(( Jewel)) It was quite easy to sneak out of her home. Of course, having a pair of wings helped and knowing that her father and mother were deep sleepers once the young ones were fast asleep just made it all the more easier. It wasn't that late. Harley stared at her phone which showed just a little after two in the morning. She made sure to turn her tracker off just in case her daddy decided to track her ass and ruin her birthday gift to herself and then decided to turn her phone off as well. Hearing her mommy's voicemails would certainly get Harley to cave in and return back to the house. She was eighteen now. She wanted to experience a little bit more of the world. She bit her lip, knowing the alternative motive that she had. Harley moved along the sidewalk, walking easily on the three inch stilettos despite not really wearing heels up till now. It reminded her of walking tip-toe on branches whilst trying not to make any noise. Maybe that was why her footsteps were silent compared to the clickery-clack of the women next to her. She waited in line, feeling a little intimidated by the load of pretty women around her. Her nose wrinkled at the various smells, from natural scents to perfumes and colognes as well as alcohol and other fowl scents. They were pretty. Harley thought silently, with their hair done and their faces full of makeup. She looked down at herself, saw the pretty black and golden heels and her bare long legs. She stared at the mid-thigh skirt she wore, it was black with a thin hem of gold and blue embroidery. She knew she wore a matching underwear with it. Not that anyone would see it but herself, but it was cute. With a simple dark blue tank top and a face lacking in makeup, she was not as pretty as the others. Harley knew this but it didn't deter her from waiting in line. It took a little long, with no phone or friends, Harley was stuck with watching everything until she showed the bouncer her card, got herself stamped, and then she was inside the club. She liked music and she couldn't drink here, so naturally Harley found herself on the dance floor. It was...exhilarating in a way. To just let herself go and blend into the swarm of people and become nobody. Her body found the music and she danced. Enjoying this experience. It lasted for a few songs until people kept bumping into her. Intentionally or by mistake. The rub of someone else, made her think about the motive of this stunt. She raised her hands, running her hands up across her body until she lifted up her straight hair, baring her neck for the person behind her and feeling herself be enveloped from behind. It felt wrong. The scent wasn't the one she craved for but she leaned into it either way, closing her eyes and letting her hair drape towards the side. She felt the broad length of the man behind her, knew it to be lacking but was delighted all the same to know someone found her to be desirable. Fingers touched her hips, digits digging into the bare flesh under her shirt and forcing her body to go slower and sway to the persons movement and not her own. She rolled her eyes at that, disliking whoever it was just a bit because she didn't want to be tamed. But she let it slide, letting her body bend into him, being swayed by the force of his hand but never allowing herself to be controlled. She was allowing this man to think to control her. To dominate her. But she would end this all once the song has changed.

Ludin sat on the edge of his bed, sweat beading along his brow. His subconscious was cruel. EIther that, or the gods. Maybe the after-effects of his suffering to receive the ability to cast the runes. Of course, nightmares were a common occurrence for the archdemon. When he first had them, he didn't think they were nightmares at all. But, after the realized that his father was not worth fighting for, all of his pillaging was too horrid to look back on. Leaving his sister to the vampires riddled him with guilt for what felt like ages afterward.
Then he saw her.
Colette had been dancing, barefoot and with no music. Hardly a womanly thing to do, but the light in her eyes told of her take on that. Slowly, she went from a beautiful maiden who he was afraid to touch to the woman who had his heart, even after death. And what a gruesome death it was. Not eve his anguished cries woke him, like it did last time he relived Colette dying in his arms.
Weirdly, it was Jewel's call. "Harley's snuck out. She won't answer her phone. Will you help us look?"
Panic set in, obviously. His acceptance was immediate. Harley was a free spirit, he knew, because Colette had been one as well. The difference was that there were many more dangers in this day an age than back then.
***
Eventually, he found her.
It was almost three in the morning when he did. There was a very small line to get into the club by the time he got there. Smelling her scent above all the otherwise disgusting smells and feeling deep in his gut her presence was not far, he let the bouncer stamp his hand before walking in the loud, erratic place. On a Saturday, it was jam-packed full of people, but everyone moved out of the way for the tank-of-a-man. They moved even quicker after he caught sight of Harley.
In the arms of another man.
