"You're nieve if you believe that. Do you really know nothing of the man your grandfather was? But then again why would you? Your precious mother was saved at 16 and constantly by Lu. You know nothing about that man." Kenneth said as he pushed himself to get higher.
"No, she wasn't. She was with West because she felt guilty. It wasn't love anymore, it was guilt for falling for another." Kenneth said as he stopped in his tracks and turned around to stare down at her. "And if she hadnt ran off with her tail between her legs because she can't handle the pain she caused then she wouldn't have caused more." Kenneth scoffed at Thea's outburst. "You done? Scream all you want. It doesn't change the fact that your mother is selfish. She chose a man who wasn't hers to love and broke two hearts in the process. She didn't think about the pain Lu was going through and instead ran off. At least Lu protects people and her family. I'd do the same thing." Kenneth hiked up higher after his speech and just chuckled at Thea's childish screaming.
"You pushed them away and shot at them. Lena had no one to fight for unlike Westly and Lu, Lena wanted you. So yeah, maybe Lena is the only one who cares for you, but at least she cares and yet, you continue to hurt her."
This time Kenneth chuckled. "Oh honey, Graham has done much, much worse than that little tidbit, much worse and you were spared it by a family who loved you."
Kenneth shook his head at her and took a right at the top of the hill. He went up some land made steps and the took a left towards another hill.

Thea didn't argue after that.
Why?
There were no words to describe how … angry … how hurt she was. Was she angry at him for calling her mother – one of the most selfless people she knew – a selfish person that "ran away"? Most definitely. You don't just trash-talk someone Thea loved, no matter what had happened. That's like poking a bear with a stick when it's trying to sleep.
Though she was more hurt than anything. She wasn't expecting for those words … Thea wasn't supposed to care about if anyone cared for her. Wasn't supposed to care if she was hurting anybody – because she had been hurt and wanted for people to feel how she felt.
Kenneth's words made her see that she did. And she didn't like it. Not one bit.
It wasn't due to the fact that she wanted to be heartless. Thea just has a hard time showing what she felt. Not only that, but she didn't want to be hurt again. Inside that tough exterior she was just a broken soul trying to heal herself. Or kill herself. Who knows? Only a select few saw that part.
Iggy, Nate, Timothy, Darren, and her mother. Those were the only people that actually see it.
It doesn't help that Kenneth actually LAUGHED when she unwittingly exposed her captor. And proceeded to tell her that her late grandfather was a worse man than the Ringmaster. Weren't mates supposed to be loving and all that good jazz? Kenneth should have tried to pry and say that she's still alive and stuff.
Not freaking laugh at her!
That was what hurt the most, really. She did care that no one but Lena cared, though not as much as Kenneth laughing at her. ANYONE laughing at her. She couldn't bear it. All her life she wanted to be respected. And at least in her hell hole people didn't ridicule her.
Thea didn't stop to think twice as she took off her back pack (the dang thing was heavy as all get out) so that she could bend down and pick up a rock. Next she threw the rock at his head.
She would have tackled him, had it not been for her weak leg slowing her down. He was a good distance above her on that hill. This didn't deter her from hurting him. She had no qualms with hurting him because he was a freaking jerk.
"You b*st*rd!" She bent to pick up another rock and throw it at his head. "You just reminded me why I hate men!" Another rock. "Congratu-f*cking-lations!" Another. "If you're my 'true mate' then I'd rather be a nun!" Another. "And do you know how hard it is to become a devout religious person when you don't believe in God or any other Devine beings?" This time she threw a stick, because she ran out of rocks that were in her vicinity. "Pretty d*mn hard!"
She threw her hands up in the air in disgust, a large lump in her throat making it difficult to breathe. Still yet she was hyperventilating while she was zipping open her back pack for her Guild card.
She didn't expect to be leaving the excursion on such short notice. Thea wanted to go back though. Where she can finally give proof to Selena that Kenneth was like most of the men she's met so far. She didn't care if she was lost.
"Don't come anywhere near me, you little f*cking f*cker. F*ck, I can't find it!" After searching frantically for the card, she gave up. She couldn't stand it anymore. She'd just have to have Lena buzz her in.
What Thea wouldn't do to have a joint right at this moment. All of a sudden she missed the weed's relaxing quality.
"I'm going back to the Guild!"

