Mother Luna watched as the Fatelle children grew up and developed. As much as she hated to admit it, she had a soft spot for their clan. They were the last of the clan that tended to their own and didn't fall into the hole of that idiotic in fighting that killed off the majority of her kin. But it would seem like even they have fallen into the self-destructive tendency. It was heartbreaking to see them destroy themselves but she refused to step in and interfere. She felt that it was their penance for the horrible crime that was done against her beloved.
Quite often she would find herself watching over the children. She knew what their life had in store for them but couldn't bring herself to interfere. Nichole spent so much time in the spirit world than her own realm that you’d have thought she was already a citizen. She practically grew up there. Luna was still amazed at the young girl’s abilities. It was both a blessing and a curse. She turned her attention to the boys and she felt a pull on her heart. They had been inseparable growing up but once puberty hit and they began to have their shifts, that all changed. Their blood lust and aggression towards one another grew more powerful each day. Today it had reached its peak and only one of the Fatelle boys would be walking away alive if they were lucky.
Luna remained silent as she watched the children fight. There was the barest of movements high up in one of the trees that caught her attention and she realized that it was Nichole. She continued to watch them and saw her watching her brothers. The young girl watched in horror from her perch in one of the nearby trees as her brothers slowly circled one another. Nichole had wanted to stop them but she was warned by not only her guardian but the other spirits as well. There was nothing she could do to stop them. If she were to try she would surely die.
As much as she loved the Spirit world and her friends that dwelled within it, she wasn't ready to live there just yet. She could feel the spirit shard resonate with the other two shards that were present. She clutched her heart and nearly growled. She reached in her pocket and took out the small purple tablet that helped her control her own reactions to her shard. She popped it in her mouth and swallowed it. She’d learned how to make them in a holistic workshop using the ingredients her spirit friends had shown her. She had come back wanting to share what she had learned with them, but it was already too late. By the time she had come back to them, they were already too far gone. The sight of her brothers’ massive forms they had taken to rip each other apart and the scent of their blood as it filled the air, made her sick.
They were both in their Urshul forms, huge snarling gnashing beasts with blood-red eyes and saliva dripping from their fangs. They had eyes for only one another as they sized each other up. Their eyes glowed bright and red under Mother Luna’s full gaze. Their large muscles bulged and stretched with each step as their hackles raised high as their flagged tails. Their lips were curled back in an impossible snarl that seemed never ending as their fangs were prominently shown. The way they were salivating was as if they couldn't wait to feast on the tasty morsel that stood before them.
The two males were both passed the point of reasoning. Neither saw the other as their kin but rather the object of their insane bloodlust. There was the briefest of moments of stillness before they sprang into action, both going for the throat of the other but neither finding immediate purchase. They tore and ripped each other apart as the sound of fighting beasts rent the air as their blood soaked into the earth. They began as gigantic wolves tumbling and fighting along the ground crashing into trees and bushes, soon after they pushed through their next shift into their Gauru form. They were fearsome beasts that stood like a man at nine feet tall, heavily muscled, razor-sharp claws and the strength that could rival that of a bull elephant in the state they were in. Nick finished his shift first and tackled Lance while he was mid-shift and began to beat him with his large clawed hands.
Lance saw an opening and used it to grab his brother and toss him over his head. His reforming body screamed as it was torn apart only to meld back together as he finished his shift, all the while glaring at his brother. They snarled at one another and charged coming together with a clawing bang and hit the ground hard. Fur flew as they pounded against one another leaving deep bloody grooves in their wake only to have them heal immediately after as they inflicted more wounds upon each other. They paid no heed to the guardians that dwelled within him. The guardians were powerless to stop the bloodshed. It was as if they had been blocked out completely.
A deep guttural condescending laughter filled her ears and she gritted her teeth as she stood straighter and lifted her chin as Lucien came to stand beside her. She stared down at her vision pool into the cerulean water that allowed her to see those who shared her blood. She waved her hand over the water and it dispelled the image, the only thing it now reflected was the ceiling of her dawn room that held stars within it. It was the first thing that she had seen when she looked up at the night sky on earth, the first day she met her mate. She’d loved it so much, she’d replicated it.
“M’lady. “ Lucien said with a slight bow of his head to her. She, in turn, gave an imperceptible incline of her head in return. “Lucien,” she replied. “What brings you to my reflection room?” she asked as she turned to him. She wore a white and gold dress that looked reminiscent of the roman and greek clothing styles.
“Well its not very often that I get to visit my dear sister-in-law, as the mortals call it,” he said and gave her a charming smile though there was no warmth in it nor his eyes. “I decided to just pay you a visit is all. No real reason to be here other than that.” he said and slowly began to wander around the room. It was very spacious with white giant pillars, comfortable daybeds, cast iron tables, a waterfall that fell from above though the source couldn't be identified as it fed her reflection pool. There were maidens moving about in the room, though at the sight of Lucien they quickly vacated the area.
“If only I could believe your falsities, but alas you wear your colors brightly,” Luna stated calmly which caused Lucien to laugh even more.
