Jewel only - Happens after Wheelchair unbound and before Family Drama Lena knew that she was in for well something when a huge bat swooped into her office through the open window, letting in what cool breeze it could. She sighed as she stared at the huge bat on the table, knowing full well who he was. "Hello Balthazar, what does she want?" Lena sighed at the Bat. He was called Balthazar, one of the 'pets' the Swamp Witch kept around her. Because the Guild was so far away from the Swamp, the Witch normally sent the Bat to deliver messages to them and so Balthazar had become a regular person in her Guild. Balthazar extended his leg, where a small wrapped up piece of parchment lay, and Lena took it from him. He crooked his head at Lena, asking for payment and she sighed. She opened a draw in her massive oak desk and pulled out a sealed box, she opened it, her breath held in her throat and handed Balthazar a dead mouse. She quickly sealed the box and let the bat have his food. Lena scrolled out the letter and sighed as she stared at it. She then went to the intercom and called Kenneth and...she sighed when she said the next name, Drogo, to her office and then Thea. She couldn't ask Thea to come with her. She had enough to deal with here and all three heads of this place could not leave. Lena scanned the letter and read it again. LenaCome to the Swamp - URGENT! NOW! SWLena didn't need to guess who it was from, Balthazar gave it away. Lena picked up a small piece of paper and wrote. SWComingLenaShe tied the note to the bat and he swooped off. Lena sighed at the note. 'What could she possibly need?' She thought to herself as her office door opened and Kenneth strode in.
"What is it?"
"I'll explain when Thea and Drogo get here." Lena sighed as she waited, clutching the letter in her hands.

Thea and Drogo were always getting into it when they saw each other. Whether it was something menial they were bickering over or something huge that they were punching each other for, they were the "married couple that somehow wasn't able to get a divorce" of the Guild. It was probably because they were so much like each other, some people would guess. And if that was so Thea was appalled that she acted like this egotistical brute. If standing in front of a mirrored image of herself she would punch it in the face.
So when they walked in through the door of Lena's office, Thea was not in a very good mood.
"This a**hole thinks I did something wrong - again," she said angrily. The "again" part could either mean that she did indeed do another wrong thing, or this wasn't the first time he guessed that this was why all three of them were called into her office. "If it was because of the broken table at the restaurant, let me just say that it was the dude's fault. He's lucky it wasn't his face."
"Oh, so the truth comes out." Drogo gave a wolfish grin, but ducked when Thea pivoted on her foot to face him.
"You're lucky I don't mar that face of yours," she hissed, narrowing her eyes. "Shut up before I change my mind."

Lena couldn't help but pinch the bridge of her nose. She was getting seriously sick of these two fighting and really she was the one taking the brunt of it. She cared for both of them, though would only admit she cared for Thea.
Lena had enough on her plate today that she didn't need this. She groaned at them and stood up.
"What dude?" Kenneth asked.
"Stop it. I don't have time for this today." Lena ordered them both. "Now, I have had a letter from the Swamp witch and she needs to see me. Now I'm not sure on my feet so Kenneth, you'll be coming with me and...Drogo, so will you." Lena paused and turned to look at Thea. "I'm leaving you in charge Thea." Lena said.
Lena stepped out from behind the desk, her new legs still unsure under her sometimes, and sighed.
"Drogo, get the hummer sorted with food and drink. Kenneth, get some clothes for all three of us and I'll get some weapons just in case." Lena ordered. "Go, I need to talk to Thea." Kenneth nodded and walked out the door, not looking at Thea as he did. Lena turned to Thea.
"Nothing major should crop up in the next 2-3 days. I'll let you know if we'll be gone longer than 3 days. I've left some assignments on my desk that you'll need to give out and other than that just make sure the place stays standing. Any people that come in off the streets for help, just take down their details and I'll deal with it when i get home. Don't buy anything while I'm away and no personal vendettas. No breaking anything or firing anyone. If something comes along that I haven't covered call me." Lena said. "You'll do fine." Lena hugged her cousin and then left to go to the armoury. She picked up 3 guns and 3 daggers with ammo before going to the garage to meet up with the boys.

