His home was made of dark bricks and large windows, stoned pavement and humid air that rolls off of the surface of the lake. He prefers the smell of saltwater and sometimes the largeness of his home feels foreign and wrong to him. Used to cages and damp concrete, Ivan finds himself wishing that he had people to fill in the empty gaps. Especially at night, when the house makes too many shadows, and he's reminded that he has too many enemies. He could always choose to stay closer to Ventia and his children. Closer to the pack he's once obsessed to take over. Closer to the rouges. But he was a man that needed to see achievements woven into reality. It wasn't enough to have money, he needed to feel the proof of it. Lavish in fancy things and fill in a void left from his impoverished youth. The large ceiling to floor windows glides open and he steps into the damp wood of his balcony. Instantly met with a cool breeze and the sight of fog dancing over crystal clear waters. The sky is heavy with shades of grey and the promise of heavy rain. He wonders if Ventia would come over. But suppose she's too busy with Rose to drive the extra hour out. Besides, he's sure he'll get mad at her for driving in the rain. As he gets mad at her for a lot of things he can't even explain. Chuckling, he rests the cup of whiskey against his lips. "Seems like age has made me a sap." He whispers to himself as he turns his head to the left. Feeling her approaching before he's even able to smell, see, or hear her. Ventia

The rain had been relentless up until twenty minutes ago when it started to lessen up, she had left Rose leaving a larger tip than the already larger ones she had done before, in guise for thanking the girl for talking to her. She should have returned to the Pack or at least called before deciding to show up, but her finger had hesitated over Ivan's name in her phone and instead she just found herself driving out in his direction, taking her deeper away from the road back home and farther into the still safe lands. To where her mate was.
She wouldn't lie and say she didn't have a lot on her mind, because she did. Her daughter's words had been playing on a loop in her head, the same way that Ivan's did whenever he had something smart to say. It was at times like these that she felt so weak minded, confusing emotions always making a mess of things. She had really fallen from the person she used to be. Reliable. Cool headed. Using logic and realism to make decisions. Now she was wavering like a timid leaf in the breeze, going here and there, wherever her emotions wanted to take her for that day.
She cut the engine near Ivan's car, looking out at the large lake house that he had bought a week or so after coming back from the grave. She liked it, it suited him but all the same felt wrong. Such a big house for only one man. Would this have become her home if she had just stuck it through with him before, she thought as she got out, would her kids have filled the open space with their laughter and maybe warm Ivan's cold heart? She closed the door and walked towards down the stone path, the fresh scent of dew clung to the grass and gardens, the scent calming her as it always had.
Ventia tried the front door, not surprised to see that it was left open, whatever idiot decided it would be fun to rob this house would only succeed in amusing Ivan for a few minutes before he taught them a valuable lesson. She took a moment at the threshold, getting a good look at the darker tones of the insides, decorated just enough to have everything one needed in a household. Yet missing the personal touches that usually came over the years of making a house a home.
She bit her cheek, the earlier wound had healed already but she was sure she'd break the tender skin soon again. She entered, closing the door behind her and locking it for good measure before following Ivan's scent. He was everywhere in here, his home, as if it was only his scent he could fill the house with. She found him standing on the balcony, the dark skies behind him casting him in a dark light, making him seem as dangerous as the day she first saw him.
"Time does that to a person. Even more so for you considering everything." She said softly, hearing the whispers of his voice echoing in the silent walls, she came up behind him and let her arms slip around his waist, pressing her front to his solid back, and closing her eyes as she hugged him. She still had so much she wanted to say, both from her visit with Rose and her thoughts about them as a couple, but Ventia didn't want to explode and make things even more confusing as she tended to do whenever they were together. Instead she sighed and lifted herself up to press a tiny kiss to the base of his exposed neck.
"What are you feeling and thinking about?" She asked innocently genuinely curious to get to know the man in front of her again. Too much time had passed and although she was sure they still knew each other bodies and were compatible in bed, their hearts were still out of reach of understanding.

She looked tired.
When he finally removed his gaze from the lake and trailed his eyes towards his mate, his heart settled low in the pits of his guts. She was tired and he knew he was the blame for a good portion of the heaviness that weighted down on her shoulders. Anger spiked in his chest at her words, ego bruising. Had he gone through a lot?
