(( Jewel I'm so sorry I made this super dupeeeer late!!)) -Tak tak tak!- Jailean groaned, slipped her pillow from under her head, and threw it at the window. A small thud resonated throughout the room followed by a feint, startled fluttering that quickly disappeared from hearing within seconds. She sighed, closed her eyes slightly more tightly, and felt her head against the soft mattress of the bed she laid at. For a few seconds she smiled, nibbling lightly on her lower lip, suddenly shooting up awake. -Tak tak tak!- Her eyes opened wide, bloodshot red, her mouth twisted in clear annoyance as she looked out the window at a bird. That. Fucking. Bird. Her hands clenched as the bird suddenly stopped pecking at the window. She looked at it without blinking, a stare that would have set it on fire had she had the power, and for a second, the bird jumped back just a little and looked right back at her. They stared at each other, her with the blanket halfway up her leg with the other half almost on the floor, her white shirt bunched up near her waist. The bird, beautiful as it was, with its small wings the color of the blue sky and red blood, snapped in a sort of jittery movement its head to the left and then to the right, as if it was studying Jailean. Jailean, on the other hand, huffed, and raised an accusing finger in its direction. "Oh. Don't you dare." She narrowed her eyes as the tiny bird stared back. Had Jailean been hallucinating again, she would have seen an evil grin on its stupid bird-like face as it suddenly took one small hop to the window. "Do. Not!" Jailean got up -Tak!- ran for the window, the pecking against the glass getting louder and faster, three more times in quick succession -Tak tak tak!!- before the windows flew open, the bird's wings fluttering, lifting it away as it flew towards the forest. " "I will burn the tree you live in!" she yelled at the top of her longs, sticking her body out the window, before closing her eyes at the unforgiving glare of the sun. She slowly sunk her way back inside her room and closed the glass window panes, turning a tiny latch to lock them from the inside. She looked to her right, then her left, and cracked her neck in two different places, suddenly feeling relieved from a stiffness that had formed overnight from the awkward positions at which she tended to sleep. She got herself ready as soon as she could, not exactly looking the most presentable but at the same time not seeming as if she were total trash either. Her hair she tied up into a tight bun to the back of her head; her white shirt she changed into a looser, and more importantly, cleaner green shirt she hadn't worn in a while, and rather than the shorts that she had intended to wear when she first woke up, a thought that usually crosses her mind at the most random and irrelevant of moments, she instead opted to put on a pair of jeans that fit her just right. She'd get more than enough mobility out of them and didn't mind getting them dirty. Slipping into a pair of black sandals, she closed her computer screen left on overnight, not even bothering to make up her bed, for she knew she was late, and closed the door to her room with a lock. She never was one to trust anyone around herself to not get into her room, not in this life and not in her previous life. It didn't take her long to get to Leo's office. She hadn't actually been there that many times, maybe once or twice when he told her to meet him there rather than the usual area outside. She knew the way to it, knew what the door looked like, and actually just found herself standing outside of his office for a few short seconds, levitating the key to her room just a few inches above the palm of her hand, rotating it with twitches of the tips of her fingers before finally she raised her hand and knocked hard on the door five times, dropping her key into her back pocket. "Hey, Leo, I'm late!" she called out, a small smile beginning to form on her face, despite her attempts to fight it. "I want to say I'm sorry, cause you know, I told you I'd be here early, but part of me isn't. There's a stupid bird that keeps pecking at my window waking me up!" She huffed and looked around. Thankfully there was nobody else around, otherwise her face would have lit up red in shame. The thought of that made her blush ever so slightly. It quickly went away. She shook her head softly from side to side. "I'm here to talk about the thing I said last night. Can I come in?" She took a small step back away from the door and waited.