Kenneth decided that no matter what he said, he wouldn't get through to Thea. She was blinded by idiotic loyalty to a woman that doesn't deserve it when she could have stood by the side of the person who taught her to fight when no one else would. He could say what he wanted, he had an opinion and he wasn't going to sit around and keep listening to Thea go on and on about a woman who Kenneth had deep feelings against. That woman needed to be taken down a peg, but she's not a saint. She's selfish and only thinking of herself not her family especially not Lena.
Yes, Kenneth was her mate, but he knew Thea didn't need lovey-dovey crap, she needed to see reality and see sense. She needs to see what has happened around her and what it means. She was living in a bubble and so Kenneth broke it, better him than another. She needed to see how much pain and suffering she had put Lena through and how Lena had taken it because she wanted Thea more than the pain.
Thea needed to stop living in the past of her captors and focus on the now. She was safe and had a chance at a new life, but she just loved to live in the past and Kenneth was sick of her pushing the past, he was pulling her into the future and yes, showing her a side of him he never wanted to, but she wants to act like a bitch then he can be a right bastard back.
Kenneth's senses were keen, keener than others and so when she dropped her pack, he stopped and when she threw the rock, he moved. He dropped his pack and sighed at her. 'Petulant Child'.
"No, I reminded you of reality, of the present and the truth behind how you've acted recently and you can't handle it. You can't handle how much pain and hurt you've caused the one person who cares about you above all else. The one person who got you off the drugs, who made you better and was there when others weren't. You can't handle the fact that you helped a selfish woman get what she wants at the expense of the woman who saved your life over and over again." Kenneth growled back. "I'm the only one to make you see sense and that's what I am doing. Look at yourself, having a tantrum in the middle of nowhere like a kid. I know you never wanted a mate, but as your mate I'm going to pull you out of the past. I've tried the nice way, now I'm giving you a kick up the ass." Kenneth took the chance to ran up to her when she was searching for her Guild pass.
He grabbed both her arms and pulled her towards him to stare her in the eyes. "We're in the middle of nowhere, with only my car, which opens to my voice and fingerprint. Now listen to me, Lena loves you, more than anyone, more than she ever loved that fucker Nate, believe me on that and you need to see the pain you caused her by leaving and by deserting her when you were all she wanted. You need to see the pain you caused and you need to leave the past where it belongs, in the past, or you'll drag it like a weight of chains. I know it hurts to see the pain, but it's the pain of the present not the past. See it! See how much Lena has helped you, all she has given you and all she has done for you and think about how you've treated her in return. Your harsh words, your constant coming and going, you not being there when she is in pain. See the present, Thea. Forget the past because I can't stand by and watch as you hurt Lena over and over again." Kenneth said to her softly. "I don't want to be this asshole to you, but you need to hear some home truths. Just look at Lena and how she is, how have you helped her since she was in that chair? Pushed her back into the station that put her in that chair, caused fights with her mother and then not been around. Has Lena ever caused a fight with your mother? She helped save her life at the cost of her own and the cost of her mate. She loves you, Thea, can't you see that? If you can't and you refuse to start moving on then I'll happily drive you back, but I won't see Lena in pain, not anymore, she has enough." Kenneth said his speech and then stood back.