Blood boiled in his veins, red tinting his vision and coloring his irises. One hand went down to his beard as he chuckled darkly before he stalked to the pair. He made no move to conceal himself, despite his ability to do so. He'd like to know what his victims reactions were when they touch what rightfully belonged to a Viking.
When he was merely five inches away from Harley, his arm snaked out, fingers latching onto the male's hair before yanking upward. Eyes narrowed on the thief, he lifted his upper lip in a snarl. "Didn't your mother teach you manners? She's mine, boy. Get your hands off."

It had to be a trick of the mind, Harley thought to herself as that alluring scent wafted through her nostrils. Her eyelids trembled, wanting to flicker open and look for that man but Harley was also afraid of that breaking the spell. Or whatever it was that made her think she smelled a certain scent that filled her to her core.
It curled around her and Harley sighed audible, because it had been a while. He hadn't gotten this close to her in awhile. His scent naturally made her think of the man herself. A vision of him popped into her head and she swayed, almost feeling his warmth even from his towering body. She wanted to reach out and grab the vision in her mind. To force it to look at her. To crave her. To see her. She wanted to hear his voice-
God. Was she dreaming? She could have sworn she just did hear Ludin's voice. Even so, she didn't want to break this spell until the man behind her screamed and she registered Ludin's words. Even as her face went red, Harley snapped her eyes open and was faced with Ludin.
He was terrifying. Harley stared at the rage in his soft blue eyes that seemed more like fire in ice and at the curled lip as if any moment now and he would have to start snarling. To see that, it made butterflies explode through her belly. She was pulled into those angry eyes and saw something akin to possessiveness in them that she hadn't seen in awhile.
"Ludin." She breathed.
She felt alive now. No matter the reason. He was here. In front of her. After avoiding her slightly. She wanted to touch him just to see if he was really real.
She did. A soft tentative touch on his arm, not even caring for the man that he held. Warm flesh greeted her and Harley found herself needing air.
"What are you doing here?"

Yes, he had been avoiding Harley. It was neccessary. Just because Harley was Colette, doesn't mean it makes it right for anything to happen between them. Why? In this lifetime, Colette was descended from him as a bird-shifter named Harley. It was wrong. Horribly, wretchedly wrong. After Lynn's rescue, he should have just gone back to his pack.
Yet, he stayed. When it was apparent that Lynn wasn't going to live within his own pack, instead joining Jareth's, causing Gem and Aiden to want to stay close, Ludin told Gem, Aiden, and himself that he would stay and expand the Dark Lupis. It wasn't just that. He stayed for her. Harley, who had every right to touch another man and to be touched in return. He wasn't sure why -
No, he knew why. Ludin was more of a beast than a man. He acted on impulse, mainly. At least, when it came to his own. Grabbing the boy was definitely considered an impulsive reaction (one that would have jailed him if he'd have taken it a little further). Feeling hurt at Harley's acceptance of him was immediate. It took every ounce of common sense to not rip Harley away from him before killing the child right then.
Wait. It was the touch on his arm. How she said his name. She was his drug. She calmed him. Knowing his true name, she had unlimited control over him. He was still mad at her, of course, but he would never raise a hand against her. He would never dream of it.
He didn't anser her right away; Ludin released the human's hair to put his hands on her hips instead dislodging her from him by closing the small distance to press her chest against his. "Your mother is descended from dancing witches. I'd like to believe you know at least a little bit of Salsa."
He moved, stepping on someone's toes. Soon, he took up the position what's-his-face was forced to vacate, always keeping at least one hand on her, letting himself enjoy this small bit of paradise that was her soft skin that was exposed before pulling her shirt down as far as it could go.
No one should be seeing that much skin. Not even him.

The night wasnt supposed to be like this. It wasnt supposed to turn out so perfect. She didnt know what she did for Ludin to appear suddenly in front of her like this. After weeks of escaping from her whenever she tried to visit him and his family. Whenever she appeared in the house, she'd sense him leave from the back, disappearing even before she had a chance to catch a glimpse of him. It saddened her. It made her crave to see him and made her think a horde of things.
He was the reason she was even here. She started to think that maybe she just wasnt pretty, that maybe he picked on the little advances that she had been making and was repulsed because she was too ugly. She wanted to see if someone could desire her-if her average features could entice a man.
She got more than she was prepared for.
