Voss"One. Two. Three..." Zoe giggled before taking off through the tunnels, her steps light and quiet. She was looking for the perfect hiding spot. Of course, there were places she wasn't allowed to hide in. And she's worn out all of her usual hiding spots. She was too big for small spaces now. This didn't stop her from playing hide-and-seek with Sissy. "Four. Five..." Sissy said she was only going to count to fifteen. Normally, she'd always count to thirty. But Sissy thought Zoe was getting too big for hide-and-seek, and would only give her fifteen to hide. At first, Zoe was so mad at Sissy she said she hated her! But Zoe felt bad after that, and said she was sorry and that she didn't hate Sissy. She'd take the fifteen instead of thirty. "Six. Seven. Eight. Nine..." With a burst of speed, she bypassed her and Sissy's room. Raider's room. She followed the curve of the tunnel before going outside, smiling with pride. She'll hide out here! Sissy couldn't find her here! Sissy rarely ever went outside. She said it was too hot. Which was true ... Raider said that they were in a ... desert. With sand and no trees unless you walked a ways. There wasn't really any hiding spots either. Just a few crates and boulders and vehicles that Mr. Voss had. Zoe could hide under one of the vehicles. But that would be too easy for Sissy to find her. She chose a boulder, only because it was big enough to hide behind. With a giggle, she sat and waited. It felt like forever before she heard someone talking. She didn't move at first; it could be Sissy. Soon, she knew it wasn't because it sounded like a guy. "Isaac, you're such a titty baby." "It's hot as balls, man!" "Shut the f*ck up." Zoe's eyes widened at that, her hand slapping over her mouth in shock before moving quietly to her knees. Hesitantly, she peered over the top of the boulder to see who was talking. There were three guys walking over from the highway. From where Zoe sat, it looked like they were coming toward her. These guys looked mean. Well, two of them. The third one looked like he was going to melt, with how much sweat was coming from him. Zoe knew right then that she should get back inside. Zoe ducked back into her hiding spot, wondering how she was going to get back to the tunnel and closing her eyes tightly to the hot wind. She was just about to get up too, when one of the guys said, "I smell something." It wasn't a good "I smell something" like when someone smells something good like gooey cinnamon rolls. It sounded mean. Please don't let them find me. Please don't let them find me.She had her eyes closed tightly, hands folded as she repeated the mantra over and over. Because she knew that they were getting closer, and there was no way to get to the tunnel without being spotted. So when one of the guys hovered over her, she didn't know it until her hair was being pulled and she was screaming in pain. "Owie! Let go!"

Raider sat in the back of the truck as it was headed along the highway, it rattled slightly from the loose clips clanging metal against metal. He leaned on the butt of his rifle looking out the back of the truck watching the sand swirl in dust clouds, he wondered how Calypso was doing at home. He hated leaving her and the girls behind even for the shortest of moments for his time for patrol of the expanding pack territory.
They had heard of lone wolves in the area and wanted to check the border, he was starting to think that it was all a rumor. He figured the Scouters were still testing their skills at gathering information. He was running with Ivan today instead of La La he assumed she was with Evera, she was hard to tear away from the bird. The ride was seeming longer than he expected it to be, concern ate at his stomach. The feeling always came to him when he was away from her, but with the rumor of rogue's in the area made him feel worse.
He felt the truck slow down knowing that they were going to be entering the canyon he opted to jump out the back and walk. He stepped away from the vehicle as it pulled away, pausing only for a moment as if he heard something. The wind would tug whatever it was away, ignoring it; stepping towards the wall to enter through a cave entrance.