He's always won.
That's all that mattered in the end.
He was still set in his ways. Whatever he set his mind to, he would get. Money, land, status, life, a mate, children. Ivan had so much money he was sure he'd have to die and come back to life ten times over before putting a dent into it. Everything else fell like dominoes behind it. Land and status, even respect, it all came when a person had enough money.
Respect, fear, love, jealousy. Those emotions fell into place too. What does an ambitious man have once he looses all his ambitions? That's what was on Ivan's mind. He looked at Ventia, silver barely contained in the depths of her eyes, Tension around the corner of her eyes and the arch of her brows, Ventia- oh so beautiful and strong.
His heart fell past the wooden floors of the balcony and into the lake.
Ivan grinned, turning around to wrap his arms around her waist. "Christmas is coming, love. Am I on your naughty or nice list?"

She smiled slow taking his scent in. Ivan smelled like a rain forest, fresh and rich of the outdoor pine and woodsy fog with a darker smoky flavor layering beneath it. She loved his scent, a lone shirt he had left at her house all that time ago had been one of hers prized collection, even long after it had lost his scent. Now she had the real thing in her arms, and at times it was almost unbearable the way it sizzled into her lungs and found their way home deep within her.
Ventia sighed, relaxing against him, pressing more of her weight onto him knowing he could always carry it. Her. Her problems. They would seem tiny in his eyes, with his abilities, and he would fix them all one by one without so much as breaking a sweat. Her fingers always hungry to touch him began to spread open moving over his low stomach above the smooth cotton of his shirt, feeling the full width of him. She was reminded at how big he was, taller than her wider than her bigger than her, a prime example of what a man was supposed to look like, at least in her eyes.
His muscles were hard, a silent power waiting for mishap and mayhem at his maker's request, and Ventia reveled in the feel of her mate's body. Reveled in the fact that she could feel him, that he was back and everything else could wait. She eased up on him, letting him turn around in the hug and now clutched at his forearms, her fingers rubbing his bare skin and enjoying the foreign yet never forgotten play of tingles with every touch.
"Naughty or Nice?" She hummed, musing lightly her eyes lightening up with a brighter shade of silver when she caught sight of his grin. She loved it, loved all his wicked and sweet grins even to this day it made her toes curl in delight hidden by her boots.
"You?" She chuckled next, shaking her head at him. "I would say Naughty but you've been very Nice. I'm sure Santa will leave you a equally as Nice present under the Christmas Tree this year." She traced her arms up to his face, lighting touching the ends of his hair before linking her wrists behind his neck, pressing herself up more at him and hugging him a little tighter.
"I do think you're skipping a few holidays, but tell me what does Ivan want for Christmas. I'll have you know, me and Santa are friends, I could probably call in a favor or two." Ventia was teasing him now, the sparkle in her eyes playful and ready for fun, her smile matching his as she stared up into his eyes, another thing she so loved about him. Really he was everything she ever wanted and while before they may have butt heads on certain things like life but lately now Ventia could see no issues in him.
He really was being nice and it made her hope for a better ending then the one they were given the last time.
"Although, I do already have a gift in mind, I'll be sure to wrap it prettily with a ribbon so you know it's from me." She smiled sweetly, her voice holding a promise.

Ventia was in a good mood. That eased his mind a little as he watched her, clicking his tongue with a shake of his head before sipping on his drink. The ice ball clanked around the cup as he placed it down on his wooden table before tending to her drink. One sphere ice cube, and three-fourths of a glass cup full of the most expensive bourbon he could get his hands on without having to personally travel halfway across the world.
She was in a good mood and from the twinkle in her eyes to the shape of her grin, he was enjoying the sight he had missed and haven't seen in years. But Ivan was known to ruin good moods. Smirking, he gestures for her to sit in the chair across from him before handing her a drink.
He silently watches her past the rim of his glass and although he was sure he didn't want to start the day by ruining the mood -especially since this was the first time she made it out to him- Ivan knew he wasn't one to jump around sensitive subjects.
