Works from Annie's time away from Armin. They're not going to be in order, I'll just write what I want, when I want too, to describe her growing relationship with Bertholdt Hoover and Reiner Braun. Small events, conversation, friendship development... Etc.
Annie felt lost without him. Without Armin Arlert. The man who had been so insistent to stay by her side, to love her, until one day, at her darkest point, he asked her to leave and be happy. What was that even supposed to mean? What was Annie even supposed to do when leaving Paradis was as harsh of a slap to her as arriving in the states and knowing she had nothing. No place to go, no one to call. Just herself, not even her stupid wolf. For once in her life, Annie Leonhart was left to her own devices and she wasn't surviving well.
She had managed to hole up in a small town near a coast, the farthest town away from Marley. It managed to work for two months until she gave up. Until she realized that surviving wasn't making her happy, it was an attempt to make Armin happy. As weak minded as it may sound, what would make her happy was to go back to Marley. Maybe get eaten by someone and becoming a Titan in someone else's body. That would alleviate most of her issues right now.
Annie glanced back at the two males hissing and whispering to each other. She had been staring out the window and now that the sun was setting, she was bored.
Bertholdt and Reiner finished sparring in the wresting ring that decorated the middle of Reiner's gym. The silence of their struggles bringing her attention back to reality. Ears picking up their conversation. "-I'm just saying she's not as pretty as I remember and she has a big nose. Why can't you just get ove-"
"R-Reiner s-stop!" Bertholdt yelped, hitting his friend on the side with a frown.
"You guys are idiots." Annie finally spoke, giving Reiner a harsh look that sent him scrambling to the refrigerator. "Correction, you're a little bitch Reiner!" She called after him. It had been six months since she found Reiner and Bertholdt in the same city she had went too. Six months since they stuck to Annie like glue and she was never able to shake them off. Six months since she slowly started crawling out of her depression, finding warmth besides her two boys. She had two friends, two people that shared their time with her. She never felt like she was out of place. Bertholdt once told her that it felt like wherever Reiner ended, he began. That was becoming her reality too, slowly.
"You're just mad because your ugly!" Reiner shot back, making Annie stand up from her place in the bench. Bertholdt sighed, grabbing her by an arm and holding her back from punching Reiner in the face.
"Guys," He huffed, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his free hand. "Remember the rules of the gym."
Annie and Reiner turned to look at him at the same time, making him flush a deep red with embarrassment as he dropped her arm. "The rules don't apply to the afterschool party."
Both Reiner and Annie said at the same time, Reiner because this was his gym and those where his rule and Annie was just clearly mocking him.
"Come on soldier, show me what you got?" Reiner continued taunting and Annie picked up her boxing gloves, ready to take bait. They've been working out most of the day, training clients, and fucking around. The fact that they still had enough energy to go at it again made Bertholdt sigh.
"I-I-I think you're wrong!" Bertholdt said loudly, Annie and Reiner had just made it to the steps of the ring by the time he spoke. They both turned to look at him with a curious look. "She's not a soldier, none of us are. Soldiers have something to believe in... Warriors are lonely and lost. They just fight because that's all they know. I don't think we're soldiers... But rather warriors."
The room was silent for a long moment making Bertholdt shift uncomfortably and scratch the back of his head. "D-D-did I say something wrong?"
Reiner shook his head, walking towards his pal and wrapping an arm around him. "Nah, sometimes you're just too... I don't know." He said, both boys turning to look at Annie who was just still dryly looking towards Bertholdt.
When it was obvious that she needed to say something, she sighed. "Bert, Reiner can't use his big brain... Now he won't be able to walk straight for a week because he used too much man power trying to process what you said."
Reiner hissed, glaring at Annie. "You're such a bitch, who hurt you?"
"My father." She said dryly, making both boys flinch. She threw her gloves on a chair, no longer feeling like being here with them. But Bertholdt moved towards her before she could leave and Annie felt bad for being so angry when he hadn't done anything wrong to her. He was just who usually ended up with the short end of the stick whenever Reiner and Annie clashed heads.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for him-" Bertholdt started, voice soft and hesitant.
"Remember all those months ago when I was about to go on my suicide mission to Marley but found you in that bank, remember that? How you asked me to wait for you and I said yes?" bertholdt nodded, eagerly. "Then you came out with that idiot and somehow talked me into staying for a bit, to talk? Well I regret saying yes!" She wasn't all too angry, even if her words sounded otherwise.
"I think Annie needs some ice-cream." Reiner mumbled, "Want some ice-cream."
"Reiner... God, please just stop."
"Mint... And you're buying." She told him, kicking him as they walked towards the door. It wasn't perfect, she still felt like she had a hole in her heart. It still hurt the most at night or when she saw someone she confused for Armin. But this, their friendship, it was growing on her. Helping her heal, in turn, helping them heal.
