(( Lupita)) Thea hated bets. She didn't know why in the world she took on Kenneth's bet. And she extremely loathed how she had lost it so epically. The bet was simple. They were both to attempt to knock and pin the other down in a simple sparring match. Selena had been the referee, keeping the fight fair (considering Thea's bloodlust) as they tried their best to win. If Thea won, Kenneth had to speak like Yoda off of Star Wars for the rest of the week. But if Kenneth won … Thea would have to go on a date with him. He even told her what he planned for them to do and where they were going to go. Two days and nights in the Forrest with nothing but a tent, clothes, necessary survival gear, and rock-climbing equipment. Thea couldn't even bring her phone. She had a tendency to pay more attention to it than others. Thea did her best to win. She swung and kicked and nearly had him pinned. But somehow, he ended up above her with both wrists pinned on either side of her head and one of his knees between her legs. Until he got off her, she was freaking out internally. On the outside she was frozen solid, looking only at her reflection in his pupils. Yep. He won. And now she had a large backpack holding her clothes, hiking boots, and rock climbing equipment. Everything else needed Kenneth was holding within his own backpack. "I still say you cheated," Thea muttered, arms crossed and with a slightly pouty look on her face.

Kenneth was so happy that he had won the bet and he knew that the only reason he had won because of Lena and he and Lena knew Thea would kill the both of them if she knew that her own cousin had helped her lose.
Lena had taught Kenneth ages ago all Lena and Thea's fighting moves. She had trained him well and he was trained by Lu who had trained Lena and Lena had trained Thea. No one knew how to take Thea down better than Lena. Lena knew how much Thea needed this date even if Thea didn't know. So Lena helped Kenneth.
With his win, Kenneth got an uninterrupted weekend with his mate out in the woods with climbing and adventure as he knew his mate wasn't a dinner and a movie kind of girl.
He had his backpack filled with the necessities and he had it slung on his back. He was excited about spending time with Thea, but he was worried about leaving Lena.
"Now you're sure you'll be okay without me this weekend?" Kenneth asked her.
"Yes, I'll be fine. I've pulled Westly from the mission to help and I have my son. It's two days, it won't kill me, you're back Monday morning and you can go back to fussing over me." Lena said to Kenneth.
"Okay well I have the Guild radio-"
"No, gimme."
"But boss-"
"No, it's an uninterrupted weekend. No comms, gimme." Lena ordered and Kenneth gave over his comms equipment reluctantly. "Good boy." Lena said as she turned to her cousin. "Now get out of here you two before I throw you out." Lena chuckled.
Kenneth hugged his boss and kissed her cheek. He was worried about leaving her but he knew that he and Thea needed this.
"Come on T, let's go and I didn't cheat. You lost fair and square." He laughed as he walked out to his off road jeep and got in, putting his Stuff in this back.

Yes, Thea reverted back to how Selena taught her. Though that was only because Timothy's way of teaching was for survival – in other words it was dirty. There was no telling how many times during that sparring match she wanted to kick Kenneth in the groin and continue to kick him while he was down.
Now? She wished she hadn't reverted back to Lena's teachings (which wasn't that much considering Timothy had to spend until two or three in the morning so that she and Darren got just one technique down). She had been blocked or evaded and eventually knocked down. Which in turn led her to follow Kenneth and – sighing in resignation at her epic loss – put the backpack in the back seat.
It was a good thing her mother hadn't planned anything, and won't do so until she got back from her getaway.
"I will still stubbornly say that you did, indeed, cheat," she shot back, yet having no clue that Lena helped Kenneth win. She still had her lips pursed when Kenneth started the Jeep, but she leaned forward to turn the radio on.
"How far is it?" Thea asked, now looking out the window and trying not to enjoy the song playing through the speakers.
Had she been jealous over the fact that Kenneth hugged and kissed Lena? Not particularly. It made her wonder if his affections toward her was caused by a love affair (which isn't uncommon, considering he was her second). But other than that bit of curiosity she didn't care who kissed Ken or vice versa.
She felt her heart twist itself at that thought. Was that jealousy? Her face gave no signs of change in expressions, but on the way there she thought of it. And until Kenneth finally shut the vehicle off she wondered if this potential jealousy was because of the tingles or something else.