Calypso had gotten used to being in the Black Ash Pack. Sure, her pack mates weren't the friendliest of people. The caves weren't the most traditional of homes. But Voss took her in; for that, she was thankful. She felt more at homr here than she would have anywhere else. (Was it because of the animal living within her, knowing that she was surrounded by people like her?) That, and she surely would have died at the hands of Antone, Jacob's brother.
Zoe liked it here, too. Not once did she talk about her father. (A few nights ago she asked about her mother, though.) The girl didn't mind if the people she came across weren't nice - she tried to make friends with everyone - so she wasn't uncomfortable here at all. But her favorite person was definitely Raider. (Calypso wasn't going to argue, ecause he was her favorite, too.)
Just thinking about him had her grinning like a fool. When he's out doing his duties, there was an ache in her chest. Dull an uncomfortable. But she got her job done around here, and when he came back it was gone. Right now, as she counted to fifteen and started her search for Zoe, it was there, settling in as heavy as a boulder. Being used to it, she ignored it, walking slowly down the halls.
Zoe's scent wasn't hard to pick up. Even though she looked to be in her late teens, Zoe's mental age was very young. She doesn't understand the reason why Calypso found Zoe so quickly. Even with Calypso waiting ten seconds after she finished counting, Zoe was still upset with Calypso's quick search.
Halfway down the hall, she realized two things: One, Zoe was outside. Two, Raider was home.
Calypso hat already been on Zoe's trail, so how she figured out that the girl went somewhere Calypso doesn't was pretty simple. She passed the last room that this tunnel had to offer before going outside. On her right-hand side was a branch off the tunnel. That was where Raider was. The smell of mint above the gunpowder was strong, telling her that he was close. For a few moments, she paused her trip outside, wanting to see Raider before getting Zoe
Then she heard the scream.
Calypso's reaction was immediate. Her heart thundered within her chest, adrenaline puming through it and her whole body. Did Zoe come across a scorpion? Did she bust her head on a rock? Hot wind blew into her face, but she paid no heed to it as barefeet carried her lightly to the entrance of the cave Zoe came from. Thankfully, her shift was the anthro of the fastest animal on land. Picking her up and carrying her to Foxxy -
The bright sun blinded her, yet her nose was suddenly bombarded with three new scents. All unique in their own way, but all rough and had the underlying - disgusting - smell of overripe fruit. "Sissy!" Zoe called to her. "Watch out!"
Calypso barely opened her eyes before her breath was knocked out of her. Someone body slammed her, lifting her with ease as she "Oomphed". "Keep that mouth o' hers shut!" a raspy voice demanded. Judging from the rumble of the man's back she felt against her chest, it was him that spoke.
Anger bloomed from her stomach, spreading through her veins like molten hot lava. Rarely did she shift, but instinct told her she should this time, in order to protect the one she considered her cub and the place she called her home. Her arms wrapped around the man's stomach, iron-like while she heard her bones snap and enlarge. There was some pressure on her left ring finger, due to her ring as it tried to stay on. Thoguh nothing was more important than defending what was hers.
Her clothes ripped at the seams. She grew in height, nearly seven feet tall, with spots engulfing her arms and legs. As she had felt herself morph, she recalled the curse words the man said. "She's like us!" he got out before he yelled in pain at the bite she gave himl Blood spurted in her mouth. Barely suppressing her human urge to gag, she gained more purchase in the loose grave, before standing straight up and lifting the man that dared wish her and Zoe harm. Her balance wobbled; with a slight stance shift, she regained it before slamming the man down awkwardly in front of her.
Raider, Calypso said through the pack link. Zoe and I are in trouble.

Raider let out a deep sigh as the heat beat down on him making his scruffy face itched slightly as the dust from the sand landed on him. His hand would pull out a forest green handkerchief before dabbing his forehead and wiping his face, his eyes scanned the heated ground as it waved. He stopped when he heard a screamed his human's ears twitched slightly; not long after hearing Calypso over the link. He narrowed his eyes as he tied the handkerchief over his mouth so he could run without breathing the sand. Carrying another of his weapons an AK-9 with a silencer, hunching down as he moved along the rocks hearing the commotion not far off as the wind shifted it became louder. He would set the gun against a rock and crouch pulling his clothes off slowly shoving them in the sand behind the rock so if the wind shifted again it would cause a decoy.
He would move naked to the next rock before hunching down as he bites down hard as the change moved his human skin. It split shedding like snakeskin before the brilliant fur sprung free of its confinement, His canine's grew he had let himself go trying for silence when shifting. He had not cried out but it had made him feel light-headed as he had held his breath the whole time. Letting out a breath as the rock barely kept his form hidden, he would peak his head around the boulder. capturing the scene in his mind he knew that one of the men were handled by Calypso. As much as his body said she was the one that needed his help he moved in a swift push of his paws and clawed hands as he moved. His objective was to reach Zoe for Calypso, he had known that she was seeking her like she was her cub. He stood up letting out a loud growl as he shoved the drenched man aside as hard as he could, " The end is here for you?" He snarled loudly as he reached out of the man grabbing him by the neck and squeezed. He with his other hand gently shoved Zoe away as he tackled the man.
The men above the enclosed ravine shifted aiming their weapons to the air before letting out a few shots, the sound of alarms echoed like missiles where going to be hitting the base. Two vehicles minutes later swerved out of the entrance to the basin, atop one was a machine gun the other hand men standing with their assault rifles aimed at the small group. "Zoe inside!" Raider snarled. The number of people for three individuals seemed a little overkill, but raider watched carefully as he did not want them to open fire with Zoe in the middle of it.