Her breath came out in a silent gasp at the warmth of his palm suddenly on her hips. The warmth seared through the light material and his forefinger had brushed against bare skin. She tumbled into his chest, her legs suddenly shaky now, and his voice was so close to her ear that she felt his hot breath against the tip of her ear. She stared down at his chest, hiding the deep red blush that covered her cheeks as he whispered into her.
"I dont think so," Harley mumbled into his chest, knowing that even with the loud music, he would be able to hear her. When he moved, she instinctively grabbed the bottom of his shirt and followed him, not wanting him to go. As he moved, she raised her head to stare at those deep eyes.
"Its not in my blood, but then again, daddy tells me that my biological mother was a dancer as well so maybe I do." Harley shrugged and tried not to worry about the way he hid her skin. Was it not to his liking? Did it repulse him? Harley furrowed her brows and took a step forward, bringing her body closer to his and watched him from lowered lids.
She ran a hand up from his back and laid her palm firmly against his chest, tilting her head towards the side all while looking at him with a small smile. "You lead, I'll follow." Always.
The word vibrated through her whole being and she couldnt help the giddy feeling that burst through her and made her lips stretch out into a wide grin. "Always." She mouthed the words more to herself than Ludin but secretly a part of her wanted him to know as well-that she would always follow him. In this time and the next,

Her words were a splash of cold water, shocking him right down to his very core. At first, he stood there, his hands chastely on her waist as he stared down at her. Shock dissipated, leaving something unreadable on his face. Though while his face was an impassive wall, keeping his child-like hope hidden, his hands slid down her waist to her hips.
Ludin was hyper-aware of what she was doing, then. She was purposefully trying to get closer. Despite his attempts to push her away, she was acting as if he didn't. Stubborn. Persistent. Her soul knew his, and it was trying to get back into contact with him. He thought he was damned when Colette came back as Harley, and he couldn't have her. But now he realized he was doomed to be the hated family member.
He never really bought into the whole "family is a relative term" where two people from different blood called one another brother. Who you have as family is predestined. Despite his disapproval and borderline hatred for him, Loki was still Ludin's grandfather. With Shade, he let the boy call him grandpa simply because that was what Georgina wanted. What Kierran told her she wanted.
Jewel brought Harley into their family, filling a void that she no doubt had. But Harley was not Jewel's daughter. That was all Ludin needed.
Always. Ludin saw her mouth form the word. It sent a wave of heat through his body, and the sudden image of him kissing her was so inviting that he almost captured her lips right then. But like all the other times, he withheld himself. This time, for a completely different reason.
No one needed to see such an intimate action.
"Then come with me," he said, pulling away from her just before grabbing her hand. He almost plowed through the crowd in his haste to get out of there, that one scene of kissing Harley opening a floodgate of other images that had him aching. Not even the fresh air cleared his head from these thoughts.
At his vehicle, he couldn't resist. Suddenly, he stopped. Turned to Harley. Gathered her into his arms. Kissed her. There was no warning. His hand was just under her jaw, his thumb pressing upward until he had her in the perfect spot. Then he was gone, lost in the sensation he longed for way before Harley was born. When Colette died. Now that she was here, in his arms, he was happy.
He didn't remember pressing her against his car. But he was thankful. Otherwise his legs would have given out. With one arm braced against the roof, and the other traveling down her waist, he pulled away, breathless and with a satisfied smile on his face. It was there for only a little bit as he admired her swollen lips. Then he started to think of what else those lips did and could do, and it was all he had to fumble for the door handle. "Get in before I take you right here."

Goosebumps covered her arms at the sweet slide of his hands across her body. It was too much and at the same time, not enough. Harley tried to remain nonchalant, not wanting to give away anything that would make him take his hands off of her. So warm. So right. Harley stared at him, wishing she knew everything about this man so that she could read the hidden meanings in his gaze.
She saw him move closer and Harley wanted to fill in that space. The hand on his back went lack however when he pushed away. Suddenly she was without contact with Ludin and she forgot how much she hated that. "Wha-" her protests died down when he grabbed her and a warm shot up through her arm.
Harley was smiling while following him. Her heart was full. The night had gone way better than she imagine. Even if he were to drag her back to the house, she had managed to make him look at her. To not avoid her-
Harley gasped at the feel of his lips on hers. His hands had pulled her tight into him and with each movement, Harley could feel it through the thin clothes she was wearing. But the kiss. Harley was weak to that hot mouth and had he not pushed her against his car, her legs would have given up at the first touch.