He had slept in his office.
Leo fully intended to sleep in his own bedroom, for sure. But when he walked through his front door the smell of Nadia (Or was her name Nahlia?) was so strong he had to step out. It woke something deep within him that he's tried to suppress for a long time. Why was it suppressed?
His pride would hate him even more if it wasn't.
Leo had called the woman's parents to his house, and told them to get her out of his room - of course, without waking Jailean - as quickly as possible. He didn't even dare go back to his room after that, knowing that her being in heat will get him into such an aroused state that it wouldn't go away without relief. And Leo was the type of man that would not like it when he didn't get what he wanted.
He would be just as bad as the man that he saved Jailean from.
So instead of being that man, he had kicked off his shoes and leaned back in the chair for the night. If Jailean listened closely before knocking on the door, she could hear chainsaw-worthy sounds that showed how tired Leo was from the night before. Leo did not mind at all that she was late, because he was sleeping in himself.
In fact, Jailean was the one to wake him up.
His eyes opened blearily, and to get the bluriness from his eyes he rubbed the heels of his hands roughly against them. He took one deep breath in, then released it in a yawn. He was still bare-chested, with the paint he had on last night still bold against his rather tan skin. He opened the door just a crack, at first not remembering their small conversation last night, but at the sight of the sparkle of life in the woman's eyes had him recalling it.
"You are too chipper," he mumbled groggily before opening the door wider and turning her back on her to walk back toward his desk. "I guess you can come in though."

Patiently waiting, she smiled slightly as the door slowly parted open a tiny bit, her eyes immediately scanning for any hint of life from beyond the other side. Of course she knew he was alive, she just couldn't quite make out his eyes despite knowing that he could see her. Jailean blinked once, stretching out her arm from left to right until a satisfying pop resonated in her ear, just as the door swung wider apart. Her eyebrow perked up at his comment, her head shaking softly from side to side as she followed in behind him. "Well, at least one of us needs to be the slightly more cheerful one of the bunch."
Her comment came out low but Jai topped it with a soft chuckle as she nudged the door to his office closed behind herself. This moment between him having his back to her she took to take in a deep breath and have a look around herself, making quick yet careful notes of whatever it was that made his office his. Nothing really stood out to her as being exceptional or strange, for some reason having expected to see something... Unhuman. At the very least something that would further drive home the needle stating that, hey, she was in a very different place from what she had grown up as.
The majority of the human population was not even aware of the existence that she had been thrust upon. That thought in itself has forced her to have more than one sleepless night. It took her a while. "I like your office," she said in a soft, respectful tone, "I find it to be very... Hmm... Dapper?" She smiled slightly. "I don't know the word for it and dapper sounded nice. Take that however you want."
Jailean paced a little to the left, tracing her left hand against the wall, feeling its surface with her thin fingers as her head looked up at the ceiling, then down at the floor, taking one last glance around the entirety of the room, before finally her gaze fell upon Leo. It was almost easy to avoid looking at anything but his face, or so she tried to fool herself with. "Well then, down to business, shan't we?" She clasped her hands and tilted her head ever so slightly to the right, in thought. Her two hands rubbed together before moving down to her sides. "Why don't you start? Have you given thought on what I told you last night?"
She couldn't help but bite her lip, her final sentence coming out slightly duller than the others after having realized that he did not seem like the best morning person in the world.

Leo's office looked like any normal office, aside from the fact that the far back wall was nothing but glass. It wasn't particularly unhuman. Though, like any good cat, he liked to take sunbaths. In fact, there wasn't anything in the room to make it look ... lived in. There was a lack of pictures on his desk and walls; the only thing on the black top was his computer monitor and keyboard; and there was one filing cabinet.
It was ... dapper. But very lonely as well.
"It is a rather strange word," Leo said gruffly, moving around his desk to throw his weight into the computer chair. Due to this, he went back a few centimeters, before the carpet caught the back wheels and he nearly tumbled backward into the floor. He grunted in surprise, feeling wide awake now. But to his relief he caught the edge of the desk and steadied himself.
The perks of having cat-like reflexes.
As if that didn't just happen, he cleared his throat professionally. He did the manly version of crossing his legs (putting one bare ankle on a jeans-clad knee) and steepled his fingers before setting them down on his calf. "I guess we shall," he mocked her, smirking a bit. Then ... he thought a bit.
No, to be honest he didn't give much thought to it - what with one of his pride trying to get into his pants (as the youngsters like to say) and before that having actually enjoyed himself at the party. The thoughts just ... went over his head. But he couldn't necessarily say that to Jailean, could he? Not just about the whole excuses - well, he didn't want to give the reason that he was too ... bothered to give thought to Jailean - but because he would let her down. Whatever species she was, Leo broke tradition and pride law to let her stay in this pride. She had any and every right that her new family had, and that included the Alpha's attention, care, and protection.
Knowing that he screwed up and let her wants as a pride member go unchecked was making him feel something that he's never really felt before ... that he's only felt once, and that was when he beat his sister nearly to death. Guilt. And Leo didn't like the feeling. Plus, he didn't want to see Jailean's face when he told her that he let her down. Didn't want to see the crestfallen face of a disappointed family member (and that was what the pride was - a family). He didn't want for Jailean to think illy of him, like everyone else did.
"Well ..." he said briefly before trailing off into a yawn. "How much can you lift? You know ... with your power?"