"Well since you and Santa seem to be close enough for you to call in favors, don't mind if I do get a bit greedy now that I know, darling." He bit his lower lips, eyes resting heavily on her as he leaned back. He wanted to fuck her, wanted to see her fall apart and embrace everything she's never done with him.
She was a wild one, he could feel it in his bones.
But despite wanting to explore her in ways he was never given the chance too, Ivan had more pressing matters at hand. "I want you to move in with me." He said calmly, maintaining eye contact even as he leaned back and teased his tongue with another small gulp of his drink. Swishing it in his mouth as his taste buds got set on fire in his mouth and his eyes burned a hole through her.
"I want you to move in with me," He repeated, calmly and evenly. Before he would have just dragged her to the basement and locked her up until he got what he wanted. While the idea was amusing and he had that exact same plan, something about it didn't sit all too well with him.
He would drag her after she told him no. But he was willing to give her a chance.
"Or... Stop playing doormat and become Alpha of the New Dawn." He wanted one of two things. For her to abandon or take control of the pack. He was giving her options and this time her choice wasn't laced with sedatives at the bottom of her glass or in a piece of chocolate. This time, he was willing to let her bite him back. But one thing was for sure, Ventia would not be leaving his home until a decision was made.
It turns out, Ivan was still ambitious after all.

Ventia moved away from him with only a ounce of reluctance giving him some room as he fiddled with the drinks, her eyes watched his fingers once again finding herself thinking he had hot hands, his veins pushing against the surface of the back of his hand and going straight up to his forearms. She hummed lightly, moving to the chair he gestured to before taking the glass, easing into the chair and leaning back getting comfortable.
Her smile was warm when he mentioned the Santa bit, happy that he had taken the joke lightly as it was supposed to be taken. "Greedy and Ivan go hand in hand darling. I'm used to it by now, so be my guest-greed away." She taunted back in a playful tone before lifting the glass to her lips, despite his track record with giving her sedatives hidden in ordinary things, Ventia didn't feel afraid for her safety in his presence. Yes she knew her mate could go about something in the opposite direction a normal person would do things, but what could she say, it was part of Ivan's charm.
And he hadn't really hurt her...well...not enough to make her see him in a different light.
She was taking her first mouthful of the sweet and smooth bourbon when he finally spoke again. She immediately blinked once then twice as that sentence jumped back and forth between her head, when she swallowed to ask him to repeat himself he had done it before she even got the chance to. Ventia stared at him, her grip on the glass felt loose so she tightened her right hand and narrowed her gaze at her mate, she should have felt happy and she was but...but she felt like there was a but coming.
Like there was something else Ivan wanted. He always wanted something, usually something Ventia couldn't give him, not because she didn't love him but because she loved everything else in her life just as much.
His last words felt like they burned her. Ah. Bitterness filled her mouth, replacing the sweetness of the liquor. There it was again. Her eyes began to sharpen even more with the now angry silver, her skin felt hot the air seemingly escaping from the large ass mansion. She could hear Jewel's voice in her head again, telling her that everyone looked up to her as their Alpha now, even if Ventia herself persistently told them she was only their Beta.
She raised the cup, drowning the rest of the liquor and jumped to her feet, ignoring Ivan for a moment as she went back to his counter, pouring herself a hefty amount before tipping that glass down her throat as well. She did it again. Then again. Until she could finally taste a resemblance of a burn going down her throat. She sighed then, pouring herself another glass before turning around, meeting Ivan's eyes.
"I can commute if you want to live together. Or you could move in with me, be a part of the Pack. I don't have to do that." Her voice was hard but not entirely cold, strained was more like it. She didn't want to fight with him. She didn't want to fight about the elephant in the room, something she's been putting blinders on for years now.
"I'm not going to abandon my Pack. You just brought back Katie home. You just let me see Rose. Ivan...why are you doing this? Don't be like this. I don't want to fight with you." She took another sip, wetting her lips.
"New Dawn is doing fine. I am Alpha. In everything but the rank, the title. They come to me if they need anything. They look to me to protect them. It's my job to keep everything running. And I've been doing that. All by myself. I don't need the title. It's..." Ventia looked away from his all too knowing eyes and finally said the one thing she's been keeping hidden. The sole truth of the matter.
