His little chuckle rang through her ears and made her cheeks feel even warmer. Originally, she'd think that she hates the idea that he's making her blush like a school girl without trying. But realistically, deep down, Annie's heart was speeding. Blushing like an idiot and feeling a thrill of embarrassment over how good anyone looked was new to her. The fact that it was Armin left her feeling conflicted.
She didn't pay attention to people. Even after spending years in New Dawn she barely remembered anything about the people she worked with. Yet, without looking at him she could tell that the tips of his hair curled in a cute little way that reminded her of the mop of hair he wore when he was younger. Without having to look at Armin Arlert, Annie knew the tone he took when he was flustered, knew the shade of pink his cheeks took after exertion, and she knew how cute his button nose looked when it was scrunched up in either frustration or concentration.
Her Titan would say that she hated it. But her Titan had subdued itself in her mind to nothing. Giving Annie full reign of her own thoughts, feelings, and actions. If only for the promise that Annie Leonhart would fall back into place the moment she woke up tomorrow.
"You wish time would stop?" She asked lightly, turning her head to look over at him. Her eyes failed to hold his own, falling down to look at the wrinkled fabric covering his shoulder instead. "I thought the great Armin Arlert couldn't wait to get back out there and finish the mission?" For a New Dawn Scout, Annie now knew something was up with him, and when she went back to the pack, she'd be forced to keep an eye out and find out what secrets he hid.
But for now, Armin was just Armin, and he sounded as tired as she felt.
His next statement surprised her, but it did well to guide her mind back to the present. "Maybe I want a night for us to be free. Not just me... I..." She couldn't bring herself to say that she no longer thought that he was as free as she had originally thought. Instead, she licked her lips and fidgeted with her finger tips as he sat up. "Us," She corrected more firmly after a sigh, staring at him in surprise when he leaned over her.
Her brows drew in and a frown picked at the corner of her lips. On instinct, she pressed herself into the dirt and her heart skipped in a sickening heavy way. Panic filled her heavily, if only because the only other person who's gotten this close to her was Derek, and by force.
Armin had been the only person she's kissed by choice, but she was surprised that he still wanted to touch her even after the drug had subsided in his body. She blinked rapidly, looking up into his impossibly bright blue eyes. Her face softened almost instantly after she grounded herself in the moment and she wanted to ask him why he still wanted to touch someone like her, but she wanted to touch him too.
"Wait, Armin." Her voice was low, but panicking when he started to pull away. She guessed he must have taken her initial reaction wrong, and Annie wouldn't have blamed him if he did. She grabbed his hand, guiding his warm digits towards her waist. Her cheeks felt hot now, and she felt shy when she tried meeting his eyes once again.
Instead of trying to explain herself, she let him go and brought both hands up to slide past his cheeks and tuck his hair behind his ear. Then, she placed one hand on her chest to attempt to calm herself down. Her other hand roams across his jaw, down his neck, past the collar of his shirt to rub lightly across the curve of his collarbone. "You can touch me, Armin." She reassures, her voice a light whisper as her eyes trail along his skin, following the path of her fingers.