Harley was breathless when he let go. Her eyes were glazed over with desire. Her lips were swollen. Her cheeks were flushed and all she could do was look at Ludin and hold on to him. His words only made a shiver of delight run through her and Harley couldn't help but smile.
The door was opened and Harley felt herself easing in but with one look at Ludin, she couldn't resist tiptoeing upwards and tasting his lips once more. Because for whatever the reason was, she wasn't about to let him go. She wasn't going to miss out on this once in a lifetime chance. She wasn't going to regret not kissing him.
She sort of tumbled into the car because her legs were weak but when her ass hit the seat, Harley laughed and stared at the tall man next to her. She wanted to kiss him again.
"Ludin." She breathed his name out, her eyes hiding nothing of her wants, "I don't want to go home."

Ludin usually was quick to keep Harley quiet about his name. But right then, he didn't care. His name on her lips, swollen do to him, sounded like paradise. His throat closed tightly, seeing everything she showed him, knowing that those wants of hers were shown clearly on his face as well.
He knew that Jewel would freak out if he didn't take Harley home. Well, if Harley didn't get home within a few hours. His logic was wearing thin, though. Almost to total nothingness as he lost himself within that hazel gaze. When he arrived at the club, there was the only intention of returning a lost girl to her mother. Then his mindset started to change when he saw that boy's dirty hands on her. The final stages of that change occured when Harley revealed that Jewel wasn't her mother.
Now, here he was, leaning against the frame of the car, a craving eating away at his insides that could only be sated by her. Ludin didn't intend to take Harley to Jewel's house. No. He was going to take her home. To his home. The home that he was going to make theirs very soon. "I was not planning on it," he said firmly, after clearing his throat. Then he shut the door, pulled out his phone, then dialed his granddaughter.
The conversation lasted about three minutes. She had picked up on the first ring, as if she was waiting for him - anyone - to call her. Ludin was sensible enough, he assured himself, to tell Jewel where Harley had been and that he was going to take Harley home. Just not tonight. After all, Nate and Jewel needed to calm down before they said things they'd regret. And Harley cannot stand straight, let alone walk.
His tone of voice was strong and sure. It gave away no hint that he just had a flash of a fantasy sear his mind before hitting the dial button on his phone. As soon as he hung up, he was satisfied with himself. Successfully, Ludin reassured Jewel that Harley was safe without giving away his true emotions. Any other time, he would feel ashamed for decieving his little miting. But right then, he didn't care.
For one night, he had Harley all to himself.
***
He parked his car in his gravel driveway, barely shutting it off before capturing her lips with his own once more. He seemed to have forgotten how sweet she tasted. Like honey and wild berries that grew along the Dark Lupis territory. A low moan escaped him, and he let his tongue slide across her bottom lip in a tantalizing way. It wasn't asking for entrance, instead promising for what was to come.
Reluctantly, he pulled back, readjusting his pants before stepping out of his car door. Ludin didn't tell her to get out. Only moved to the other side of the car, his gait slow and predatorial. If she does not get out now, I will rip the door off myself, he said. And it was as if she heard him. Either that, or he didn't remember what exactly happened when she first got out. His mind was wholly focused on Harley. How he now had her sitting on the hood of the vehicle, his hands on her hips while her legs were around his waist. His mouth travelled from her lips to her cheekbone, then down her face until he came across the delicate, warm spot where her neck met her shoulder.
The urge to mark her was so strong, it was all he could do not to act on that primal urge. It was too soon. Jewel would know. And she would never permit him to see Harley again. Through the red haze of desire, he knew that it would cause a war neither pack needed. So he held off. Just barely.
And then, he lifted his gaze, disengaging himself from the hold she had on him before stepping away. "Follow me."

She shouldn't be thinking this. Harley told herself as she sagged against the leather seat, her heart hammering against her chest and her eyes full of the man crowding the side of the door. She shouldn't be thinking of all the things she wanted to do to this man. Of how strong his body was. How possessive his eyes were. How every fiber of his body was focused solely of her.
She shouldn't be thinking how lucky she was for having this powerful man all to herself. Oh. There was no question about it. Ludin was hers. She would never let him run away from her now. Now that he finally was looking at her the way she had always been looking at him.
She shouldn't be thinking that he was so close. That all Harley had to do was curl herself upwards and warp her arm around his broad thigh. Press her body against his and arch her face towards those wild eyes.