Kenneth and Lena would never tell Thea what they had done and so they would never be in trouble. They hoped.
"How could I have cheated?" Kenneth chuckled. "I'd like to hear your reasoning." Kenneth let Thea turn on the radio because it was a long drive. He had been told to take her a long way away and to keep away from the Guild.
"Lena is making us stay at least 20 miles from here and so I found a great woodland hike area about 35 miles from here." Kenneth admitted."We'll be there in about 90 minutes."
For years, just before he met Thea, Kenneth had been in love with Lena. He adored her and wanted to be with her. He had Thea now though and he'd stick with his mate.

"Because …" Thea began, but became too flustered. Honestly she didn't know how Kenneth cheated but she knew he did. No one could just beat her without getting bruises and giving her bruises as well. And the both of them came out with every thing intact. "You just did. I don't have to have a reason." Then she stuck her tongue out in a childish way. "Bite me."
"God," she groaned, rubbing her face with one hand. "Ninety minutes?" Leaning her head back against the headrest, she kicked off her shoes to put her feet on the dashboard. "What are you going to do besides go camping with me? Make an attempt to cut out my cold heart?" An amused laugh escaped her throat. "Leave my body to rot? It's like one of those crime shows."
Did she believe that Kenneth would actually do that? No. She was merely hinting that it was such a long drive that it could be one of the reasons why he chose this place. But she knew that Kenneth wouldn't ever hurt her. At least, she wanted to believe that. Given her history with her family, she was afraid to do so.
"Sigh," she literally said with a sigh. "Fine. Since I'm goig to be stuck in here for an hour and a half, let's play twenty questions." Thea glanced at Kenneth, so that she could gauge his reaction. But then a thought occurred to her.
They only brought one tent. Which means that they'd be sleeping awfully close to each other. She swallowed with difficulty, feeling her heart race just as fast as the thought came. This made her glance quickly away, out the window.
"You can only get two passes. Ready?" But she didn't give him time to respond before firing off her first question. "What's your favorite color?"

Kenneth couldn't help but laugh at Thea's reasoning behind how he cheated. It made him laugh that she couldnt see the obvious way he won. He just shook his head at her and continued on with what he was doing.
"You make it sound like a lifetime." He said. "Try being in a stake out van with Lena and the rest of the heads for 3 days." He told her as he drove. "Like Lena would let me."
It was true, Lena wouldn't let him harm her and he wouldn't do it anyway. He did care for Thea. He was also scared to upset Lena. She still radiated power and strength despite her chair. It was true that Lena protected Thea from the Guild because Thea could be a pain, but as long as Lena liked Thea and wanted her around, Thea was protected. At least as protected as she could be from herself.
Kenneth internally groaned at Thea's feet being on the dash, but he let it slid, this time. Kenneth just shrugged in answer at her idea of playing 20 questions. He didn't mind.
"Blue, yours?"

"That's my mother's favorite color," she said affectionately, smiling at the thought of her. "The color's okay. But green is my favorite. Has been since forever."
Thea reached for the seat adjuster controls, having difficulty finding them at first because she's never been in this vehicle. Though she did find them, thus meaning she leaned the seat back to the point where she was looking up at the ceiling. "And since you already used your turn to repeat my question it is now my turn."
She exaggerated clearing her throat, stretching her arms until she heard her elbow pop. A sound of satisfaction escaped her mouth, and she closed her eyes. "I'm going to admit that I'm a colossal b****, and don't care for the mate tingles at all. So why bother taking me out on this date?"

Kenneth didn't say anything when Thea spoke about her mother because he wanted to stay impartial.
"That's a nice colour." Kenneth said as he drove. Kenneth watched as Thea got comfortable and wished he wasn't driving because she looked comfortable.
"Because we have both been under stress and need uninterrupted time away with no technology."
"Were you always this way?"