She picked up 3 guns and 3 daggers with ammo before going to the garage to meet up with the boys.
Thea waved her hand in a dismissive gesture, as if waving Kenneth's question away. And thankfully, Lena interrupted them before he could insist on asking. Her hands rested on her hips, her lips in a confused frown. "Who?" she asked –
At the same time Drogo did. Their in-sync question had them glaring at each other before looking back at Lena. Thea's irritation grew deeper, and to add to it was a feeling of indignation. "Why do I have to stay behind?" she asked hotly, before sighing at Lena's answer. "Nice idea leaving me in charge." Then she shook her head and glared at Drogo, who had the biggest smile on his face.
She was too busy with willing Drogo's sudden combustion to feel the pain of Kenneth's dismissal of her.
Thea, through her irritated haze, mentally jotted down everything Lena had for her. "No killing Westly," she commented before rolling her eyes. "No letting loose my temper or tying a noose around a particularly annoying assassin." Awkwardly, she patted Selena's back before watching her go too.
"F-M-L." She didn't understand why she had to be left behind. Why couldn't she have gone? Kenneth was more than capable of leading the Guild. Or, heck, one of the leaders could be Selena for a day. Lupita could, too.
Considering their mutual hatred for one another that would be a bad idea.
Well, she thought, at least I could have more room to look for Penny and X.

Kenneth left the office and headed to a closer on this floor to grab a suitcase. He then placed it on Lena's bed and packed 3 days worth of clothes for her. He then went into his bedroom and slung 3 days worth of clothes for himself in the suitcase. Finally he went into Drogo's room and packed him some clothes. Once zipped he headed down to the garage and met up with Lena.
"Here." Lena said as she handed him a Gun, some ammo and a dagger before they both walked over to the hummer. Kenneth slung the suitcase in the trunk and Lena grabbed the keys.
"Food and drink all sorted?" She asked Drogo as she opened the driver's side door. Kenneth went over to the passenger side. "Let's get going." Lena ordered them both as she got in and started up the hummer.

"Yes," Drogo said immediately. Then he saluted in an ornery way that made fun of his snap in doing whatever Selena said. Of course, one would say that he was whipped. But who could blame him? Selena was his one and only. And he would do whatever it took for her to see it. Even if it was doing whatever she said as his boss before her lover.
"Cooler of drinks, as well as sandwich meats and all the usual things one eats here. I packed a lot, even for three days. I could eat twice as much as Kenneth."
At the sight of Kenneth jumping in the passenger seat, Drogo huffed in indignation. "Why do I have the back seat?" Even as he asked, he opened the back door and slid in. With his long legs, he didn't like the lack of leg room. And so he glared for a few moments at Kenneth's head. Not to mention he wanted to sit beside Selena.
Last time he checked, Kenneth had a mate. And Selena did too. It certainly wasn't each other. He didn't say anything about the unfairness, though. Instead he leaned against the door and propped his feet up casually onto the seats beside him. "Where is it that we are going again?"

Lena bit back a laugh at Drogo's huffiness. Kenneth always Rode shot gun because he was her second. Lena turned on the radio, backed the hummer out of the garage and waved as drove out of the compound.
"Because, dear mate, Kenneth is my second and that's the way it's always been." Lena said as she got past the second gate and floored it down the winding dirt road. She could have been a rally driver with her skills. She turned the 80 mile per hour car and skidded around corners. "To an old friend. She helped dad once and she's Kenneth's cousin. She's a witch so no smart mouthing, she'll curse IT off before you can get the last word out." Lena warned.
Lena slowed at the Town centre nearest the Guild, which was so small it only had about 200 people. She drove through the town and then floored it to the main road. At the main road she headed east, merging on to the highway and driving really fast with radio music blasting through the speakers. She stayed on the highway for about 8 hours, stopping every 4 for loos and some gas. She then took the hummer off the highway and through a few cities and then into small towns before turning onto a small dirt road that had more land than road. She kept it slow as they drove up and down the hilled road. By this time they had been on the road for 10 hours and Lena felt it. She was tired. She drove over the last hill and parked up next to the dock on the swamp. There was a small white boat waiting for them. She got out and walked along the creaky old dock to the boat.
"OK, bring the cooler and the suitcase." Lena called to the boys. She got into the boat, carefully as it rocked a little. Kenneth pulled the suitcase out of the hummer and handed it to Lena, who placed it down beside her, before getting in himself. As soon as Drogo would get in, Lena would tug the cord hanging in the water 3 times in short bursts and it would float along by itself. The boat was bewitched.

Drogo "humph"ed, understanding her stance yet not liking it one bit. It was plain to see that he was a jealous man, and Selena's recognition of their relationship did little to ease his worries.
At the mention of a witch, he perked up a bit. Why, he wondered? Why are they going to see a witch? Rarely ever was it a good thing when a witch sought someone out. From then on, he was wary.
Though not wary enough to keep him awake. He slept through most of the journey, only awake to offer to take the wheel. But Selena didn't take them. He was wide awake by the time they got to their destination. He didn't like the boat ride, or the bugs that swarmed them. He took a can of soda from the cooler and popped the lid. A drink later, he sat with his elbows on his knees, his can nestled against steepled fingers.
"I hope that this will be quick."
***
Thea, to be honest, was nervous.
Having called everyone not on a mission into the ballroom, she stood with her arms hanging at her sides on the stage. Her presence commanded attention. But inside, she was a ball of nerves. Half these people didn't respect her. The other half was either indifferent or liked her. Elaine adored her. But then again, she adores everyone.
She found her, a white-and-spotted cat in the midst of her human counterparts. It was amusing to see her stand on her hind legs and wave her paw in her way of saying bellow. Despite the smile, she didn't say anything. Instead, she waited until everyone was in here until she opened her mouth.