"Don't touch me."
She froze in her spot, only moving forward because she was pulled forward. Her eyes met his for a brief moment or so before she looked away. Her body literally shook with rage and hurt. The lump in her throat threatened to loosen, and her vision became blurry. The pain in her hip wasn't helping a bit.
"Shut up," she muttered between clenched teeth, afraid that if she opened her mouth any more than that the sobs would burst forth. The more he spoke the more prominent of an image of him broken and bloody became. He … just wouldn't stop talking!
She didn't stand to hear how she was hurting Lena. She couldn't. She believed that no one would want her company enough to be upset f she wasn't there. After all, she was a monster, who killed her own kind – she knew she was because, like Timothy (her mentor), there was a deep passion for death and violence. It awoke when she was riding on the Emotions Roller-coaster. And now that there was someone … she was hurting them.
How … she vowed that she would be there for her family as much as possible, because most of the people she once considered family wasn't. And to be honest she was more concerned for the woman who gave birth to her rather than the people who left her. Because – let's face it – she still held a grudge over that. Might as well call her the world's best grudge-holder.
Though Lena did (still does) try to make it up to her.
She wanted to defend herself, saying her long periods of absence was because first and foremost her loyalty stayed with her pack. She was a pack warrior, for Pete's sake. Of course she was going to take care of her pack when her pack was there for her when she needed them.
She wanted to ask how in the world was she supposed to help her handicapped cousin when Kenneth was doing all the work. The one to go through therapy and massage her legs. She guessed that the title of right-hand went to him anyway.
She wanted to demand like the "petulant child" she was why was she getting the heat for picking fights when Lupita started it first.
But she couldn't. She was about to bawl. Bawl tears of frustration, mostly, because she still wanted to hurt this D-bag. Though she would be crying for no reason. What seemed like to her was no reason because she had walls, dang it! They can't just tumble down.
That was how she survived.
She didn't know what compelled her to do it. Just moments before she wanted to go back to the Guild. To tell Selena that she absolutely hated Kenneth and was about to "tell her so" that Kenneth was like all the rest. Though after she jerked her arms violently out of his grasp, she bent down to sling her pack across her shoulders.
Not one tear fell as she trekked back up that hill.

Kenneth hated that he had to tell her this home truth, but he had been there, he'd seen what was going on and he'd seen the truth behind what Thea was capable of. He had been told how Thea was before and he hated that she was like this now. He understood now why most people couldn't be around her - she's too difficult to be around and she pushes people away, which is something Kenneth had been on the receiving end of. He had to admit that there were times that he wanted to turn away from Thea, but Lena helped him to see the real Thea and she pushed him to give Thea a chance because they both needed each other, at least that is what Lena would say.
He didn't listen to her when she spoke because she wasn't talking like she used to because Kenneth hoped he was finally getting through to her. He had just snapped at her and he had just decided that she needed to learn the truth and the truth was, she was hurting Lena every day and the only person who truly 1000% trusted Thea, believed in Thea and wanted Thea around all the time was Lena.
He didn't know what she was going to do or what she was going to say, but when she picked up her pack and started trekking again, even he was surprised. He didn't say anything while he walked behind her and picked up his pack at the same time.
At the top of the hill he put his pack down and grabbed a protein bar to have a snack. He had some water and pulled out the chairs. "Let's rest." Kenneth said. They had walked a good few miles up a massive hill. It wasn't where Kenneth wanted them to be, but it would work for now. Where they would be camping was another few miles up and had a better view.

Since Kenneth was behind her, he could plainly see everything. How she would occasionally raise her hands toward her face, and then swipe them furiously on her pants. How her pack jostled precariously every other time she took a step. The occasional ankle-roll. And every time it did she would say her favorite F-word under her breath before continuing on.
When they got on top of that hill, she realized why she picked that pack up again. Selena was always adamant about them being together, Kenneth and Thea. (It was a surprise that Kenneth survived this long in her presence. But then again Thea wasn't the only receiving end of Lena's "You should be together" spiels.) And if Thea had gone back to the Guild by herself, with fire-like murder in her eyes Selena would be disappointed and stressed out.
She didn't … couldn't have that. The reason why she was still with this jack hole was because of Selena.
There was still a lump in her throat, yet it wasn't as bad as before. She didn't protest them resting, all of it having to do with the fact that she didn't want to open her mouth. It wasn't because her hip was acting up or she wanted for them to continue. So she slammed her pack down on the ground (it was unintentional, her "petulant child"-like behavior already passed) before she sat and leaned back in the foldable chair. She closed her red-tinged eyes, a scowl on her hardened face as she rested her hand against her forehead.
It was then, after her anger was syphoned from her, she felt her old wound pounding to the best of her heart. This caused an irritated sigh to leave her mouth, followed by "d*mmit". She didn't eat anything, or drink anything. Though she did acknowledge her company. "I'm only doing this for her."