Maybe if she were like the rest of the Everett/Quinn clan and did indeed believe tingles were the best thing to being a werewolf, she would want for Kenneth to side with Thea and her mother. That way she wouldn't be the only one to show reason to the bull-headed tingle-worshippers. Though … Kenneth probably only heard Lena's, Lupita's, and Westly's side of the story. If he did so happen to take sides on the matter Thea would bet her left shoe that Kenneth would be with them. That, and Thea believed that it was none of his business anyway. So he had no choice but to be impartial.
Thea made first an agreeing noise, then a derisive snort. "I hope that's not the reason you cheated," she said, turning her body ninety degrees to look at him. She propped her face on her fist, and she raised her eyebrow. "We could easily find 'uninterrupted time away from technology' without doing it together." She turned herself to look back up at the ceiling. "Besides, you wanted to bring a walkie-talkie to this excursion. You can't make up something like that." A shrug of her shoulder ensued before she finished off with, "But I'm not asking for the real reason why, because I'm not wasting my turn on something like that."
His question caught her off guard, and her first reaction was to draw her brows together in befuddlement. "Been what way? A b*tch or a loather of tingles? Because if you want to get technical I've been both all of my life. After all, a b*tch is a female canine." One of her hands blindly reached for the lever to raise her seat up – she wasn't feeling very comfortable anymore.
"I'll even use my turn to ask you to elaborate on your question."

Kenneth knew Thea would be on her mother's side and he had seen what Nate had done to his boss as well as what Thea's mother's department did to Lu and so he had been the one to put Lena back together and keep her from pain and although he would be by Thea's side, he'd keep Lena from any pain and harm.
"We need to spend time together to learn more about each other and get closer to each other." Kenneth chuckled as he drove faster. "That's because I am worried about Lena. I haven't been far from her since the accident and I'm her right hand and I wanted to be reachable if anything happens." Kenneth said with worry in his voice.
"I doubt that. Lena said that you were always against Mates, but weren't such a hard ass. She said that when she found out that she was Nate's true mate, you helped them get together. She said you and her were always close." Kenneth said.
"Ask away"

"I'm her right hand."
She didn't know what about that sentence just rubbed her the wrong way. No, actually, she did. It was hard to explain the jealous, indignant feeling she felt. Though it was there. Thea was Lena's right hand, too (unless she was demoted). And she didn't think of bringing a walkie talkie to their trip. It made her feel as if Kenneth was saying Thea didn't care about Lena.
'D*mmit,' she thought bitterly, crossing her arms and scowling bitterly. Though when he uttered two words, "true mate", she felt a surge of heat tightening her chest. She gave Kenneth a venomous glare, showing him how angry she was by that phrase. She despised the word mate in the first place. Adding an adjective such as that one as if it was a moral sin to not be with someone you feel the tingles for just sent her teetering at the edge.
"My definition of a 'true mate', as you so eloquently put it, is vastly different from yours." Thea lifted her lip in a snarl, which displayed her distaste. "The tingles are, in theory, a good thing. Yet I've seen it just serves as a substitution for real chemistry – a bond that is deeper than physical attraction, like the tingles are focused on. My mother and Nathaniel have that. In shifter society, they may not be considered 'mates'. Though to me, they are more than that.
"And yes, I did help them get together. Yes, Lena and I were close. But then Lena and Lupita and Westly and William and McKinley just HAD to leave without notice." She rolled her eyes, then looked out the window at the passing trees. "Am I still upset that she wasn't looking for me and the hell hole that I was in? Yeah. Just not as much as before, I'll admit. Though it's whatever."
She had the urge to punch something. To break it. Kenneth's nose. The dashboard. The window. Anything. But she had some self-control. And so she could only grit out after a few minutes, "How much longer? I need to get out of this d*mn car."