The boat docked against another rickety dock and Selena got out. This dock was attached to a wooden platform with a house on it. It wasn't moving or swaying with the river. The house had cracked paint on the outside, weather worn wood and a crooked chimney. It had a cracked and slightly chipped red from door. The windows had their dusty, dirty curtains pulled together. There was smoke lightly billowing from the crooked chimney. The air smelt of mossy water, burnt wood and dirt.
"Let's go." Lena said as she went over to the door and knocked. The door slowly creaked open and then opened wider to reveal the Swamp witch, her dark eyes scrutinishing her. Her long red hair was down to her waist. She was in a long, gothic, black dress with flowing sleeves. Her pentagram necklace lay snuggled between her breasts. Her pale skin twinkled in the sunlight.
"I see you've finally made it." The Witch reprimanded them. She had been waiting a while and she didn't like waiting.
"I drove as fast as I could!"
"Just get in." She ordered and she walked back into the house. Lena followed and Kenneth followed her, dragging in the suitcase.
The inside of the house was nicer. The paint wasn't cracked and chipped. The doors weren't broken. The walls were covered in shelves full of jars and books. There was a cauldron bubbling over a fire in the fireplace. There were few more rooms off to the side, but the witch did all her business in here. The cat was purring in her basket and the bat was up in the rafters. The rat wasn't to be seen.
"Why did you call us here?"
"I sensed a great evil power around the Guild'so territory. I had to know what it is." It was then that the Witch took in Lena's appearance. "Where is your Wheelchair?"
"Thea took me to a friend of hers and he fixed me."
"With magic?"
"Yes." The Witch glided towards Lena and grabbed her hand. She closed her eyes and when she opened them, her eyes were narrowed.
"Dark magic! You're not safe. I need to think." The witch walked away and paced, thinking as she did.
"What do you mean I'm not safe?"
The witch continued to just pace and then she stopped. She sighed and turned to look at Lena. She went over to the cauldron and poured in a few jars worth of liquids till it turned purple. The witch filled 2 glasses and handed one to Lena.
"What is this?" Lena asked.
"Just drink it if you want to live."
"Dramatic much?" Lena scoffed as she drank the drink. It tasted like frog, dried fruit and Moss. Lena choked and coughed. The witch drank her drink. Lena started to feel funny and her body tingled. The witch looked like she was glowing. Lena looked down at herself and she was glowing too. "What's going on?"
The witch didn’t answer, she just walked towards Lena and put her hands on Lena's head. The Witch closed her eyes and Lena felt a stabbing pain in her head. Lena screamed and the Witch held her in place. Lena felt heat in her body and a dark glow escaped her.
The witch then walked away from her and Lena crumpled to the floor. Kenneth rushed over to Lena and checked her. She had passed out.
"What did you do?" Kenneth yelled.
"Saved her and myself." The witch sighed. "She had dark magic in her. She has some of my magic in her now and she can use that magic. I saved myself by giving her some of my magic. I had too much." The Witch sat down. "The magic is settling in her. She'll sleep for 2 hours and then be okay. Place her on the sofa." The witch ordered. "I wonder who this 'friend' was." The witch muttered to herself as Kenneth placed Lena on the sofa and went over to the witch.
"I don't know but will this magic be able to keep others safe."
"Nothing as much as mine but a little, yes."
"She is going to be pissed at you."
"She'll live, that's what matters. I will not let another Warren die."

It all happened so fast. Too fast for Drogo to do anything than to shout out in warning.
He knew going to a witch wasn't a good idea. It never was. During the conversation between his mate and the witch, he was standing warily, his gaze flitting quickly from one thing to the next. The bat. The cauldron bubbling in the fireplace. The witch herself. The pristine room that they were in. He should have kept his gaze on the witch. Otherwise he would have stepped out in front of Selena. So that he would be screaming in pain instead of her.
It wasn't enough for Drogo that Kenneth went to check on her. When she was placed on the sofa he was standing over her, checking her breathing, her heartbeat, the movement underneath her eyelids. That glow ... it was a large orb of darkness. Oh, he was going to kill Thea. This wouldn't have to happen if it weren't for her friend. That friend wasn't a doctor. At the very least he was a warlock. Someone that used black magic.
His fists clenched at his sides. The fact that Selena would be okay within a few hours did little to ease his desire to throttle Thea. He stood by the sofa, a watchdog to make sure the witch didn't come at her again. "When we get back, I will find that friend." Then he shook his head, a growlo on his lips waiting to come out. "Is she a witch now?"