She caught on to the smirk but... Pretended not to, rather looking here and there every once in a while. His office was oddly silent, so was her room. Perhaps it was because not that much foot traffick was going on about within the building, or maybe she just wasn't noticing other noises. To her the silence was nice and it let her concentrate for a few moments, thinking to herself. "How much I can lift you say?" She pursed her lips, scratching the side of her head softly. "Hm..." She hadn't really given it much thought to begin with. She just... Lifted things, small things for that matter, but things nonetheless. "I... Am going not gong to be able to lift anything big," she began softly.
"There are certain... Hm... How do I put it... There are certain mental and physical barriers to this. By my best guess? Twenty-five to fifty-pounds, and that's maybe pushing it. I won't be throwing things as fast as I do, say, pieces of glass or maybe that fork. But I guess that's common sense, isn't it, the bigger the object the more force I'll have to exert upon it." She thought for a second. "I guess it's kind of like the human muscles and arms now that I think about it. You can throw a small ball, say, a couple dozen meters with ease. But a bowling ball is much harder to throw a far distance. Yeah,Chou could put it that way."
She thought for a second or two. "I guess my powers are more supplementary, meant to be done with other things rather than have them act upon themselves. For example, if I was, say, doing a little hand to hand combat," smiling, she raised her fists and awkwardly punched at the air, "I could use my powers to cheat so that I can take a hard object from behind them and hit them to the back of the head. Distraction. I win. They lose." She smiled a little more. "Stuff like that, get me?"

"I see."
He let the silence on his end drag until it became unbearable for her. Because, why not? All the while, as he tapped one thumb against the other, he thought of what she said. He had been amused to see her awkward fighting stance, and a brief thought formed at the back of his head while she did it was: "I need to teach her hand-to-hand." But then, he continued to think a bit more on that while he was silent. Originally, when he asked his question, he was thinking that she could be the manual labor to an architect. Lift the materials, screwing the pieces together without having to use tools. That sort of thing.
But what she said about distraction brought her ability into a new light. She could be taught how to fight, and actually help in the defense against rogues who were bold enough to attempt to conquer the small pride lands. Until she was taught properly, and he didn't have to worry about her breaking her thumbs while throwing a punch, maybe she would be equal to the fighters of the pride. Maybe. Because males are significantly stronger than females.
Then again, the women bear children. And that's painful. Especially when the pride didn't have the modern technology and medicine like the humans had. And the females are willing to get back up after birthing (on average) one child or three cubs - if they were in their shifted form when they got pregnant - and continue on with their jobs.
She'd be talented in both jobs. Yet, and he may be just overthinking her words, she might want to be with the fighters instead of helping build into the pride lands. She wouldn't have used the example if she didn't. Leo didn't see why not. "All right, I have two options."
He turned the chair, and moved to face her full-on. He scooted closer, and put his forearms on the desk before leaning forward. "Due to the recent ... departure of Jua's son and his ... supporters, I have less people to defend the pride. With your ability, I could definitely use you in that area. On the other hand, I also have the desire to expand the pride and restore it to its former glory. Which means more builldings and such. You have the choice to be either a laborer or a fighter."