She shouldn't be thinking of how'd he tasted. Everywhere.
A shot of electricity flew through her body and left a pang in her core at his words. This was too much, Harley felt hot and her body sagged more into the car. It was all she could do to tug on the seatbelt until it found its destination. Her eyes unable to leave from Ludin's. She watched him. Watched as the control slipped into his voice even when his body looked wild as it was focused on her. She watched his eyes. Of everything that was promised and his feelings he always hid. She watched him because she couldn't even think of anything but him. Didn't need anything but him. Because he was her world and because he was staring at her like she was his.
Dear lord.
~ ~ ~
The car ride was quiet. There was nothing said between them. There was no music. There was nothing and yet, there was everything. The intensity was so thick that even though Ludin was keeping his eyes on the road, she could feel his eyes everywhere. The cool ac did practically nothing to cool down her heated skin. And she couldn't seem to breathe normally. It was the most amazing feeling.
His lips on hers. Her body went weak the second she saw him turning to her. Weak at the knowledge that she was the one Ludin wanted the moment his responsibility ended for driving a vehicle. Weak at the hunger that was poured into the kiss as well as possessiveness. Harley trembled at the sound of his groan. Unable to do nothing but accept his demanding kiss.
A soft sound escaped her throat at the seductive slide of his tongue. Embarrassment silently made her cheeks go deep red even as a yearning began to cry out. That yearning grew worst the millisecond his lips left hers and it was like she lost her source of oxygen.
Harley's eyes casted downward and she watched as he readjusted himself. The blush bloomed to her ears even as a lazy satisfaction settled in her stomach. Her fingers clicked the seat belt, her eyes on Ludin as he prowled around the car, her body finally easing from the leather seat. The hunger called. Harley answered.
She was in his arms. It felt so right. She shivered. Her skin coming alive at every brush of his lips. Her legs curled around him, because she needed to be as close to him as possible. Needed his warmth. His scent. His body.
"Ludin." It was a plea. Her body vibrated against him. Her head tilted back, her hair brushing against them, and her neck arched against those lips. She knew she wasn't being fair. Knew that he had responsibilities. Knew that this was only just the very beginning and there was still a lot of things to be done. Yet, the urge for him to show the world that she was his was too much.
It hurt when he pushed away. When the thinly kept control won. She knew it was for the best. Yet it hurt all the same. But the pain lasted only a heartbeat as his words surrounded her.
She was amazed she could. Harley felt so weak in the knees that she thought her legs would give out from underneath her. But there she was. Pressed against the side of his back. Her fingers curled in the back of his shirt and her lips against his shoulder. Kissing him through his clothes. Following him.
"Always."
This time she said it aloud even though she had a feeling Ludin already knew.

At the same time there was a self-satisfied smirk on his face, there was also a small fit of nerves he was having.
Every step that he took toward his door, the war within him grew. The sight of her blush nearly had him puffing his chest out. His name against her lips as her neck arched deliciously to his kisses had made him seriously contemplate throwing all caution to the wind and cursing the repercussions he would have to deal with just to mark her. Now, as her kisses seared through his clothes, alighting a fire that only she could put out, that thinly-kept control tried to scream louder and louder.
What completely destroyed it was that binding word. Always.
Just like back in the club, it had done away with his senses. Hindering them all to Harley. Harley, who was Colette reborn. Otherwise, she wouldn't be throwing that word around like a battle-crazy fiend with his weapon. Ever since he had set his sights on Colette, he had known that "always" was her favorite word out of the hundreds of mortal languages, dead or alive. At first, he thought she had been absolutely insane to say it so nonchalantly. It could easily get you into unbreakable oaths faster than one could say "molasses". But it turns out, Colette never said that word unless she said it to him. As if, she didn't mind to be under oath to him. Or she knew that, when it came to him, she always made sure to keep her promises to him.
Ludin Fenrirson, I will always love you.
I will always follow you.
I will always find you in the next life.
So far, she hasn't broken those oaths. Because here she was with him.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he opened up the door, ushered her in, then closed it. Hearing the lock being fixed into place made him shudder lightly. It said to him, "She is hear. And she isn't going to leave." It was reality slapping him in the face. And this time, he enjoyed it. It had him smirking before lifting Harley up into his tight embrace and capturing her gaze with his own.