"It's not my place. It's theirs. I don't care if they're dead. If I haven't heard from them in ages. I don't care if she's dead. She was and always will be my Alpha. I cannot take her place." Her voice vibrated with emotion at the mention of Decoii, at her Alpha.
She pushed the feelings away and moved around the seat's to sit closer to him. "Let's say, I did. I took the title. What does that mean for us? We've barely figured this out and now you want me to become the main thing of something you hate? Really Ivan? What then? Why does it have to be one or the other?"

Ivan watched her every move. Waiting for her to lash out, to break one of his expensive glasses or put a hole through one of the walls. Watching her drown her anger was amusing in ways that, if they had a healthy relationship, it shouldn't be. It wasn't that he enjoyed watching her like this... Well, he did. In a way, when Ventia let her emotions through, he got to see a glimpse of her that he normally wouldn't.
She was interesting and despite the years, he still felt like there was so much of her that wasn't available to him. He didn't blame her. He was at fault for a lot of it. A man who didn't take into account time because Ivan was always convinced he had enough time to fix all his wrong doings. He was convinced that he could charm or pay his way out of any and every situation.
Until he died.
He didn't mean too, but he ended up laughing. Blue eyes crinkled in the corners as he struggled to contain the symphony of laughter that rose past his stern lips. Ventia's head snapped towards him and he dropped down to lay on the lounge chair, keeping his cup balanced as he looked up at the sky. He was a man that needed to work on his patience, and probably get a new haircut. Ivan's brown wavy locks already started blocking his vision in that annoying way it tended to do.
He clenched his jaw, then sat up. Face morphed into a look that spoke of his seriousness on the subject. His hand clenched around the glass of his cup and he put conscious effort in loosening his grip on the cup and gripping down on his impulses. Ventia wasn't someone he cared to morph into a person of his liking. Not like before, not when he'd thought of her, and their children, so much in his death.
He wanted to be able to understand her and work with her. He wanted to understand why she was the one that was chosen for him, and why, despite his many many shortcomings, he was chosen for her. He just needed to work on his temper, his timing, his tongue, his stubbornness, his closed mindedness, his inability to want to stay sober, his always seeing life as some sort of game, his wanting to make life some sort of game.
Yeah, the list was extensive and it always got shoved into the 'tomorrows problem' portion of his brain.
"Your life is so stagnant you can't even smell your own shit anymore, V." The lake was beautiful, maybe he could hold her head under the water until she stopped being a brat. With love, obviously. Ivan felt like they got along much better after they punched out their differences a little bit. He wishes he could have gentler words, but he knew her enough to know that she wouldn't understand or snap out of her shit if he spoke gently.
"I know you think you're fucking doing better and you're getting somewhere but you're not. You haven't taken a step forward since your Alpha died and you used my death as an excuse to bow your head and stay in the same depressed piece of shit mentality." Ivan stood up then, placing his cup on the table nearest him before moving to hover over his mate. She attempted to stand and with heavy hands against her shoulder, he pushed her back against her lounge chair, grabbing her chin roughly to make her look at him.
"Listen to me." His eyes were dark, consumed by swirls of black that dimmed out any light and color. "While I'd rather let the pack burn off and die, I'd rather let any beta fall to their knees and crumble. I'd rather sit back with my million dollar bottle of scotch and watch the almighty New Dawn pack get desecrated. I. Just. Cant." He let go of her chin, but chose to hover over her. "Turns out I like you more than I like the entertainment."
"The New Dawn pack became the empire it was because it bent old rules and became something that modern shifters could work together on and be proud of. It still disgusts me, all those races mingling together and people below omega's walking around with their heads up and high. Alpha's reputation kept the pack safe even after their deaths. Angus might as well be dead too, V. The whole shit reminds me of a fucking pyramid scam."
"Don't forget who I am and what I know. Your view of the situation is very limited because you refuse to see the evidence that proves that times are changing. Territory has already been lost, cockroaches have already thought of themselves as more and are attempting to fly through the ranks and are multiplying. Other packs have already started testing the waters, hoping to obtain the pack as their own. Your own wolves don't even know their own places anymore. Hunters are planning to slaughter and whoever gets the most heads wins a shiny new car." That last bit was dripping with sarcasm.