Jai stood, silently, patentiently, a patience that was slowly but surely wearing thinner and thinner the more the seconds turned into minutes, minutes who to her felt like entire eternities. She always felt this way when waiting for a response, now so more than ever as her eyes remained glued to his chair. He was thinking, and she was thinking, maybe more than him or less so. This was, after all, what her place in the pride would be. Her, a human amongst animals, and she knew that she would have a hard time arguing away whatever position she would place her in that would not be something she was hoping for.
She had no power here. She was at the mercy and will of those around her. Very easily Leo could tell her that she was to remain behind safe walls caring and raising the children, and that would be that. Something told her he was stubborn to persuade away from a decision that he made.
Her brows perked up and she straightened herself to attention when Leo began to speak. His voice, suddenly gsrgantuan within her chest, spoke honesty, and Jailean could not help but hold back a grin when he gave her the two choices.
"Fighter," she replied with confidence in her voice and fire in her eyes almost immediatelly. "I understand the need to expand, move forwards and grow. However I've a feeling that you are in need of more fighters than you are architects and construction workers." Her mind was made up. She was glad he gave her a choice. "I know I'm not much in terms of shape and size but I can learn. Quickly. I'll train. And you've seen what I can do with.. well, pretty much any object under the right conditions." Granted, she was beginning to sound a bit cocky but she could not help herself. "Plus, it's only fair, isn't it? You guys took me away from a life that would have undoubtedly ended in me being either severely injured or dead. What better way to repay that than to help defend those people once more."
Jailean chuckled, having found herself pacing back and forth without giving it thought. She settled down and held herself to a single spot, playing with the tip of her hair over her left shoulder. "Who knows. I might turn out into an incredible bodyguard. Or a scout. Swift, silent, deadly. Relaying crucial information from behind enemy lines." She was fantasizing, exaggerating, yet she still fely excited. "Whaddaya say?"

Leo took great pleasure in making Jailean metaphorically sweat. It was like letting prey know that they were going to die right after he cornered it. Only ... it was much more fun. The human that was so eager to blend into the pride. Even going so far as to demand a place among the people instead of desiring to play the part as guest-that-never-left. She didn't seem to be afraid of the man, but his ability to control her until she decided she couldn't take orders anymore.
It called to his beast.
The ... tone of her response to her amused him. Most definitely half the pride wouldn't like his offer that he gave, nor would they like her decision. But he wasn't one to want approval. Besides, she would be a wonderful asset. Her eagerness to fight for the people that took her in - accepted her more than they had of him - was a refresher, and Lord knows they needed her spunk when it came down to rogue raids. It seemed to be happening more often. The rogues that wanted land are fierce, erratic, and sometimes just plain idiots. With Jailean those rogues wouldn't think twice about running from the people who was tired of their crap. At least, for a while.
"Although as much as your enthusiasm is appreciated," Leo said with a chuckle, "you would be our ... secret weapon. Maybe our last resort. There aren't very many humans out there that can do what you do, I assume. Nearly every shifter would be either afraid of you or want you for their personal goals." And the more that he talked, the more his thoughts became doubts. He was starting to think that she would have been better off just being a construction worker. If asked, he would have indeed blamed it on the fact that she was a woman, and a woman's place wasn't out on the battle field. Or that she didn't have the necessary training to be a fighter, and that no one had the time to teach her. Or that most definitely she could be snatched up from right under their noses.
He absolutely refused to think that his desire to change his mind was because he cared more for her than he did for his pride. Jua, how close are you to my office? he asked via the link everyone shared with each other.
Pretty close, was the quick reply. Just needed to see Dalili and Amra.
And then, a few short minutes later, Jua knocked a few hard times before opening the door at Leo's "Enter." "Yeah?" he asked. One could clearly see the bloodshot look in his eyes, and the gaunt look in his face. It was as if he hadn't eaten in a while. "Whatcha need?"
"Jailean has asked to be fighter," Leo said without preamble. "Yet she doesn't know how to fight. As the leader, it's your duty to take care of your rank." Leo's seemingly lack of care was evident, as thick as a quilt on a Savannah day. Jua's fist tightened before it loosened. "Whether you want to train the new member of the rank or drop her off with one of the senior warriors is totally up to you. But I will see you all at breakfast. Which is in ..." he jiggled the mouse connected to the computer on his desk in order to wake it up. He squinted at the small digital clock on the lower right hand corner of the monitor, then made a noise of acknowledgement. "Thirty minutes. Hopefully when I eat I won't get interrupted by a challenge for my title."
"All right then," Jua answered gruffly, before walking out. "Let's go, Jai."