"'Always' is a binding word," he murmured huskily. And in a few moments, they were in his bedroom.
It was the room that no one was allowed in when someone visited him. Not even his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. His bedroom was sacred. The only place where he can be him. Not a descendent from the trickster god Loki. Not an alpha of the Dark Lupis Pack. Not an archdemon. Just ... him. And really, he wasn't really him, because his soul yearned for something outside these walls. Something he didn't have until just now. He believed his bedroom to be sacred. But it wasn't until Harley had passed through the doorway.
With one hand snaking up to cradle her head, the other he wrapped around her torso to keep her close, even as he laid her down on the bed. Beneath them now were animal skins. Real ones that he tanned from his hunts. A large bearskin covered the majority of the queen-sized bed and was his primary source of warmth. The second biggest was that of a cream-colored cat. The others, he couldn't care to think of as he slowly straightened his back, not once looking away from Harley. Even when he pulled one of her legs from around him.
"Why?" he whispered, before pressing his lips to the tender skin of her inner thigh. "Why are you dressed like this?" He was purposefully slow in his travel to her ankle, where he took one of those disastrous stilettos of her off her foot. And then, he repeated the process until both shoes had clattered with satisfying thump-thump-thumps to the hardwood floor.
Then, he bent forward again, hands at either side of her body as he caged her in. "I hate how that boy's hands were on you."

In the back of her head, Harley wondered if she had hit her head at the club and all of this was just another fantasy she conjured up. If it was, Harley didn't care. He was hers. She knew that now. She also knew that this was no dream. She could feel his warmth digging into her side. Could feel his eyes on her. She still remembered the rage that was unleashed in his eyes back at the club.
It was no dream. Ludin was here. She was finally whole.
Her body hummed in delight at the sudden change, her legs naturally wrapping themselves around his waist even as her arms curled around his neck. "That's fine by me."
Let it be a binding word. She wished it would be. Wished that it'll never allow her to escape this man. Never allow him to get enough of her. "I'll always want to be bound to you, Ludin." Harley whispered it into his ear, pressing her lips on the skin just below it, even as her eyes registered where he was taking her.
Her chest grew tight. She had tried so hard to get into his room. No one let her and even though every piece of her wanted to slip on in, she stopped herself each time. Because she couldn't stand the thought of Ludin hating her for entering without his permission. Seeing that he was now taking her inside, like she so desperately wanted, made tears threaten to come out.
But Harley pushed them back, not letting them ruin this moment. A little sizzle of excitement ran up her spine at feeling him lower her to the bed, her fingers sadly let go of his shoulders and instead she smoothed out of fur beneath her.
Her body trembled at everything Ludin was doing and she had to clear her voice before finding she could talk again. "I wanted to see..." she needed air. The bloody man didn't know what he was doing to her. "I-If I was pretty enough for s-someone." Harley breathed out softly, pressing her now bare feet into the fur.
She couldn't help but smile at that, hearing the territorial tone in his voice. Her fingers shyly left the fur and ran up the sides of his body until she had both hands on his neck, gently brushing his skin and beard with her thumb. "I didn't either to be honest. But it reassured me that I wasn't ugly."
Harley eased one hand into his hair, "after all, you've been ignoring me for weeks. I thought it was because I was finally not a child no longer. That you had to distance yourself from me because you didn't like what you saw. That because I'm now matured, you couldn't humor me like you did before." Harley slid her finger against his lips, watching her skin on his even while feeling his eyes hot on hers.
"I wanted it to be you." She breathed and shyly lifted her eyes from his lips to his beautiful and terrifying eyes. "I thought I was going crazy when I could smell you. When I felt your warmth. Matter of fact, I still might be going crazy." Harley smiled, "but I can feel your warmth. I can smell you." She leaned upward and brushed her lips against his for just a mere second. "I can kiss you."
She sagged into the skins, her fingers tracing the side of his face. "You're here. I'm not dreaming. If I am, don't ever wake me up."
"Don't leave me, Ludin. Not now. Not ever."

To hear that Harley dressed that way in hopes of others finding her "pretty" had Ludin highly upset.
In his eyes, she was beautiful. Was he biased? Yes, definitely. Honestly, though, (and he would tell her this straight out) his opinion was the only one that mattered. The only thing that kept him from searching for the people that knocked her self-confidence down was his desire to have her. To show her how beautiful - gorgeous she truly was, and that he would never leave her.