Ivan moved over to his cup. "A beta's sole role is to become Alpha if anything happens. A handful of rats seeing you that way does not make you the Alpha. There are parasites in all of your ranks and frankly, I'm betting that by the years end this pack will either be killed off by rouges looking for power and a name or consumed by another pack for it's riches. I don't give a fuck about your pack, V. But when that boat sinks, I know you'll go down with it and I'm not letting you do that. If I have to force you off of it, I will."
Was he threatening to lock her away again? yeah. He had a floor down below that looked like a home but with no exits. Hell, he had cells too if she preferred to be put in tinier boxes.
"You need to fucking do something about it. Not just for you, but for the kids. You just got them back, V. But if you refuse to do something about it, you have to let go of the pack and move on because I'm not letting you or them stay anywhere near there. I don't care if it makes me a bad guy."
He takes a long drag from his drink. "Become the Alpha of the New Dawn or move in with me and abandon the pack." It remained unsaid that he would not take no for an answer and he won't allow her to continue to hurt herself the way she has been hurting herself. Grinning, he sits back and with a blink, his eyes change back to that lazy and cocky Ivan way, the tenseness of his body letting up as well. "Forgive me and my speech baby."

"You can be such a ass." Ventia glared at him, her heart hammering against her chest her ears ringing with his words she had grabbed his wrist the one that kept her chin in a tight lock. She wasn't even trying to get it off no just gripping his skin feeling his heat the play of tingles and his hypnotic tempo of his heartbeat under her own grip. She couldn't look away at him either, his eyes stormy and dark and making every submissive bone in her body melt at finally getting serviced on some level.
She hated it, her anger growing because as much as Ivan was being a dick about it she knew he was right. They were all right. Jewel. Andy. Darian. Nate. All of them, she's had so many conversations moments with all of her Pack Family in this last decade. They all told her the same thing. To make it official. To step up. That it was time. That it was okay for her to. That New Dawn needed their Alpha back.
Silver bloomed softer in her gaze as the pinch of tears threaten to show, Ivan let go of her chin and she threw her grip on his wrist away making his arm swing away from him more than it would have as he continued to loom over her and mansplain everything like she didn't already know all of this. She shut her eyes, forcing the urge to cry away and tried to hold on to her anger as a crutch.
Try as she might, Ventia couldn't. She rubbed at her face, feeling suddenly very old and tired, and continued to sip at her drink until there was silence in the room. She had heard everything, it was hard not to when Ivan's voice was the only sound within such a large room, every sound made its way into her ears and Ventia had no choice but to notice everything.
"Are you done?" She asked nicely, and finally pulled her hand from her eyes and turned in the seat to look at him. She pulled one leg onto the chair, getting a little more comfortable.
"You're right Ivan. You're absolutely right. But you always are." She rolled her eyes and looked away from his face, letting out her frustrated breath.
"I'm not going to abandon the Pack. So I guess I'll become Alpha." Resolve and calmness filled her voice, she stared outside at the trees and lake what she could see of it and smiled.
"It is a pretty house though, almost a shame. There. Happy? You got your wish. Now what about mine." Ventia turned back to him, a gleam in her gaze now, bright and full, "What are your plans now? Are you going to even attempt to spend time with your children? All of them? Jareth, Rose, and Katie? Where do you plan on living? Here? In this big place all by yourself? Where we will barely see you? If you don't want to become Pack, become a Outsider and protect us. We are your family aren't we?"
"That's why you came back right? For me and the kids. Or are you going to put another play on and live another life doing exactly what you always do. Run away from something actually good. Putting effort in something foreign to you like say taking rank within a Pack that your family is all in. Or is it gonna be King of the Rogues again? and Again?"
Ventia sipped on her drink, "Instead of staying at my house within the Pack you chose to buy this mansion. It was fine under the excuse of looking for Rose but you've found her a week ago and haven't been by. If we're just going to repeat the same cycle Ivan I want to know now."
"Like you said, things are about to get busy for me so lets start checking some boxes now that we're here."