He was right, though she did her best not to show it through her eyes just as she did not say anything with her words. For a brief second she flickered through a few different thoughts. For one, she found it amusing that shifters, people whom it should be she who should be afraid of, may just be afraid of her because of what she is capable of doing. Yes, people would be afraid of her, some more than others. What she was and what she did was the unknown. Just as these people, she thought to herself, who were capable of transforming into animals. Lions, and as she had come to learn, wolves and foxes and eagles, all sorts of beasts that at one point it seemed as if the options were endless. She was like them in the form that she fell into that category of the unknown.
However he also was right with people wanting her for their own aims. How easily she could picture the past, remember those fine details her brain struggled with to forget, so many little hints of things that should not have been. A prized possession, a means to a higher calling that she cared naught. No - she wanted to fight, that much she knew. No more helpless damsel in distress. Not only did Jailean feel indebted to this family, she felt like she had a place that was finally not trying her best to exploit her.
Hell, if it came to that, Jai could go as far as to say that it would have been on her own free will.
Some would call her foolish to have formed such a strong bond with a group of strangers so quickly, and she knew that they would be in their right to say such things. Perhaps it was foolish, but what other choice did she have as well? Was she to flat out refuse an offer of safety she had been seeking for the greater portion of her life? Was she to get up and walk away from the people that extended a hand when they did not have to? She suffered the thought of that... the thought of abandoning them as she had been done to before. No, she wasn't one to do that. She owed them. She wanted to help them. Be somebody for once, and the only person that would let her reach some sort of potential would be Leo.
Leo, a leader by what right she did not know, but a leader nonetheless.
Although... Looking back at Jua, and then at Leo at the remark he made, rather coldly, she thought to herself, then back at Jua as he called to her, she could not help but feel like there were missing dots in this puzzle. A point here and a section there, things out of place, and better left untouched. Jailean stepped out, closing the door to Leo's office behind her, yet not before glancing backwards into the room, at Leo, mouthing a silent "thank you" with her lips as the door came to a silent clasp.
"Jua," she began, but stopped for a split second as she followed, not at his heels but close at hand, "I hope I do well. I've never really fought but it's... well, I've given it more thought than most others would. I know I probably don't look like much but I'll do my best. For you guys."

"Hmm."
The response to his name was uttered with so much detatchment one would believe he was programmed to say it. In many ways, he did indeed become a robot. He didn't eat. Didn't sleep. His emotions were on lockdown. He threw himself into being the best Lead Warrior that he could be for his pride. Really, that was all he had to live for now. His son was gone. And so was his mate. No, he didn't blame Leo by any means, and that is why he still stayed with the pride. He saw how Leo had gone soft with Harrison. But barely anyone else did.
And because of his decision he was afraid that he'd never see his family again.
At Jailean's words he stopped a bit, shocked. He knew that she had yet been allowed access to the pride's link, because then she'd be able to hear what the pride members had to say about Leo's decision and Amra's allowing to have a human - one with an extraordinary ability that could kill them all, no less - be amongst them. Humans had barely any sense of loyalty, they said (though the ones that did had a deep connection to their animal brethren). Jailean had yet to prove herself to this pride, and they weren't too sure if she'd go and rat on them.
To hear her have the desire to do her best for the people that were supposed to be her family now completely erased all of Jua's doubts about Leo's decisions. At least, when it came to Jailean. For the first time in a while, Jua smiled a bit. Just a little tilt of his lips on one side. "I'm sure you'll do a fine job. Though what I'm not sure of is if I can be the teacher you need."
After a few moments, he went on to assess what she wore. Jeans. Sandals. A green top. It wasn't that he was checking her out by any means. Oh no, the woman he had goggly eyes for left with Harrison and the other people that influenced his thinking. He scrutinized her choice of attire simply because it was rather ... unorthodox to wear such things to the training ground. "As an after thought if you want to start your training today, you might want to change into something you won't sweat too much in. I'm sure one of the girls has something for you to wear if you don't."