Kenneth did see all of this and he left sorry for her in the sense that he knew about her physical issues, but he also didn't feel bad because at least he kind of got through to Thea and all of this swearing and moving around was just her way of getting through the issues that Kenneth had raised. He didn't care that she was irriate or that she would probably take her anger out on him eventually because he rather it were him than Lena. Lena couldn't and wouldn't argue or fight back.
It was true, Lena did want Thea to have a shot at happiness because Lena never got that. She got it taken from her and she got hurt and she didn't want anyone else to feel what she felt or go through what she went through. She was a family woman and the man she had loved, yes she had hurt, but had then turned his back on her and ran into the arms of another woman and not just any woman, her so-called Aunt.
Kenneth just sighed as he sat in his seat and tried not to roll his eyes at how much of a child Thea was acting like. She might not have meant to come off like that, but that's how she was acting in his eyes. The truth hurts and Thea deserved the hurt she got from the truth Kenneth laid on her.
"Aren't we both?" Kenneth asked. "Who do you think pushed me into making that bet? Who do you think helped me win? Who do you think taught me all your moves? Who knows you best?" Kenneth asked as he rested back in his seat. "She takes care of you, more than you know." Kenneth told her. Kenneth breathed in the cool, crisp air and enjoyed the nature around them.

"I knew it."
At Kenneth's reveal, she wished she could get up out of this chair. Right then she wanted nothing more than to – at the very least, because she believed that if she killed him Lena would take an eye for an eye – see him in a bloody heap, barely holding onto life as he begged her forgiveness. Though she couldnt. She was having trouble leaning forward to push out of the chair, much less getting up to rip him apart.
She was left to laugh in a low voice, bitter as she rubbed her forehead with her hand. Thea finally knew how Kenneth cheated. Not only that, but light was brought to the fact that Lena had to coax Kenneth into betting with Thea. He didn't want to go on a date – it should have been evident how he wanted to bring a dad gum comm to the trip.
She wasn't sure, but Thea could have sworn she felt something start aching within her chest. No, she never wanted a mate. So she should be happy that the man in front of her reciprocated the feeling – at least, for her. It sounded so hypocritical, but in her defense it all had to do with the dang tingles.
"If I could get out of this chair I would beat your sorry a**." It was said with a tremor in her voice. It wasn't out of sadness, but of anger. "But I can't. So at least you can live another day." After that she let loose a low, short growl. "When are we leaving? I want to get there so that we can hurry up to get home."