Zoe didn’t need any more encouragement. With her head throbbing and fear causing her breath to hitch, she bolted to the shaded entrance of the tunnel. She only paused long enough to look back at Sissy, who – with her clawed hands – picked up the back of his wife beater and tossed him into the third guy.
After that, she ran crying into her and Sissy’s room.
Calypso did, indeed, toss one of the trespassers into another, growling instinctively to accentuate Raider’s proclamation. It was … difficult to say what caused her next move. More than likely it was the animalistic urge to protect what was hers. Now that she knew Zoe was safe, she should have let it be. Let Raider and the other men that popped up out of nowhere. But Calypso saw three threats to where she lived. Where her cub lived. Where the people with whom she was accustomed to lived. And the threats needed to be taken care.
Calypso, with her shift’s speed, met head-on with the rhino who was once the man she had thrown Mr. Wife Beater on. Her paws, cusped in a V-shape, kept the horn from knocking her into the air. She did go sliding twenty feet backward. The pads of her feet heated up due to the friction, but she paid no heed as she managed to move out of the way of the big animal and howled out what sounded like a war cry. The guy that Raider had by the neck did not like much that he couldn’t breathe (then again, no one should). He certainly tried to get out by wriggling, but he didn’t seem to be making much progress. He did, though, grab at Raider’s furry wrist and squeezed as hard as he could. I’m gonna die today, he thought. At this point, he really didn’t care.
Did he?

The guns men would open fire once Zoe was out of sight, Raider had dropped the guy he had been choking out. " Calypso get out of the way!" He shouted watching her deal with the intruder as if he was all that stood between her and her world. The truck-mounted Fifty Cal had the man's muscles jerking as he held tightly to the weapon bullets ripping across the ground. He wasn't worried about the men they had been fighting, he wanted Calpyso out the way his legs felt like lead like he was running in a dream and going nowhere.
His form's heart was pounding loudly as both vehicles opened fire, he had to come to a stop behind one of the boulders as the gunfire ripped past. He was not very happy with how things were playing around right now, that they didn't give any order to move they just started shooting. The heat from the day and rapid-fire had the barrel of the gun overheating quickly, as the man yelled hitting the before he started to pour water over the barrel like a dumb shit. Raider knew La La would be pissed if her new toys were damaged in any way, she had personally asked for them from Voss.

Calypso jerked her head, breathing deeply the scent of gunpowder and rage that came from her. At first, Raider’s words didn’t register with her. It wasn’t until she heard the gunfire. Fear washed the heat of her rage with cold ice, her ears pinning flat against her head as she crouched down to all fours. This gave ample room for the gunmen to hit the rhino. Calypso didn’t care then about the intruders. She cared only for survival.
Kicking up rocks as she went, she sped to the entrance of the tunnel. Adrenaline was what kept her going after she hit the entrance, stopping only when she saw the doorway into her and Zoe’s room in the peripheral of her vision. But she couldn’t stop on a dime. No, she had to skid about fifteen feet before she felt the wind stop beating against her furred face. The tear tracts of the cheetah glistened, as if she had been crying. Her nostrils flared with every breath she took in and out. It was then, as she slowed her heart down, that she felt it.
Them.
The bullets.
She choked out a sound of pain, shifting involuntarily back as the animal within her retreated to the recesses of her mind. Calypso was still on her hands and knees. The golden band around her ring finger dropped to the ground, bent and warped, and with it droplets of scarlet red blood. With her fear fleeing, pain took its place, making her whimper and lean against the wall of the tunnel. She closed her eyes and pushed her hair back with one hand. It was only a few moments until the searing heat eased into warmth like an August day at high noon to what she thought of as Raider’s body wrapping around her. Calypso tried not to think of anything other than that as her unnatural healing processed stitched her body back together, pushing the bullets out one by one until all seven plopped down behind her.
She didn’t know how long she sat there, breathing heavily, trying her best to cover herself. But she couldn’t move much. Partly because the adrenaline she felt was gone. And partly because the warmth she had felt was gone. But she was cold now, and sore, but she felt relieved all the same.

Raider would growl seeing the bullets cut across the rhino, his muzzle showing his teeth as he snarled moving from out behind the boulder. He would move to the Rhino grabbing his horn trying to turn his neck to snap it. The men on the gun jumped down to move and finish off the other two, Raider would shove one of them coming down to his face. They stared at each other for a long moment, before he snapped his jaws at the unshifted shifter.
" You do that again I will snap you like a twig. "
shoving him he would move towards the tunnel paws crushing the dried ground, his eyes followed the blood that came from her wounds. Crouching down he watched her seeing the bullets laying on the floor, it gave him a little lead way to relax. He would reach out gently with his large clawed hand, his fingers gently rubbing against the fur along her ear. His eyes seemed still overly concerned but he said nothing as he watched her. He would try and move closer to her being slow about it not knowing her mindset might be at the moment.
