(This happens shortly after Casey manages to escape from Mila and that compound)
The night was cold and clouds covered the sky. The wind blew bringing with it the scent of rain. The crash of thunder could be heard in the distance as the storm made its way towards them. Though the storm outside was nothing compared to the one that raged inside Casey. It had taken a few days for it to hit but Kymani knew that it was coming and it had been brewing for quite some time.
After they left the compound, it took Casey some time to fully realize that they had managed to successfully get away from their captors. He’d continuously looked over his shoulder fearing that at any moment he would be taken again. Kymani could sense a powerful storm brewing in Casey and he felt it was a long time coming. The kid had so much to happen to him,but not once has he ever lashed out even a little. He always held it in even when it became too much for him to bare and he tried to kill himself repeatedly, he never said a word to anyone. If his own mother didnt care enough to come for him, why should he expect anyone else?
The constant battle that the kid waged with himself broke Kymani’s heart. He hated seeing the kid go through this but this was something that he couldnt shield him from , no matter how much he wanted to. Instead, he silently watched over Casey.
“They forgot about me. They ...forgot about me. They...forgot... about…. Me…” Casey said in bewilderment as everything began to hit him. “They fucking forgot about me!!” Casey raged. “Not one single person came to help me!” He snarled into the night air. There was so much pain dripping from his words that it was like a physical blow. Still Kymani silently watched over him.
“Not pack, not my supposed mate, not even own fucking mother!” He snarled and punched a nearby tree causing it to split with the force of the blow. The pain that ran through his hand and up his arm seemed laughable to the pain of the betrayal he felt from those he thought he could count on.
“No one fucking cares whether I live or fucking dies! Why the fuck am i even here?!” Why?!” He roared. Thunder crashed as lightning lit up the sky. The rain was getting closer but still Kymani watched him silently. Casey felt like he was being torn from the inside out , cutting him deeper and quicker than his could heal. His body was fighting against him but he ruthlessly fought back, welcoming the pain that it caused.
Pain…. He gave a dry laugh of pure derision and completely lacking even an ounce of humor. Pain seemed something that he could always count on no matter the form it took. It was a simple sad fact that drove him to attack the poor tree.
His hand bled as he took his anger out on the tree but he ignored his physical pain as his emotional pain override him. “No one cares!” He repeated until it became a mantra that was punctuated with each blow that seemed stronger than the last. Pictures of those who he’d cared about flashed across his mind as he continued to hurt himself and the tree. Each face brought his anger higher and higher. The more he became angry the more his body wanted to force shift and the more Casey fought it. With a final snarl he gave the tree one last blow with such force the poor tree snapped breaking his hand, wrist, and forearm in the process.
“No one cares.” He said softly as he stared at the broken tree with blood dripping from his hands “No matter how much I care, no one returns it. No matter how respectful i am , no one respects me. No matter how kind i am , no one is kind to me. No matter how of myself I give ,no one gives themselves in turn. No matter how honest i am, no one is honest with me.” Casey said in such a pained voice that hurt.Soon the rain began to fall but neither cared nor said a word. The rain mixed with Casey’s tears as it washed his face.
“I’m pitiful. It’s no wonder no one cares. I cant seem to do anything on my own. I am always at the mercy of another person. Every time i turn around, someone is always treating me like shit or simply using to get whatever the fuck they want. No one really cares about me but like the dumb fuck i am, i cant just stop caring about other people.Thats how Mila tricked me , for fuck’s sake!”He said with a soft growl as the rain continued to fall.
“Why do I even care? Why do I even bother?” He asked angrily. “Why didnt you just let me die?! Why didnt you just let me go when i had the chance? Being here is too painful,Kymani. I have no place here.” He cried and fell to his knees and cried. It wasnt a soft cry, it was a soul wrenching cry. Kymani didnt speak despite his want to do so. He allowed Casey to have his moment. Casey needed this, he needed to let it all out not hold it in until it tore him up inside.
Kymani could feel Casey’s body need to shift but he held it at bay. This was a monumental moment for Casey. The kid’s cries and wails filled the night and mixing with the thunder that clashed overhead. After some time, his wails had quieted down and his sadness began to turn into pure anger. His body tried to force change and it took everything Kymani had to keep the shift at bay.Casey growled and snarled and thrashed about, attacking any and everything in his path. There was so much anger within Casey that Kymani could no longer hold back the force shift.
The shift tore through his entire body ripping through muscle and breaking bone only to have it heal and reshape. The shift was pure pain. His skin ripped in several places only to heal and be replaced with a dense fur pelt. The pain caused Casey to cry out but the cry soon became gurgled as his mouth became filled with blood as every muscle in his throat was ripped apart only to be reshaped when it healed.
Soon he stood nearly eight feet tall, heavily muscled and very pissed off. His clawed hand dug into the ground as his hind legs dug into the ground before he pushed himself off and continued his rampage and his assault on the nearby trees and stones. Kymani was merely a shadow in Casey’s mind as he silently watched over him. He’d brought Casey here because it was an isolated place and of something like this was to happen then he wouldnt have to worry about the kid killing anybody.