Kenneth let out a low laugh at the fact that Thea hadn't figured it out beforehand, but then she hadn't seen the damage and the pain that she had been causing Lena up to now, so he wasn't all that surprised that she hadn't seen the pain she had caused. He did want to be on this date, but when Lena first suggested it, he didn't want to because he didn't want to leave Lena and that was evident from the comms, but it didn't mean that he didn't want to spend time with Thea and get to know her.
The thing is, Kenneth knew his past was dark, horrid and something no one should know about and he didn't want Thea to find out about his past because if she did, he felt sick to his stomach at the idea of what she would say. He felt that she might be okay with his past, but he didn't want to risk it and he didn't want to tell it. He was shocked he was even graced with a mate after his horrid past and when he got Thea, he knew it was the Gods way of punishing him for the shit he did by giving him such a difficult mate.
"No, you wouldn't because you wanted the truth and I've given it." Kenneth said. "But -" He said as he stood up from the chair. "Don't get me wrong, I want to be on this date, it's just I wish the timing was better, but then as Lena said, there is never a good time in our line of work. And I am very glad that Lena gave me a cheat sheet." Kenneth chuckled as he packed away. "Come on then, grumpy, let's go." He smiled as he started to walk up the hill and past a few more trees, higher up they went.
Kenneth climbed and climbed up the hill, this one less steeper and he sometimes used trees to pull himself up. He took some water every time he got a little parched and he passed a few woodland creatures, not paying much attention, he was more focused on getting to their destination. He finally got to the top of this hill and up here the earth was flatter with lush greenery all around.
Kenneth walked further and then over to a clearing just a few hundred yards from the edge of the hill. There was a wide patch of grass with trees circling the area like a horseshoe allowing Kenneth to see out past the cliff edge and over the horizon. You could see all the greenery and lush trees in the distance. You could see the birds flying around and the clear sky up here. Kenneth placed his pack down and started to set to work on the tent. He pulled out all of the bits and pieces and started to put them together.
He was done 10 minutes later and he set up his chair and sleeping bag. He put his pack in the tent and sat down in his chair, resting, watching the world go by.

"Whatever you say, Kenneth," she muttered. The reason why she wasn't out of that chair was because she felt in physical pain every time she moved. Not because of Kenneth's "truth-telling". Though she was too exhausted (and did she mention in pain?) to do much. Needless to say she groaned in protest when he said for them to move again.
She was glad that they finally got to their destination. For those ten minutes she leaned heavily against a tree, and watched Kenneth. Thea couldn't help it; his movements mesmerized her. Well, mesmerized was a strong word. It was more like, she was curious. How can one person put up a tent in ten minutes?
Apparently he can.
She didn't move from her spot until he was sitting for a good amount of time. When she did she was limping heavily to the open flap of the tent. First she took her pack down off her back. After that she unrolled her sleeping bag (a thick, green thing that made her look like a caterpillar), unzipped the pack's zipper to bring out her favorite pillow, and slowly and steadily moved to settle in.
"I'm taking a nap."
***
Thea woke a few hours later, groggily and with a protesting stomach. It was night out already, even though she had only been asleep for a few hours. Her eyesight was fuzzy, and as she blinked it away she called out, "Kenneth." Because she literally smelled him all around her. Sitting up slowly, she rubbed her eyes and let out a yawn that made her mouth look more like a black hole. "What's for supper?"

Kenneth let Thea sleep, realizing that the hike that they just did was probably tiresome on her and hurt her especially in her hip. Kenneth knew that she needed to rest and they probably needed time apart to just cool off. A lot of things were said and a lot of home truths were admitted and he knew that if they spent a lot of time together they'd probably be at each other's throats. He watched as she went into the tent and he shifted into his wolf to go and get dinner.
He ran through the woods at the top of the hill and he stalked a few prey. He decided on a few rabbits for a stew. He'd brought a bunch of veg, a pot, a burner and plates. He stalked and he hunted and by the end of his work out/hunt, he had three rabbits. He took them back to the clearing and found a small stream to wash them off. He shifted back and skinned them before chopping up into bits. He took the meat he wanted back to the tent and the bits he didn't he left for the other animals.
He used some bottled water and put that in the pot with some chopped up vegetables and the seared rabbit meat bits he'd just cooked. He placed them in the pot with some seasoning and flavoring before putting the lid back on top to let it stew. He stirred the pot every so often and he'd check to see how it was tasting. It was almost done by the time Thea woke up and came out of the tent.
"Rabbit stew." Kenneth said as he stirred the pot again. "Wanna taste?" He asked as he pulled the wooden spoon out of the pot with some of the juices on the spoon. He placed his hand under the spoon and held it out to Thea.