Ivan cleared his dried throat with a small chuckle, going over to his bar and placing the shot glass down to favor drinking right from the bottle. The small cup not offering him enough relief. As much as she rolled her eyes and called him an ass, Ivan had never tried expressing himself with words before. It was new to him, a non chaotic approach that only proved that he had a lot to say when he was asking rather than demanding.
He drank as she spoke. His anger flaring briefly at a few choice things but he kept it as muted as the small buzz that was currently shivering through his system. For all her shortcomings and anger, Ventia was such a goddess and he was smitten. The idea rocked another chuckle out of him and he enjoyed the small flare of annoyance that crossed her face at his reaction.
Eventually, when she finished, because Ivan wanted her to get the chance to talk too, he moved over to her and knelt at her feet. Grabbing her left boot and placing it on his leg. "I don't want you to be an Alpha of some stupid pack, Ventia." His voice was dripping with mockery at the thought, sharp and serious all the same. Once he finished unlacing and removing both her boot and socks from her left foot, he turned to work on removing them from her right. "I want you to stop being stagnant. The living die, it's just what we do. We become stagnant. But the clock stays ticking for the living. Time moves forward and you should have too."
He places her belongings to the side, before straightening to remove her jacket, her shirt, hands pausing at the hem of her pants. "You should start living again, don't you think? Leaving the pack or taking it over, it's up to you. But something has to happen to get you ticking again. May I?" He tucks at her pants, asking for permission. "While we're here. What is it that you want from me?"

Ventia let him do as he wished, sitting there in her bra and leggings but made no move to lift herself up so Ivan could continue undressing her. She sighed again, bending forward to finally put the glass on the table behind him. Then she grabbed his hands, Ivan was always like a mountain to move but Ventia was as stubborn as ever and with time she got his hands off of her pants. She gripped both of them, sliding her fingers in between his and pulling him forward, letting her legs slide out and around his waist, locking behind him.
"You completely ignored my questions. Why do you always do that? Am I talking out of my ass? Do you have a hearing problem on top of your attitude one?" She mused softly into his face, her breath touching his lips, with him so near she couldn't resist closing the tiny space to press her lips against his, barely a kiss more like contact, but she opened her mouth and snagged her teeth on his lower lip, biting him roughly until she could get a taste of his blood.
She murmured between the bite, "I want more from you Ivan." She let go of his lips, pulling back.
"I want you to answer me seriously, don't try to get me distracted by taking my clothes off, and tell me point blank your plans going forward. I'm not going to give you a list and let you pretend for a few weeks or months only to get fed up with it all. I'm not going to force you. Just tell me Ivan, the truth please. Time moves forward yes, I don't want to move backwards anymore."

Ivan shifted up on the seat, until his knees were planted between her legs, and his elbows dug into the chair on either side of her face. His plan for distracting her failed and being called out brought a small smirk to his face that he couldn't even hide despite her teasing disrespect. "Tsk. Someone is far overdue for a good spanking." He teased, letting her draw blood from his lips only to press his lips on the valley of her chest, kissing and nipping the swell of her breasts as she spoke.
He could taste her, beyond the taste of his own blood and his body responded at being so close to her. Dick stiffening as he pressed his center down against her, a silent warning of what she was doing to him. He kept kissing her breasts and her neck until her skin flushed pink under his rough lips and nibbles, then, before he could get too greedy he removed his mouth from her with one final blood drawing nip.
"I'm going to lift this house and move it where you want it to be. I'm going to buy land and come up with a compromise that would allow me, as a rogue, to live with you. I'm going to move you and the children into this house and work on helping you sit on a throne that would never get challenged. You and the children will rise to a ranking so high that no one would dare even dream of harming any of you ever again."

She blew out her breath in a exaggerated fashion, feeling small and cornered under Ivan's body weight, she also felt safe though and couldn't deny the way her heart spiked at his spanking comment as well as the blush beginning to show on her cheeks. She didn't comment on it, not trusting her voice for that at least, and slumped her head back momentarily looking up at his ceiling while feeling his lips and teeth on her chest.
Her skin shivered puckering to attention at his wet tongue and the sharp bite of his teeth, Ventia let out another breath it sounding like a hiss this time as her fingers moved on their own accord away from his fingers to slide into his rough silky hair, was she trying to pull him away or push him closer? Ventia didn't know, didn't care to think about the subject, she was always like this with Ivan, feeling like she was everywhere all at once, wanting each of her desires to be fulfilled at that exact moment simultaneously. No matter how opposite each of them were.