“Are you still sore about what I did to your family?” he asked with mock concern. Luna rolled her eyes. “I was merely having fun with my nieces and nephews. If I am being honest,” Luna scoffed but he ignored her and continued. “I didn't think they would be so weak willed,” he said almost thoughtfully. “If it wasn't so entertaining, I would say it was a tad bit sad.” He turned his hazel gaze unto Luna and she narrowed her eyes at him.
“What you did was wrong and resulted in your brother’s death. How can you think that is entertaining in the least?” She demanded quietly. “Again what is your purpose here?”
Lucien shrugged. “If you think about it, I kinda did him a favor. He was ultimately mortal and you, of course, are a goddess. He was bound to die anyway, I just sped up the process. Besides, he is now with you for all eternity. Yay.” he said that last part with such dry derision. “Even after all this time you are still unhappy? Why is that, ‘sis’”? He asked with folded arms and a piercing gaze. Luna looked as if she had been struck but soon covered the momentary lapse.
“How dare you come into one of my sacred spaces spouting nonsense and insinuating that you did us a favor. You have done nothing but destroy my family and what? You want a ‘thank you’? A hero cookie? I am happy that I can have my beloved with me but I am saddened by the circumstances that caused it. You disrupted the balance with that stunt you pulled. Even to this day, it's hardly been fixed. So no, you don't get a thank you.” Luna stated haughtily.
Lucien watched her and listened. When she finished, he laughed again. “Do you hear yourself? you could easily fix this “imbalance” if you so chose. We are in your domain after all” he said with a chilling smile. “You say I destroyed your family huh? That’s interesting. Were you not just watching your last remaining kin kill one another? It has been several millennia since the first downfall and yet you still have not forgiven them. Despite having my brother at your side, you still find it appropriate to punish the innocent? And they say I am the evil one.” he said and laughed at her.
“Have these children not suffered enough?” he asked as he gently touched the water and for a moment it turned pitch black before going back to its previous reflection. Luna stood stiff as she balled her hands into fists by her side. Those six words were the exact ones that Father Wolf had demanded. He had grown tired of seeing his blood spilled over and over. She imagined it was like watching himself died over and over on constant replay. The thought made her sick to her stomach. She almost felt ashamed that it took her this long to even realize that she was torturing the man she loved.
Lucien’s chuckle brought her from her thoughts and had her frowning deeply. “Did the self-righteous Luna have an epiphany? You have done more harm to your own family than I ever could. There are hardly any of them left. And you wonder why many have turned away from you. You punish those who shouldn't have been punished and then try to justify it with some flimsy excuse. Great work. I could not have done a better job.” he said genuinely impressed.
“I don't need any praise from you. I am nothing like you-”
“Yea keep telling yourself that, whatever helps you sleep,” he said walking back over to her.
“What do you want?” Luna demanded.
“Oh nothing much, I simply want to see what happens to those Fatelle children. They are one of two clans left alive and I hear that they have begun to turn on one another. I figured we could watch it together. That is what you were watching yes?”
Luna gave him an affronted look before she waved her hands to watch as Nicholas and Lancelot fought to the death. Lucien moved closer to get a better look and grinned. “They are really going at it huh?” he said rhetorically. “ have you ever thought about what would happen if there was no one left down there to guard the gateways?” Lucien asked as he watched Lance tear a chunk of flesh from Nick’s arm only to receive a heavy clawed blow that ripped open his flesh along his side. The two of them were a bloody mess yet still they fought.
Luna knew and had been trying to find a way to reverse the course things seemed to be taking. She truly thought that she was doing right with the actions she took but time and time again the result always ended up the same. They killed each other for one reason or another. Though this time, with the Fatelle children she thought there was some chance that they would break that cycle. She looked down at the reflection pool and watched as Nick was thrown into a boulder and broke his back. You could almost feel the impact of it. He was down for a moment and Lance took advantage of if as he relentlessly attacked Nick, tearing into his flesh and clawing him as he punched him in the face.
All the while Nick began to heal. It was as if each blow merely fueled his hatred and anger towards his brother. Once he was completely healed, Nick grabbed Lance’s arm that was coming in for a blow and yanked him down hard. The shoulder was dislocated but Nick didn't let go. He snapped it at the elbow and turned on the ground so that he could deliver a powerful kick into his brother’s side breaking many of his ribs.
“Ah man, I should have brought snacks,” Lucien said in amusement. Luna was disgusted with him. Luna waved her hand over the pool and cleared the water. Lucien frowned before he sighed. “Oh come on, it was just getting good.”
“You are taking too much enjoyment out this,” Luna said crossing her arms.
“Well someone has to, otherwise it'd just be boring,” he said with a shrug. “So who’d do you think will win that fight? Huh? Can I have the one who loses?” he asked nonchalantly though his eyes were piercing.
“Is that why you came here? Because you wanted one of their souls?!” She asked incredulously. Only to have him laugh in her face.
Quite often she would find herself watching over the children. She knew what their life had in store for them but couldn't bring herself to interfere.