Since she had slept – and therefore wasn't moving as much – her healing ability finally worked on her pained hip. Granted, she was still limping. Though it wasn't as bad as earlier. And! She can honestly say that she slept off her hunger. At least, Thea didn't want to rip Kenneth to pieces anymore.
Still she had a routine to do – yoga and meditation for her!
"I'm glad you thought of stuff to cook with. And apparently a cleaning knife," she said genuinely, moving the flap out of the way so she could see where she was stepping. Otherwise we'd have to eat raw meat. It's not as good as seasoned meat."
She sat down on the ground, too lazy to bring her own chair out of the tent. When the spoon was in her sight she raised a brow at him. "You really willing to feed me after what happened earlier?" she half-joked, before raising a hand to steady his wrist.
Thea didn't even react to the tingles anymore. She touched Kenneth on a daily basis, so she was used to it. Did she like it? No. She didn't think she'd ever will. Despite their short fuses? Thea learned to stand Kenneth. It would be weird if she didn't feel these things she abhorred.
Gently, she blew on it before taking the bite. She didn't blow on it enough. So in succession she screwed her face in discomfort, swallowed quickly, and clutched her chest as the hot liquid went down to her stomach. "Oooh," she groaned, then relaxed her face. "It's good," she admitted truthfully.
Leaning back, she stared into the orange flames in front of her. "Do you know what makes two shifters to have tingles?" she suddenly asked. "A scientific or possibly a mystical reason? Or if they ever recede? I've never been told these answers."

Kenneth could see that Thea was a bit more relaxed now, which relaxed him more too and calmed him down. He didn't feel like he was about to lose his head. He kept his focus on the food though and he then stared up at Thea.
"I'm more than just a pretty face." Kenneth joked. "I used to live in the woods before...before the Underground." Kenneth admitted about his past.
"Sure, if I kill you Lena will kill me." Kenneth smiled when she liked the food. He was good at cooking for himself and off of the land.
"I heard a story once, I think my mother told it to me. She said that many years ago, humans were made in pairs, but the Gods grew jealous at how much love and attachment these two people had together, so they'd split them up and make it hard for people to find one another. Humans obviously don't feel tingles like us, but they do get a butterfly sort of feeling when close to their other half, the other half of their soul. Werewolves, because we are essentially built on magic, get tingles to help us even more and help us to tie our souls to others. The part of the soul that binds us can be swapped and moved when the physical body isn't compatible."

Thea took a glance at Kenneth, then raised a brow. "The Underground." It was followed by a "Hmm". She brought her hand up so that she could look at it. At her bitten fingernails. "Sounds like an occult or something. Or a club. I'd ask what happened for you to speak so sullenly. Though you seem to be the type of person to shut people down." She put her and back down, satisfied that her nails hadn't grown out since the last time she's gotten annoyed with them.
She was curious. Yet, concerned at the same time. Kenneth isn't the type of person to just stop in the middle of his sentence and then pick it back up. It must have been something serious for him to hesitate like that. Like he was afraid to say it.
She stayed quiet, (snorting in amusement at Kenneth's killing comment) only speaking when she didn't really understand something. "So shifters were born in pairs, too," she started, drawing her brows together. "And why would gods be jealous of that? They're gods." She said the word with so much emphasis as if the word itself was the definition. "And tying something insubstantial like souls together seems rather … weird." A shake of her head later she was asking a question that got to her. "What do you mean when the physical body isn't compatible? Like how a wolf and a cat are supposed to be mates?"
Leaning back to where her back was on the forest floor, she gave a sigh. "Cute story though."

Kenneth didn't want to say what his life was like just before the Guild. It wasn't something that he ever wanted to tell. The Underground was not a place he wanted Thea ever to go to and if Lu and Lena hadn't told her then he wouldn't.
"It's...not a place you should know about and it's true, I'll never tell you about my past." Kenneth said as he finished the stew. He poured it into two bowls. He handed one of them to Thea and a spoon.
"The Gods got jealous because they didn't have soul mates." Kenneth said as he started to eat. "Well you can't attack other parts of people together and by physical looks I mean like when Mates reject each other due to how they look or other stuff. The mates part of the soul go to another and things get switched around." Kenneth explained.