She was a queen. A queen whose dominion was his heart. It was once a black, cruel thing, incapable of much things until she graced him with her presence. With her, he became the man he was today. The one that understood the old adage "It was better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all". She was also the one that made him understand that one must lead with a steady hand. Together, they built an empire. She had been queen then, and not just of his heart. The steady hand. And when it was gone, that empire fell steadily into pieces. Yet she never lost her title; while the empire disappeared, his heart remained, waiting for its ruler to return and take her rightful place.
And here she was, beneath him, begging for him to never leave her. Thinking that he avoided her because he didn't think her pretty.
He couldn't verbally speak; his throat was clogged, his want - his need - of her making it so. His skin felt the heat of her fingers, his lips reacting with hers. It was like fireworks. "I will never leave you. As long as I will live, I will never leave."
***
It had been a long time since Ludin has gotten a good night's sleep. And, while it wasn't night that he slept through, and even though he only got a few hours of sleep, it had felt good.
There were no nightmares plaguing him. He felt no cold. He was held within his mate's embrace - finally, after nearly thirty years. Felt her heart beat beneath his head, fingers of one hand loosely interlocked with fingers on one of her own friends. Their legs were entwined, and half the furs on the floor. While she had his head on her chest, he made sure that he wasn't completely smothering her with his large mass. The other half of the furs wrapped around them both. Moreso her than him.
But he wouldn't have had it any other way.

Sleep had never been quiet for Harley. When she was but a babe, she would have nightmares of her mother trying to kill her. The image was fuzzy since she was only a few months old when it had happened but something like that never went away-even if she had only been a baby. After a while, the nightmares stopped of her biological mother and she entered a fantasy world while she slept, full of everything that a young child would dream about. Rainbows, unicorns, beautiful music that came down from fluffy pink and violet clouds, rivers of sparkling water that allowed her to dance upon-everything and anything.
Then her dreams started to feature those around her. Little skits of dreams that were as amazing as her reality. Then she met Ludin and her dreams started to zero in on him. But...she had bad dreams too. Of the bad guy that she met the same day as Ludin. Of Ludin saying hurtful things to her. Of her negative thoughts of never being good enough for Ludin. But they were just dreams, Harley always told herself.
It didnt surprised Harley that Ludin was in her dreams again tonight. After all, how could she not dream of him after everything that happened in the last five hours. It was as if she couldnt get enough of him, that even though she knew she had fallen asleep cradling his head against her chest-she needed more of him. Silly. She wanted to be with him even in her sleep.
They were laughing. God, she loved the sound of his laughter. She was curled up in his side, drinking something that tasted a bit bitter but sweet on her tongue, with a fire keeping them warm in front of them. They were wrapped in one of his skins, sitting on a log, and she was listening to another one of his stories. She loved his stories-loved to hear his voice. Loved the good ones and the bad ones. Even if he didnt.
She tucked her head on his shoulder, bringing her eyes upwards to stare at him. There was something different on his face but Harley just couldnt pin-point it. He felt her gaze and he stopped the story as he stared down at her. Her breath caught in her throat as those eyes focused solely on her. Her body burned and her lips were suddenly aching. His lips parted and her name was called so softly that she could barely hear it before his head bent down and-
NO!
Harley sobbed at the sight of her lover being tortured to death by the deity. She fought against the bounds at her wrists and ankles, feeling it dig into her skin and the brief flashes of pain as it broke skin. She didnt care. Ludin was right in front of her. So close. So very close.
"Please!" She begged, sobs making her voice hoarse as she tried to reason for the man she loved. "Please stop! He's dying. Please!" Harley screamed and pleaded, trying to do everything and anything she could to help Ludin.
"Ludin..." Harley could barely see him, he was covered in his blood, his beautiful blonde hair now dirty in his own blood. "Please...I'll do anything...please...." Harley tried to touch him, tried to bring Ludin to the safety of her embramce but he was still too far away-kneeling before her just a few feet away.
"Please..." Harley sobbed before finally she saw the moment when it was too late. Ludin fell forward and even though she thought she wanted him to be in her embrace, seeing her lover fall broke her heart to a million pieces.
"No no no," Harley sobbed as Ludin lay seemingly lifeless on her lap, his blood started to seep into her skin and his body...so...so...cold.