The Witch just shrugged the Wolf off. She was not interested in him and what he thought. She was more interested in Lena.
The witch just rolled her eyes at the Wolf and his freaking out. She could see the golden ties between Selena and the other Wolf. She could understand his concern.
"You can't take on this 'friend'. By the looks of Selena and the dark cloud, he is powerful and it would require me and/or Selena now." She said. "Selena will now be my eyes and ears."
"Of course she is, well partly. She still has her Wolf and her ability to shift she just has a little extra magic." She explained.
###
2 hours or so later
Lena fluttered her eyes open and groaned. She felt like she'd been hit by a semi truck and her head was extremely sore. She groaned as she placed a hand on her head.
"What hit me?" She grunted as she sat up. She stared around at everyone and almost jumped out of her skin. She could see colours around them. "What the fuck is going on?"
"I saved your life. I gave you some of my magic and now you'll be my eyes and ears and protect your guild." The Witch glided towards Lena and touched her shoulder. "Now let's get you used to your magic before you go." The Witch suggested.
Lena groaned at the pain in her head and the Witch sighed. She placed two fingers on Lena's head and pushed. Within seconds the headache was gone.
"What did you do?" Lena asked.
"Helped you." She scoffed. "Now come on."
Lena stood up and did as she asked. Lena and the Witch then spent the next few hours learning and controlling her magic that she was given, but didn't want. She was good with fire, wind and water, but not the best at spirit and Earth. The witch decided that Lena had learnt a lot.
"Good, enough for now." The Witch said. "Sleep tonight." She pulled out a few sleeping bags and left the fire to warm them up. "See you in the morning." She said and then went off into the house.
"How are you?" Kenneth asked.
"Exhausted." Lena sighed as she lay in the sleeping bag.
"You OK with the magic?"
"Leaves a lot of questions but we'll deal with it." Lena said. "Always do."

Drogo hated this.
The atmosphere. Watching Selena practicing the magic that was suddenly dumped on her. The complete dismissal from the witch. All of it.
The only good thing was Selena. She was a natural. Well, with most of the elements. She seemed to … glow with the magic. She was beautiful, and talented, and just seemed to go with the flow. He was proud to call her his. Even if she was reluctant to call him hers.
That night, he set his bag beside Selena's, fully intending to sleep by her. It was obvious that he wasn't in the best of moods. From finding out that Thea's friend used black magic on her cousin to the fact that they're sleeping in a swamp, he was on the brink of blowing up.
"How can you be so calm about it?" Drogo demanded, clenching his fists. "You find out that a friend of Thea contaminated you with dark magic, but you are not the least bit suspicious about who she spends her time with outside the Guild? And the witch in there gave you something that you did not ask for."

Selena stiffled a groan when Drogo came over. She was not interested in a lecture especially from someone who knew nothing on this subject.
"What can I do but accept it?" Lena scoffed as she turned to him. "Its in my system and no, I did not want this, but we play the hand we're dealt. It might come in handy." Lena sighed.
Lena sat up and glared at Drogo. "Of course I do! But if I screamed at her she'd do it anyway. I need to do research by myself. Find out who he is." Lena scoffed. "And yeah like I said, I did not want this, but I am going to make the best of it." Lena said as she lay back down and turned away from Drogo.

That growl was released from his lips when she turned away from him, and he laid down himself. It was more resigned than angry, thinking for the hundredth time that this was not fair. Of course, he shouldn't complain. It wasn't his hand to deal with. Though he couldn't help it.
What was Selena's hand was his own. It had been that way since they met. Even if Selena couldn't care less about him.
After that thought, the desire to sleep fled from him. And he was moving around at dawn, wide awake as he went to the cooler to get another soda.
*
Thea hadn't heard from them all day yesterday. To be honest she was sick with worry – for Selena and Kenneth. Drogo can go die.
She tried contacting them with her phone. But until dawn there were no notifications. So there was another option. One that she hated, but one that she was going to use if she wanted to know what was happening.
In her room, she sat on the edge of her bed. She closed her eyes, then focused on speaking to Kenneth. "Hey," she thought to him. "What's going on?"

Lena heard the growl and it angered her further. She closed her eyes and calmed herself down before slipping to sleep.
##
Kenneth had been awake during the whole fight between Lena and Drogo and he felt awkward as Hell. He lay as still as possible and then almost jumped when Thea's voice came into his head.
"Nothing much, we're all just getting ready for bed. Melinda just had a freak out about Lena walking and the magic around the Guild. We managed to calm her down and should be leaving tomorrow." Kenneth explained.