She eased her head back up when he began speaking again, finding herself staring into his brilliant dilated eyes that were both dark and pumping with the royal blue color she so loved. His words made her flush even more, she tugged on her lower lip, trying to see if he was just telling her what Ventia wanted to hear or if Ivan was being for real. Her fingers eased down from his hair, cupping both sides of his face, her fingers brushing the space just below his eyes, eyes full of life, not empty and dead as they had been fifteen years ago.
"I want that Ivan. I want you. I always have, I always will." She laid her forehead on his, taking a deep inhale of his scent, as much as they butted heads, Ivan had always felt like home to her. Unfortunately no one, no matter how much she cared for them, had ever managed to make her feel the way Ivan did when he held her like this.
"You're gonna do things your own way, I get that, you always have and in the end, it benefits me as well so its not like I want you to stop. I just want you around us more. I don't want to go to bed alone anymore either. You want me greedy, I'll be greedy." Her tone shifted towards the end, returning to the playful one she'd used in the beginning.
"I want you in my bed every night, waiting for me to come home. Doesn't that sound nice?" She asked, pulling back to look into his eyes again, her lips spread out in a lazy smile.

Ivan sighed while removing himself entirely from his mate. With one last drink, he pulled a chair and placed it in front of her seat, leaning back as he placed his boots on either side of her, rocking his chair back on two legs as he watched her express herself.
immediately, his anger flares. "Bold words for someone who lays with a parasite, still." If Ventia wanted him why was she still tied down to the girl who'd made herself at home in his mates house? The jealous thought slipped from his mouth far before he could realize he'd even vocalized it.
But that was the issue with Ivan.
Despite wanting to do better and tiring of the games and mindless foreplay into the shittiest situation, he was still a man of habit. He still had the dumbest things to say, the stupidest impulses to act upon. He would take the worst course of action in just about every and any situation just for the excitement or the humor of it.
How would she ever take him seriously? Worse yet, children that didn't even claim to be his. He was always doing exactly what he wanted, she was right about that too. Ivan had changed a lot, maybe his impulses became deadlier, or maybe he just cared too little for his own life now that he knew what came after.
He wasn't sure.
But what he was sure of was that the expensive liquor was starting to taste dull. The idea of lifting a house and moving it miles away stirred an unpleasant feeling in the pit of his stomach. When did he go from someone who was proud of building their empire to someone who just showed off their money because of vanity?
Ivan was always vain, even back when he was worthless. But now, coming back to life and swimming in pools of luxury and money felt so stupid to him, it was almost uncomfortable. He was a man of power, sure. A man of money, why not? But when did he stop being a man of his words? Of action? of thrive and want?
He wasn't sure.
But when he looked into his mates stormy and conflicted eyes, he was sure that he could be honest for once, because, well, why not? Why not help his family, a concept he'd thrived for and failed, reach glory? He could even forgive that she would be an Alpha.
Ventia's eyebrows drew in, eyes swirling in colors brought forward by the mixture of feelings swirling inside of her. He expected to feel something negative at thinking of what her road in life was going to be. An Alpha, a chained dog, to New Dawn no less.
But the more he expected to feel, the less Ivan actually did.
Maybe he finally understood what love could do to a man, maybe.
"I swear, V. I'm being serious."

Hot and Cold, that was her mate. Ever changing between the two. Ve was used to this, so she didn't flinch when his voice darkened with his false accusation that she was still sleeping with Lue. Yes it was false, Ventia hadn't even talked with the lovely succubus since Ivan waltzed back into her life hence the ignored phone calls and texts. Yet she didn't rise to defend herself, because even though she had no contact at the moment, Ventia still didn't know how she'd feel when she would meet Lue face to face. So yes, she didn't blame him for his comment, knowing at the core of it that there was still some truth to it. After all, Lue did make herself at home in her house and all her stuff was still there for all to see.