As the storm raged, so did Casey. Kymani saw this as a cleansing of some sort because after this they would start anew. No ties, no family, no pack, no nothing. With no ties, there was less chances for the kid to get to this point. The less likely it was for someone to take advantage of the kid and hurt him. Kymani shook his head as he thought about Eliora and the pack. He scoffed at the thought of Rose. How could a mother abandon her child like that? A part of him wanted to believe that she had looked for the kid but the other part felt like there wasnt any evidence showing that she had looked for the kid so he took it as her not looking for him.
He was a bit more lenient and understanding in regards to the pack involvement in it. Hell he doubted that they even knew about the situation that Eliora was in or what had even happened to them. The pack had seemed to be falling apart despite the efforts that were being made to keep it together. So many people were going missing and dying that he was pretty sure that they had a hard time keeping up with it all. But a pack was responsible for keeping each other safe and they had all been lacking in that regard. They had the Outsiders, he guess. They were bad ass but they couldnt be everywhere at once. He sighed and his thoughts turned to Rose.
In his opinion, she was the worst of them all. She claimed to love the kid but turned around and turned her back on him multiple times whenever her family was involved then had the nerve to try to make Casey feel bad about it. Kymani could understand supporting family, but the Lupien family took it to a whole different level. He thought Casey was a little messed up but the Lupiens took the cake. It was like they had this hive mind thing going on and it was both creepy as fuck and infuriating as hell. They never own up to what they do wrong , always making excuses for each other and try to make people feel bad over some shit that didnt make sense. They couldnt focus on something long enough to make a coherent reply in order to have a decent conversation with them.
The Kid loved the fuck out of Rose, he shouldered the weight of her family just for her. He bit his tongue until it bled just so that he could keep Rose happy. If Casey was to slip up and try to defend himself? It was a fucking problem. Not only did he have to deal with her family trying to jump down his shit, he had his own mate siding with the fucks that caused the problem in the first place. Just once he wished that Rose would actually defend him instead of trying to make him feel guilty because he didnt bow to the whims of her fucked up family. It was fucked up.
He could see it if the kid was a certified asshole who deserved to be treated like that, but Casey was the sweetest guy you’d ever get the chance to meet. He was respectful to a fault and was nothing but respectful, even to that bastard Hayden. Both Kymani and Casey snarled at the thought of that guy. His only saving grace had been that he was Rose’s brother and was part of the pack. More times than none, Kymani wanted to rip the fucker’s throat out for all the disrespectful shit that he had been doing. But no, Casey wanted to keep the peace because he never wanted to make her choose between him and her family.
Kymani growled. Yea that worked out great. Casey neednt have worried about that because she made it abundantly clear, multiple times, that she would always choose her family. No matter what, the kid was always in the wrong in her eyes. He didnt deserve to be treated like that especially not by her.It was no secret that Casey would defend her to his last breath, but the realization that his mate couldnt be bothered to do the same. She talked a good game but when it was time to play? She was nowhere to be found. So he saw it like this, if she wanted to be with her family so much then she could just stay with them because He and Casey didnt need nor want her.
Remembering the state of constant confusion she always had him in made Kymani want to slap the fuck out her in hopes that it would knock some sense loose and she got a damn clue. It always pissed Kymani off. But what Kymani hated most of all was that Casey nearly killed himself because of that bitch. In his eyes, there was nothing that she could do to make up for that.
Kymani gave another growl knowing that the self-centered bitch would never even bother with trying to gain penance for pushing the kid to that point. The kid had to deal with so much shit already that the bull that came with the Lupien family was too much unnecessary shit he didnt need. In a fucked up way, Kymani was grateful to Mila. Kymani. If it wasnt for Mila, Casey would still be trying to hold on to a relationship with Rose. He would still be a bumbling scared little boy unable to do anything, scared to be defiant despite how he feels, and scared to come out of his shell.
Kymani had to reign in his feelings concerning it all. He didnt want his emotions bleeding into Casey’s or influencing them in the least. All of this was and eye opener for Casey and Kymani hoped that he would see through all of the foolishness and do the what he needed to do for him to be happy. Fick everybody else. They’ve shown that they cant be depended on. They only had themselves to lean on.
Kymani sighed and laid down. Choosing the path of a rogue wasnt going to be easy and for the umpteenth time, he wondered if Casey was going to last out here or how long the kid would last. As he watched he came to the conclusion that Casey could last as long as he wanted to but he’d have to be willing to fight for what he wanted. It was kill or be killed out there in the Deadlands and it was Kymani’s responsibility to make sure that the kid survived it.
That last part had Kymani laying his ears back and curl his tail around himself as he laid his head on his paws. No matter who he and the kid decide to blame for what he went through, Kymani was the main one at fault. He was supposed to be protecting the kid and looking out for him,so far he’s been doing such a shitty job and he knew it. He was the kid’s shield and the first one anyone had to go through in order to get to the kid in the first place. In order for Casey to survive on his own, Kymani had to step his game up or they would both be killed.
With these thoughts, Kymani closed his eyes but kept his senses open as Casey continued to rage in the storm.