"Then why have I been there since Lena was put in that wheelchair? Why have I been the one to help her dress? To help her move around? To help her confidence levels? To help her with her therapy? Huh? Where we're you? Lena needed you. She begged for you over anyone for days I heard her, but you were never there." Kenneth said as he parked the car. He was glad that they were here. He could get out too. "A right hand never leaves the boss when they are down for the count. You left for ages. Lena thought you were never coming back."
"Glare all you want but a true mate is what we wolves were built on. It ties our souls together and I believe that if you aren't mates and you're with someone, you're setting your self up for pain." Kenneth said. "I'm going to be honest with you. I don't agree with what your mother did. She broke the family apart for a guy who isn't her mate and you can get pissy like I know you will but I'm allowed an opinion especially when I've seen the pain it's put Lena through. Deep down you didn't want to hurt Lena, but if you tell her you helped get the man she loves with someone else then you'll break her."
"I get that you are hurt about what they did, but if they hadn't had gone you wouldn't have a mother and your grandfather would be after you too. They saved you from another evil."
Kenneth opened the door. "We're here." He muttered as he opened his door and grabbed his pack. He shut the door and started walking. He needed to breathe.
Thea infuriated him in that car. He let his emotions out, but how could he not when he had seen the pain that that man had caused Lena and the fall out that that woman had caused by choosing him over her family. He had no blood family and yet, he'd give up anything to have some. He was more of a right hand to Lena then Thea was, she disappeared and hurt Lena more than she knew but still he knew his boss was blinded by Thea. Kenneth clenched his fists and unclenched and repeated. His feelings were getting the better of him and he wanted nothing more than to talk to Lena so that she could calm him down, but she said no comms.
He breathed deep and thought about what Lena would say to him. 'shes a handful, but try to avoid talk about the family situation. Enjoy the woods.' Her voice filled his head although he knew it wasn't her it was nice to hear her voice even if it was a manifestation. He breathed out calmly and unclenched his fists.
"Let's go. We have a long hike." He called down and continued walking

"First of all, I was gone for three days. Not ages." She held her index finger up, as if starting to count on her hand. "I had pack duties to attend to. The Guild could have handled the Guild without me. After all, I'm pretty sure there's some animosity toward me just for being Lena's cousin." She held up her middle finger next, and she raised her brow. "Secondly, don't lie to me. She didn't beg for me because no one wants my help or attention. I'm a monster. I am of no help to anyone. In fact, it was good that you helped her instead of me. I would have just gotten frustrated.
"And if she really was crying for me?" She narrowed her eyes, and clenched her hand into a fist. "I guess she knows how I felt when I was crying for her."
When he was complaining about how Nate and Jewel destroyed the family, she couldn't help but bark out a harsh laughter. "Although I can't say anything for Nate, I will defend my mother and say the ONLY reason why she went to Paris was for my niece. Penny wanted her to go to watch her. Everyone else wanted for her to be her guide because they didn't know jack sh*t about the city. When she felt the mate bond break she was crying on the phone to me how she didn't mean any of the f*ckiing sh*t she said back in room H3, and that she was defending the man she saw as a friend. If anything Westly was the one to make the family 'fall out'." She curved her fingers as if they were quotation marks around the last two words. After that her hands slapped her thighs and she put her feet down in the floorboard. "Even a week or so after they got back from Paris Ma went nowhere near Nathaniel. Not until the school fire." Kenneth should know what she was talking about; she was at the Guild when it happened and she was literally freaking out over it. Literally in tears. "By the time that happened Westly's relationship with Ariella already flourished and the divorce papers were signed. Otherwise Ma would have come crawling on her hands and knees for forgiveness"
She slammed her feet into her shoes, unlaced them (because she just slipped them off without bothering to unlace them previously), and retied her strings so that she couldn't look at Kenneth. "I had nothing to do with my mother and Nathaniel's getting together. Really, I just wanted her to get with any other guy besides Westly. Though I can't say that I'm not happy for them. And they couldn't pick up a pay phone? 'We're all right. Don't come looking for us. We'll be back soon'? They should have just … done something other than hurt us."
She didn't want to hurt Lena, no. When she first came back Thea did. But it's been a while since she came back into her life. There was an old spark that made her care for Lena. That was why Thea didn't see Lena while she was in a coma. She couldn't bear to see someone she had looked up to while she was younger in a state like that. It made her heart hurt.
When Thea finally realized that the car had stopped, she too took a deep breath in. She let it out in a growl, having no manifestation of language to calm her down. As soon as she got her pack strapped onto her back she slammed her door shut. Anger still fueled her steps, and because of this she eventually ate up the distance between her and him. "Let's hope it's not too far," she snapped out.

