from attacking her while at the Guild. Truthfully, though, if Kenneth hadn’t, she would have met them dead-on, no restrictions needed. If Thea had it her way, the Guild would have been painted a bloody red by the end of each day someone ticked her off. She told the truth, and people were mad about it.
She started walking, silent at first, as she gathered her thoughts. There’s been so much going on in her life that she wanted Kenneth to be there for… she wasn’t sure if she should tell him now. At the time, it seemed like a good plan, telling Kenneth about everything from the birth of her siblings to Dimitri’s near death to Jackson (okay, so maybe not him) and Rikara to Loki’s sudden appearance.
Now? She wasn’t sure. To break down and tell him everything now seemed so … weak. Especially when she didn’t know how he would react. “So,” she said instead, pushing her thoughts away briefly. “Tell me about this sleep spell.”
**
“Of course, I was listening,” Drogo soothed, showing his canines in a genuine smile. The shock of her want was quickly replaced by sheer happiness. “How can I not hear the words my heart was saying to me?” His hands were quick, going from her face and hair to her hips. Easily, he lifted her off the ground like she merely weighed a feather. When he set her down on the desk, a plume of dust shot up into the air. The sultry look he was trying to give her turned quickly into one of discomfort before he sneezed.
He shook his head and smoothed out the beard he let grow since the Guild’s shut-down as if it was ruffled. “You have always been mine,” he murmured to her, finally looking into those eyes that he’s fantasized about every day since he’s met her. “Selena, you don’t hold my heart. You are my heart.” He took her lips, captured them with his own. It was passionate, one that went from hard and demanding to soft and sweet. His tongue slid out, licking along her bottom lip. His hands travelled down her thighs to her knees, coaxing open her legs so that he could be as close to her as possible. “No Mark can tell me what I already know. But I know that some wolves can think otherwise.” His mouth left hers slowly, moving down to the soft, tantalizing place where her shoulder met her neck. He kissed it first, closing his eyes to savor what he was fixing to do. “I will do whatever you want me to.”
And then, he bit her.

Kenneth loved that she kissed back, he honestly felt like he was on cloud nine, but he tried not to show it too much or he was worried that she’d bolt like a wide horse out of a stable. He loved that she reached for him and that she obviously wanted him.
Kenneth felt how she felt. He felt her love for him and how much she wanted him in this moment. He was glad that she missed him and he loved that she was being a bit more open with him. He had always wanted this.
“You are truthful, my love, but to me, your lips are delicious and very tantalizing.” Kenneth whispered down at her and he remembered many of the times in which he had had to calm someone down who wanted Thea’s head on a spike. He knew that she could handle herself, but Lena couldn’t afford to fix bits of the house anymore and people wouldn’t come to the Guild to join as assassins if they were worried that they were going to be killed by someone in their own house. He had been hoping that he could teach Thea tact, but that might take a bit longer.
Kenneth could sense that she was thinking of something and she was warring inside herself, but it also seemed that she still couldn’t fully open up with him yet and it did hurt, but he knew that if he gave her time, she’d come to him. He loved her and he would always be here for her.
Kenneth thought back to when Lena had put the spell on and everything she had said and done.
“Lena was pushing her magic down, but when she did it came out in spurts when she didn’t mean it to. She had been really missing you and she felt so guilty about what she had done to you so she was pushing her magic down further and further until one time when she was tired and overworked, she snapped. She set off this blast, like a bomb and I was the closest so I got the biggest dose of it. Pure magic hit us all and we all got sick. Our bodies weren’t built for that much magic and we were throwing up, we were weak, we were skinny and our bodies needed time to heal, but we had no ability to sleep. Lena felt awful and then she found this spell in that book you gave her. It would essentially put us to sleep and the magic would seep out of us whilst we slept. This spell would be attached to Lena and so as she slept, so did we and she had already talked to my cousin, the Swamp Witch and Lena was to go on to an astral plane while we all slept and get control of herself and her magic, which she obviously did. The sleep spell also made it so that we didn’t age because Lena didn’t want to take years away from us. Lena told me what she was doing and luckily, Alpha team hadn’t been hit by the spell as they were off on a mission and so they stayed in the Underground and kept the Guild alive. That’s why Westly isn’t here yet. He was running the Guild from the Underground for us. He has aged, but we haven’t. Once Lena was ready to do the spell and everything was in place and more wards were up, we all went to our beds and waited. Within minutes, we were all asleep and woke up today, as you know.” Kenneth explained.
“We weren’t allowed out of the Guild, near anyone who hadn’t been affected and so I couldn’t go near you, which almost killed me more than the sickness did.” Kenneth said, honesty coming out in his voice. “What happened to you whilst I was gone?”
****
Lena’s body shivered at the sight of his canines and she smiled flirtatiously. Lena giggled when he picked her up and set her on her desk. She didn’t like all the dust, it made her feel bad because if she hadn’t lost her cool and set her magic off, there wouldn’t be dust or all these years lost. When he sneezed, she felt bad that it had set him off.
Lena didn’t know how she felt about the beard, it did tickle her a bit when they kissed and he did look good, but beards weren’t her thing. She would have to think on how she felt about it all. Lena couldn’t help, but smile and blush at his words. They warmed her heart and made her stomach feel like it was smuggling butterflies. Lena moaned into the kiss and if she could have melted, she would have. It went from hard to soft and it made her head spin. She loved his tongue and loved his hands on her skin. She opened up her legs and let him get close to her. She was worried, but she trusted Drogo would never leave her and that he was indeed her second chance.
Her heart felt like it was beating out of her chest and hammering hard. Her breathing hitched in her throat and she felt like she was going to pass out. When she felt him close to her neck, she arched her neck to give him more space and she looked at the door. She placed her hands on his hips and felt him getting closer.
She gasped out loud when he bit her and then she moaned. She gripped his shirt at the bottom and her heart hammered harder. She closed her eyes with a flutter and whispered his name as many feelings rushed through her system. This time the bite was more intense and her feelings were more solid. She felt more connected to this bite and this man more than she ever had before. She leaned into him, pushing her chest against him and she ran her fingers up and down his back, loving the feeling of him. She felt like she could melt into his arms and be forever contented.