She did like the jealous tone in his words though, easing back into the couch wrapping her arms around her chest, watching him as he watched her. She didn't want to let him go, no matter how twisted they could be together, Ventia fully planned to keep her claws firmly implanted into her mate's hide so he couldn't escape her again. She had lots of thinking in their time away and this time she wouldn't let it so easily dissolve as it had before.
"You better be." She said lightly, easing up and letting her fingers find his knees, she let her hands wander up his thighs squeezing his powerful muscles until she found the hem of his pants, her fingers scratched at his skin underneath until she got up from the couch and then sat back down on his lap, letting her hands ease up his chest taking off his shirt as they went.
She flung the shirt away and glanced down, looking over his bare chest with interest in her silver gaze before meeting his gaze again. "Let's keep this house here as it is, it's in a pretty location, can be our lake house if we want to get away for a weekend or two. You can always build a better one anyway." She bent down, pressing her lips on the recently renewed mate mark that was on his neck. Her fingers sliding into his long locks and with a little tug, his neck arched back giving her more room to work with.
She kissed his flesh with slowness, her fingers massaging his head, her teeth teasing his skin. She pulled back, releasing the pressure in his hair so he could ease his head back and she could look into his eyes again. "I haven't seen Lue since you've came back, just so you know." She told him slanting her eyes up at him a little annoyed that he would think so despite her earlier thoughts.
"But you're right, I do have to settle that." She sighed, wrapping her arms around his neck in case he tried to get away from her again. A little smirk played on her lips, "I do like you jealous though so hmm." She mused for a few seconds, humming lightly before letting out a chuckle and shaking her head.
"I'm playing you know. I choose you idiot. Now go and disappear on me again? And that's it, I'll drop you faster than you can come back from the grave. Which wasn't all that fast actually but you should get the picture." She smiled softly, a hue of sadness filled her gaze before she blinked it away.
"I love you Ivan." Ventia said it loud and clear, so he didn't get to pretend he couldn't hear it, she brushed back his bangs from his face, looking into his exotic eyes and brushed his lips lightly with her thumb. She always found him so handsome, like a ancient god that had been sculpted into being just for her. How could she not love him? How could she choose anyone else other than him? He had slipped from her fingers once she wouldn't allow that to happen again without putting in every fiber of her efforts to stop such a cruel fate.
"Now that we cleared that up, shall we move on to something more fun? I wouldn't mind a dip in the pool or the lake."

When Ventia told him that he better be serious, his heart dropped a little bit. He wasn't used to being vulnerable emotionally, so he left out a little affirmative sound, and chose not to say much else. Luckily, Ventia took initiative and moved to sit on his lap. The distraction of being near her and feeling her warmth was welcoming and after he helped her take off his shirt by raising his arms, he moved to place his hands on her hips.
He did agree that keeping the house here was for the best. He wasn't sure how he felt bringing it over to her territory, and briefly wondered if they should build a home together, wherever she decided she wanted to live. He wasn't sure how to communicate this when her gaze fell so heavily on his. Or when her lips tingled from his neck down to his toes. Her fingers on his hair didn't help either.
Huh.
Funny how the tables have turned. His mind buzzed with emptiness. Lust wasted no time in filling every fiber of his body. Ivan let out a soft happy sigh, closing his eyes as he enjoyed her attention. He growled at the mention of Lue, the bitches name cutting through the feeling of euphoria Ventia was giving him with her attention.
It was wierd, really. At least for someone like Ivan who never cared for monogamy. He never thought he would mind who his mate slept with, earlier in their relationship, he knew of her relationship with another. He's never been bothered by the idea of having an open relationship or the idea of them sleeping with other people. God knew he hadn't been loyal to Ventia at first.
There was just something about Lue that he couldn't swallow down. He hated her, yet he remained unsure of why he harbored so much hatred. He just did and he wasn't going to try to find reasoning or excuses behind it, either. "I'm not jealous." He snapped a bit angrily, but his tone was more obvious for show and did nothing more than actually prove her right.
With her declaration of love, Ivan met her lips lightly. Kissing her. His grip on her hips tightened and with a light chuckle, he pulled back to look at her. "I wouldn't mind taking a dip inside of you." He said lowly, biting her shoulder lightly before lightening his grip on her. "Which do you prefer? The pool or the lake?"