"You were gone for much longer." Kenneth said. "You were gone so long that Lu took over the Guild, locked you out and Lena was in intense therapy." Kenneth said. "If you don't believe that she cried for you and asked where you were then you don't know Lena."
"Wow, you can really hold a grudge. She helped save your mother. Remember that."
"That bond broke because like it has been said before if you fall in love with someone other than your partner then you never loved your partner because you don't fall in love with someone else when you truly love the first person." Kenneth said as he walked. "Westly deserved happiness after all he did to save a woman who loved another more. He did all he could and it just wasn't enough. Why should he suscept himself to that much pain and suffering when she was never going to love Westly like she should have. He was hurting and he needed to get away from the source of the pain." Kenneth explained. "Lu was okay with jewel going off and coming back calm but the moment she chose Nate, Lu was angry and helped Westly move on. Jewel could have had her family but she threw them away. If your mother hadn't run away then she could have still had her family but she threw them away like they were nothing. I have no family! I'd give anything to have a family and your mother just throws away the biggest family ever because she couldn't handle or help her sister when her daughter was dying."
Kenneth hiked up the hill and through some dense trees. "They had no phones, were on the move all the time and if they had called your mother they were afraid their loved ones would come to find them and they didn't want to risk anyone else getting hurt." Kenneth said. "They wouldn't tell me where they were. They didn't mean to hurt you, save you yes, not hurt and Lena has tried to make it up to you so has Lu, but nothing seems good enough for little miss Thea. If you knew your grandfather and what he was like, you'd know that they protected you from the worst man alive."
Kenneth clicked his neck and breathed out before walking on. "The view is worth it."

"My pack and I could have saved my mother." And that was that. Her mind was focused on other things.
"She was more than willing to try to love him as much as she used to." She stopped in her tracks, hearing a harsh ringing in her ears and feeling her face heat up. "And she did go off and calmed down. She was watching my niece's performance and guided the entourage around Paris. When she came back the papers were filed and Westly had a new mate and Lupita believed Ma went to elope with Nate. Which. Never. Happened. My mother didn't choose because she never had a choice. She was forced out of her family because they were ass-hurt and jumped to the conclusion that her week in Paris had everything to do with Nate. DID I NOT SAY SHE STAYED AWAY FROM HIM EVEN AFTER SHE WAS NO LONGER MRS. QUINN?!"
The loudness of her voice startled even her. The birds flew out of their nests and the nearby deer scattered to the next green pasture over. She took a step back, eyes wide and mouth agape before she rubbed her hands over her face as she laughed harshly once more.
"Neither Lupita or Westly has said a d*mn nice word to me since they got home, let alone try to re-establish their relationships with me. Lena was the only one there. The only one that apologized. The only one in that f*cking fluffy room as those drugs drained out of my system. Forgive me if I'm not thankful for my aunt and father as I am toward Selena." Thea dropped her hands, still shaking with unadulterated rage, so that she could glance at Kenneth. "Even though I still hold a grudge, I am glad Lena is here again.
"And as for the 'evilest man alive' bit … he's not a human that held dozens of shifters hostage to fight to the death and make a profit out of it. So I don't even want to hear it."
Thea was silent after that, her limping gait giving her the lead on the hike at first. Though after a bit, her hip started hurting her. The rough jostling due to the rough terrain caused the sharp jolt of pain to go through her side every time she stepped. It slowed her angry power-walk down to a deterred shuffle. She winced every time she stepped with her bad leg, though other than that she didn't say anything. "Mmm," she grunted.
She was too busy with her limp to notice the view.