"Ludin!" Harley screamed and was jolted awake. It was dark-as dark as the memory, and Ludin laid on her stomach. "NO!" Harley sobbed, her hands frantically trying to cup Ludin's cheeks so that she could look at him.
"No no no, Ludin! Ludin? Ludin please dont leave me. Please. Please I'll do anything. Ludin. Please. Dont die. Please." Harley couldnt even see him, couldnt even register the warmth coming from him-because all she could see was all the blood and the memory of his cold lifeless body.
"Please..." she sobbed.

He was up in an instant.
His eyes were blurry with sleep, his brain trying to decipher where he was and who he was with and what the danger was before he was fully awake. Ludin felt his heart racing, hearing cries and pleas. With superhuman speed, he lifted his head to search for the sound. "Harley?" his accented voice rugged with sleep and concern. He furrowed his brow and detached himself from her. Immediately the cold of the room hit his bare skin, making goosebumps rise. He didn't react to it; instead, he sat up, one knee separating her thighs as he pulled her into a sitting position by her armpits.
"Shh, my heart." Wrapping one arm around her back, he used his free hand to wipe away the tears that stained her face and tuck her stray hair behind her ear. "I am here. You do not need to do anything." Then, he brought her to him, his heart slowing down to its normal beat. He pressed his cheek against her head, both of his hands rubbing soothing circles on her back. "It was just a nightmare."
One thing about Ludin: he didn't really sugarcoat anything. He knew that it was a nightmare that plagued his love; dreams didn't have you waking up screaming. He knew that she was beginning to realize it, too. But with his lack of sugar, came his desire to see to every one of Harley's needs. And right now, she needed to see that it was just a trick her subconscious played on her. She needed to feel his touch. His warmth. Because whatever the trick was, it had to do with him.
He stayed like that until she stopped shaking with fear, steady as an oak. All the while, he told her sweet nothings in her ear. Some in English. A lot in the Old Language. When she was finished, and she almost pulled away from him, he kept her there in his embrace, wanting her there as much as she was needing his support. "Tell me about it," he said softly, yet in a firm manner. "What did you see?"

"P-Please." Harley hiccuped, now seeing blood all over Ludin. The bed was soaked in it, the furs sticky with it-her own body covered in it. "No...." she whined, her body shaking with uncontrollable tremors that shook her to her very core.
"Please no," she sobbed even as she heard Ludin's voice. It should have calmed her down but in her mind, it sounded like he was saying her name for the last time. "No, please baby, please no." She started to panic when he was getting pulled away from her and she felt her heart breaking- "No no noo please please no," she sobbed even as she felt herself being pulled upwards.
It took ages for his words to penetrate her. Nightmare? No. It was too real. She had always been able to distinguish reality from fantasy and this...that was reality. She clung on to him, allowing his warmth to penetrate through her sudden cold skin. Suddenly she remembered the blood. She tried pushing back from him to make sure he wasnt indeed bleeding but he kept her plastered to him.
Harley...she shuddered. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath of his scent. It surrounded her. Embraced her. Reminded her that he was alive. He was alive.
"Y-you," she licked her lips, her throat in pain from the screaming and sobbing. At the memory of the dream, tears started to form at the back of her eyes. She wrapped her arms around his middle, digging her nails into his back, keeping him here. Keeping him next to her. Keeping him safe. "You were d-dying." She got out, shakes once again taking control of her body.
"I was right there and I couldnt do anything. He wouldnt let me. You were right there. Bleeding. Dying. I couldnt even touch you-" Harley broke out in a sob, hiding her face in his neck and hugging him tightly towards her.
"You were so cold. There was so much blood. So...so cold." She suddenly pushed back, sitting on his lap, her face once again covered in tears. She wiped the tears from her face so that she could see clearly and then pressed her hands onto his bare skin. She narrowed her eyes as she watched, trying to register the fact that the skin underneath her palms were cold and clean of blood.
After a moment, she finally let go of the breath.
"You're warm. Oh Ludin, you're warm." She felt the tears coming again and this time she allowed them to fall freely, a smile now tugging at her face. Maybe she was a madwoman, she didnt care. He was warm. He was alive.
"You're alive." She breathed and fell forward, cupping his cheeks in her hands and pressing her lips to his, relief washing over her to feel warm lips instead of the cold ones she had kissed in her memory.
